NOTE: People seem to underestimate my laziness. No, I'm not willing to swap between a full Korean keyboard layout and my default layout every single time I want to ㅈㅈ. This is for those who are equally lazy. Under no circumstances do I state that this is necessary. Also, setting a Korean keyboard as your alternative will replace the default functions of á é í ó ú, which are much more commonly used than Korean letters, other than ㅈ, of course. People use their secondary keyboard language. Not everyone is free to change it to Korean. Also, any negative feedback will be added to my /care? collection.

So after watching countless numbers of GSL streams and seeing the ㅈㅈ at the end of the game, I've often thought it'd be amusing to do it myself while laddering. Moreso team games for some lulz, but I still plan on doing it in the solo ladder to let out the inner Korean in me. Obviously I wasn't interested in copying it to my clipboard every time I'm playing SC and pasting it after a loss, or some BM offensive ㅈㅈing, so I started doing some research.

After about half an hour of messing around with a few programs, I finally got one to work. Note that this isn't as simple as adding ㅈ to your current keyboard layout. In order to do this, you'll need to install the brand new keyboard language I made last night. I made it by using the British keyboard layout template and adding ㅈ to CTRL + G. What has the UK keyboard layout got that the US doesn't? I haven't got a clue. I can make a US version if people want, but I don't see any reason for this to not work.

Also keep in mind that under no circumstances is this going to permanently overwrite your current keyboard layout. You can simply swap between this and your current one whenever you want, but again, I'm confident this has everything your current keyboard should have for a majority of you. If you do have a foreign keyboard, PM me the full name of the layout and I'll try find it to add ㅈ to that one also.

Installation

No, this doesn't work on macs.

Download UK version
Download German qwertz version
Download US version

After you've downloaded, extract to wherever. Run the 'setup' file and after it's installed, there should be a keyboard icon on the bottom right of your taskbar. Click it and select 'TelikosGG' and it should now work by holding Control and pressing G.

If the keyboard isn't there, navigate to your 'Region and Language' in control panel.

Go to 'Keyboards and Languages' tab and press Change Keyboards. Scroll to 'English (United Kingdom) - TelikosGG' then there should be 2 or 3 different selections in the box below. Highlight anything that isn't TelikosGG and click remove. It should now work.

To put it back to normal, change it back from 'English (United Kingdom) - TelikosGG' to whatever it was before, or click the keyboard icon on the bottom right and revert your selection.

ㅈㅈ

EDIT: Also keep in mind, this isn't like installing brand new software or anything to your computer. It's just adding one extra to the already hundreds of various language options are in your computer. This isn't going to take up any RAM or slow down your computer etc.

Added carefully laid out and detailed graph for intense explanation.

Isn't Korean also one of the language settings that comes with Windows?

Why don't you just set Korean as an alternate keyboard in your control panel language options? Then you just press alt + ctrl (or was it alt+shift) and you're in Korean mode.

I have things on my clipboard a lot. Don't want to have to find the symbol on google every time I copy something new or run SC

Yes, but I cba changing between keyboard languages every single game.

While a valid option, I just find this less hassle after it's been installed. I've also tried changing my default keyboard language to something completely different, but as soon as I type, it autochanges back to english. Dunno if it's like this for others, but it is for me.

The default korean keyboard layout lets you type english, then you hit alt-gr (the right alt key) and are able to type in 한글. There's not really much reason to install any special programs to do it.

This isn't a program. It's just another keyboard layout customised to be the exact same as the most common keyboard layouts, only with the added ㅈ

I don't get why you wouldn't just use the default korean layout then, and just hit alt-gr, then hit ww

What if I want to type ㅎㅎor 지지? I'm not sure why you would want to do this, but I think using the Korean keyboard layout makes a lot more sense.

You don't have to swap layouts. It takes a lot more work to make your own keyboard layout than it is to just use the korean layout. Like I said in the post above, the korean layout defaults to the english qwerty, and only changes to 한글 when you hit alt-gr.

I was also rather bored at the time of creation and interested in learning new things. Creating my own keyboard language is a useful talent toi have.

I've tested this already. The second I type, it automatically changes the language back to UK.

ww doesn't mean well won - it's a common misconception. see this thread here for an explanation of why koreans type ww:

http://www.teamliquid.net/forum/viewmessage.php?topic_id=163692

basically, ww is what comes out when you mean to type ㅈㅈ but forget to switch the layout from korean to english, because they share the same key.

Hmm, I've enabled the built-in windows layout and it works fine in everything BUT starcraft, I can change the layout while in game and get a little icon in the right corner of my chatbox but the characters simply don't appear when i type them.

You mean download the entire thing again? Because simply restarting SC did aboslutely nothing. The strange thing is if I type the characters outside of the game and then just copy-paste them to the gamechat it works fine, but if I try to type them ingame after switching the layout exactly nothing happens.

Same thing with the chinese layout I have installed.

Weird. This happened to me the first time I installed it and I just closed SC and ran it again and it was working fine. Only thing I can think of to do is close SC, and swap your language back and forth, then log in again and test it.

Depends on the person. Having a required age for such an opinion would be most unusual.

Thanks, now go away

It's pretty interesting, I'll see if my keyboard's app can print 'ㅈ' using one of the 'G' keys (G1, G2, etc.), else I'll give it a try.

ㅎㅎ is when you type "gg" but you're in Korean keyboard layout. ww is the reverse of that, when you try to type ㅈㅈ but you're in English layout.

Ok this has gone far beyond wanting to troll people with 지지, now I simply want to know wth is wrong with my comp for not displaying hangul or hanzi when I type them in sc but typing them outside and copy-pasteing them in is fine.
I'll get to the bottom of this!

sometimes it takes me 3 minutes to turn on korean keyboard (ingame).

first i need to alt+ctrl to enable IME
then i need to ctrl+shift to enable korean
then i need to alt to switch from english/korean

i can't see if there on or not so if i miss one step i have to try again with different combination...

just don't BM while acting like a korean
(i don't BM, but when i do, its only against korean posers BM'ing, and i prefer dos equis)

This is possible. Go to create a new macro and command it to do the following.
Enter
Ctrl (Hold it down)
G
G
Release Ctrl
Enter

While it will appear in your Razer software as GG, when you execute the macro in game, it should come up as ㅈㅈ.

Doesn't seem to be working for me... I installed it correctly, I have it set to Telikos GG - US, and it's not showing up when I press Ctrl + G. I don't get the error sound like what you get when you try to use invalid control bindings, just nothing. Any ideas? I want to get this to work so I can feel even more lame than I already do

Heh... You really don't have to do anything special to enable the Korean character set. You right-click on the EN (or whatever language you have) in the bottom right corner then go to settings. Add -> Korean -> Microsoft IME. Then you go and make it the default language. Now, when you type on anything it will still be the English alphabet but you can hit the right alt button and it toggles between that and hangul. Hit right alt, ww, profit? ㅈㅈ.

In case anyone wants to do this on any other layout, here's the program to do it:

Microsoft Keyboard Layout Creator

Nice program for other uses too, I used it to create layout that sort of corresponds QWERTY with cyrillic letters when I was learning russian.

Plus, unless you're like me who does speak Korean to his fellow mates, you don't need to type in Korean for an entire game.

Changing keyboard layout to korean and then back to english is a pain in the ass. Sometimes I hit the keys to switch accidentally and I don't want that to happen in the middle of the game. Thanks for this because it is perfect for people that only want one layout enabled.

Ok, lets say you use those letters, why the hell would you use those letters unless you were already in that region?

Ok, EURO, say you're french, have you're default to french. alternate as korean. Are you seirously that lazy to press ALT? No, I wouldn't think that, you designed a program to do that.

No you're not lazy. You just want to show everyone you can take the hard way.

Idk if I'm overreacting here, but seriously, I'm korean, and I just get pissed off when 한글 (hangul) has to take a back seat when people clearly say they want to be like korean.

I'm all for you trying to become more korean, but don't try to make it a backseat.

한글 isn't going to kick it in the back seat like Rebecca Black.

(lol just had to say it, when I typed backseat)

Simple as that. Press alt ㅎㅎ <--- gg in korean But you have to set it to korean on Windows.

and ㅈㅈ? I just pressed alt again. HI , ㅗㅑ <-------- the letters H I in korean letters, all because I pressed alt.... simple as that lmao....

This would also replace á é í ó ú. Which are quite commonly used.

Ok, lets say you use those letters, why the hell would you use those letters unless you were already in that region?

I'm Irish. I use those letters a lot. My default is UK, my alternate is Irish.

Or you could pretend you are a korean using a korean keyboard and type "ww" like Koreans do sometimes when they forget to switch it back to Korean from English.

Well, that would make the most sense, but then he might forget if he is outside of SC2 on his computer and then he would go to hit control+v and then some random bullshit would pop up. I used to do this, but then I forgot to reset the control v thing. I was doing a history paper, had to copy and paste a URL and then when I went to gg in game, some random URL popped up. It was pretty funny for me.

Yes, but I cba changing between keyboard languages every single game.

It's not that hard...

>Hit Alt.
>W + W

>Profit!

Plus, unless you're like me who does speak Korean to his fellow mates, you don't need to type in Korean for an entire game.

When I try to use the Korean IME on my keyboard, my computer constantly swtches to normal letters and I have to press a symbol on my language bar to bring up hanja again .. so half the time i'm actually typing ww instead of ㅈㅈ

edit: fixed it

Try this. Copy one of your current profiles for your razer and open it in notepad. Replace everything in it with this. This is originally for a Cyborg R.A.T, but there's a chance the profiles still work in a similar way.

If you want to be technically correct you would want to type 지지 which pronounced in hangul is effectively gg (che che) in a more wholesome sense. The letter 지읒 which is ㅈ can be found in place of w which is why you see alot of progamers when they type ㅈㅈ it comes out as ww. The vowel ㅣ pronounce (ee) can be found on the l key. The korean layout is basically consonants on the left side and vowels on the right side of the keyboard divided at tgv/yhb keys.

Edit: Idk, if all you want to do is that it is sure hell of alot easier than making your own layout. Hell, you could learn hangul in about a day if you wanted to.

Its not a good thing, http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=Weaboo also, I would not base Starcraft as the basis of Korean culture, it is kinda like weaboos basing Japanese culture off of their anime. While such things are involved and are factors in both countries, there is much much more to those cultures and lifestyles than Starcraft/anime. For example, I am friends with two girls in my school who are both native korean and both of them think starcraft is stupid, yet acknowledge that it is a big deal in their country. Its bad to generalize.

Being Korean, I have both the English alphabet and Korean alphabet on my keyboard
Switching between languages is easy

Go to your PC settings and make sure you have the Korean alphabet installed (everyone can do it)
and to change the language, hit the "Alt" key on the right side, or "Shift" + "Alt" on the right side to change languages (depends on what Program you're using). For SCII, it's Shift + Alt I think
You can type "StarCraft" with just your left hand.

Not gg'ing is considered bm. Psychologically speaking, why would you bm someone? Bm usually points to the bm'er being insecure or overcompensating for something. Therefore, why would you want to prove to the world that you have a small dick.

Unless you lost to cheese, which in my book is bm because you don't have any skill whatsoever (exception: Foxer), just gg. It takes 1 more second than if you just quit.

I play both Korean and American servers and I'm unsure how you switch to Korean mode, but I'd imagine you're using the system tray on the bottom right of your start menu to do it.

First install the Asian keyboard layout, which is nearly identical to the OP but you're installing it within windows, not a 3rd party vendor.

All you have to do is press the right Alt button, and the keyboard will be in Hangul mode. In which case you can start typing in Hangul. Press right Alt again to enter english mode.

You can buy stickers from Amazon for about 3 dollars which you can stick on your keyboard to know which buttons are what in Hangul.

This isn't a 3rd party program. It's just another keyboard layout. This was explained in OP. As for the rest of what you said, read OP.

Create a program to be able to make a cute "GG" ... this is worst than tunning.

Can you make a program that makes the game screams "Terrible terrible damage" each time one of my baneling explods too?

This would spam too much, I'm afraid I must refuse to support such a feature. Your ideas have good potential though, so don't let this mere bump in your creativity hold you back from future success C:

You can always just change your keyboard settings. Guides: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-CA/windows-vista/Change-your-keyboard-layout

You can just press a hotkey, don't got to download anything etc. I did Korean, and can type little korean like:

ㅋㅋ: keke
ㅄ: swear 어: Yes 잘자: good night

You pick up on things too :D

meanwhile, people can just press shift + alt and get the full korean keyboard and type whatever they like, without installing some sketchy program

Okej this does not work for me. Iam using windows 7, swedish version. Just to test if i was doing soemthing wrong I added German layout and that DID work! But korean doesn't..

As you can see in the picture it says I have Korean IME active, but when i type all that comes out is normal letters.. My ÅÄÖ buttons turns into '[; though, so it seems like it is a US keyboard I got?

Why bother using any slang at all?

It's fun, and it's part of the starcraft culture. Doesn't hurt anyone at all, so let's just have fun with it!

Well, using the default microsoft east language pack thing for windows, you can just switch between korean and english like that, using alt or something, then you can type in korean then alt and then type in english, I used to do it for SC1 .

Changing it normally works perfectly for me... It seems more difficult to download the program and install all that than just changing some settings.

Not entirely sure if this is the right place for this, but I didn't feel like it warranted it's own topic:

I notice that a korean "GG" typically is"ㅈㅈ" while I thought those symbols translated to JJ? I have nearly zero experience with the korean language, so I was just wondering if anyone could point out why this is.

A full Korean gg is actually 지지, pronounced gee gee. ㅈㅈ is the lazy way I guess. If you say "j j" quickly the vowel sound is vague enough to pass for gee gee anyway.
