Dude this is soooo helpful. Thanks on behalf of the tourney holding community.
|
Can I have your babies? No I don't mean eat them. Can I bear your children? Seriously THE greatest scoreboard I have ever seen.
Edit: Are you planing to add hot keys?
|
Oh wow, apparently people like it.
|
Oh man I've been jealous of this for a while. Can't wait to start using ^^
|
|
Have to say this one is the best one I've seen thus far. Really like how it fits really well with patch 1.3, simple and sleek. Also love the fact you can add 3 lines of text on rotational timer.
|
This scoreboard is absolutely awesome. My only suggestion is that it would be much better if it were possible to re-size or scale it.
|
QuixoticO: I want to be able to customize this, where you can have however many lines you want, or 1 static line, or even none. Just something on my to-do list.
Exigaet: I've thought about this, and its possible with some reworking but some others were against it. Its up for consideration right now.
|

lol.
It is actually really good. Nicely done. Hope you can do more stuff like this in the future
|
Yeah I was impressed by this from when you intro'd it during the showmatch events. Also pretty neat you were streaming the coding, I gave you quite a few shortcuts to make everything work
I'd want to see how you implement player intros (with something smaller than the sidebar)
|
That's a very sharp looking scoreboard. I like it!
|
That's so amazing you posted this today... I was going to send you a message asking what you use and where to get the source.
|
I very briefly watched the stream today and noticed some stats flashing on the screen (i.e., worker count, supply counts) with ratio bars. Is that built into this? Where is that from?
|
justdweezil: that's part of the 1.3.0 patch for observers. built in standard, although it usually only works with blizzard maps
|
Opened it and played around for a bit; only suggestion is hot keys. The standard -F1/F2 player names -Ctrl + ZVTR for P1 races, Alt + ZVTR p2. -Ctrl 123456 for P1 colors, Alt 123456 p2.
Also a nice feature is having the program remember what races players play and automatically change it.
If those features are in and I missed it, my bad -- Very beautiful score board; major props
|
|
Nice one ascend
|
|
love the score board, anyway to make it work using multiple monitors? I find it is gigantic with my triplescreen.
|
Nicely done
I'll probably never use it (cause I don't host tournaments ) but I was always jealous on this
Now i have it
|
dude this is so awesome. just add the hotkeys ipp mentioned and it's perfect.
|
Many props. Nice to see you contributing to the community in multiple ways, I'm sure others will try to follow this example.
|
Nerski: Can you take a screenshot? Are you stretching your screen across all 3 monitors instead of treating them as 3 seperate screens? (i.e. does SC2 also stretch across all 3?)
Right now, it takes up 36% of what you have set as your "Primary monitor". If thats all 3, then that could be an issue.
|
|
That looks much nicer than the other ones, great job.

Well essentially i'm using AMD's Eyefinity, which creates a display group where you can run 3 monitors off 1 video card (2 in dvi 1 display port). Sc2 just runs off what is considered the 'main monitor', I suppose though your program could be seeing the display as stretched across all three.
Still a great open source for the community i'm sure i'm in the minority of people using something like AMD's Eyefinity.

This is sooooooooo amazing! Thank you so much Ascend!
|
Wow... amazing, thanks for posting this Ascend, just noticed it. Will play with it when I have the time.
|
|
Excellent contribution. I'll be using this for the Display games in the next Las Vegas tourney.
|
I just released a version 0.2 with a few changes.
v0.2: Scoreboard colors now animate between states Added build number to options screen. Added the ability to add announcement text over the scoreboard Added the ability to resize the scoreboard using a slider. Added the ability to hide the subbar to center the score.
Resizing is probably the most requested feature, so you can do that quickly now without breaking anything!
|
This is awesome! I was about to try to hack something like this on my own.
|
this is the shit, i hope everyone uses this !
|
Awesome overlay! Definitely using for our upcoming tournament.
Suggestions: is there a way you can have the announcement overlay scroll between several messages just as the "below score text" does?
|
wow thanks ascend, great for new casters, love it, and love the showmatch series
|
@FluX-: Definitely a possibility. I'll keep that in mind.
I need to figure out a good way to implement the same thing for the subbar text, so once I have that figured out, it's a no-brainer for the announcement overlay too.
|
Put a lot of work into it tonight, and implemented Flux's suggestion.
v0.3: User can change (or remove) announcement and subbar text. User can customize the number of messages. Announcement messages can now rotate similar to subbar text.
It's actually much nicer, I'm happy I finally got this part done. The interface for working with it is slightly nicer now as a result.
|
Awesome app - freaking awesome app. Love the design, the font, actually everything!
Idea to be built in or new app: * Interface with the sc2ranks.com API and pull info on players. This is meant for a seperate "player introduction" window which could be used when in lobby or during game loading. This of course requires input of player's battle.net name and identifier somewhere.
PS. I'm not sure exactly how Github works, but I'm currently only able to download packages for v. 0.1 and v. 0.2 (not v. 0.3)
|
@HellGreen: If you just want to use it, just grab the latest version from http://ascendtv.com/starboard
I've just put out another update, this time with 1-click race/color updating and some basic hotkeys. Sorry, no hotkeys for changing player names yet, and can't click scores to increment quite yet.
You can find a list of supported hotkeys either on the github page, or now in the original TL post.
v0.4: * Added 1-click selections for race and player color * You can now shrink the subbar and announcement sections * Setup window will auto-size to contents. * Added hotkeys for player race, color, and score.
|
Love aye Ascend <3 Now just make a Mac Version <3
~Spazzer
|
I know, I was referring to the source code. Only v. 0.2 is available from Github, if I'm not mistaking?
|
@HellGreen:
Just don't select a tag to get the latest source code. Download or fork from the master. I stopped actually tagging these incremental releases, it's not worth it until the stable 1.0
|
If you downloaded version 4, you'll probably want to update. Some nasty bugs, including the 1-click buttons just plain not working. It's got an icon now too, so it's easy to find.
v0.4.2: * Fixed the 1-click buttons not working properly.
v0.4.1: * Fixed not being able to minimize. * Added icon
|
Hey Ascend, I was using version 4 (i think?) to stream a tournament so this might have been fixed in 0.4.2
Awesome app, thanks a lot!
We had one issue that was really annoying though, is that the app doesn't stay-on-top, so whenever I alt-tabbed it dissapeared, and often I forgot to bring it back. Monitor setup is left monitor in 1280x800 with starcraft in Fullscreen-windowed mode, right monitor has xsplit + skype + a bunch of other things opened
If you fixed that, it would be sick!
Thanks from all of TeamQQ

I can take a look at it, but I'm not sure how much I can do about it. It seems to be a weird issue thing with Windows where alt-tabbing can sometimes hide top-most windows. You'll notice this also with IrfanView if you use it in top-most mode for overlays.
One way to avoid this is to just simply not alt-tab. When I'm casting, I have confine mouse set to off, specifically so I don't have to alt-tab. It also means the alt-tab menu doesn't show up on screen and you can smoothly go over to the 2nd monitor for management.

|
Ascend! This has to be the greatest scoreboard outthere, congratulations.
One thing though, even if I setup multiple announcements, they don't rotate like the subbar does. If i set two messages in the subbar for rotation every 2 seconds, it works. But when I toggle the announcement, it stays there, doesn't roate with the other announcement, and doesn't go back to the scoreboard view.
What is the intended behavior here?
Edit> Actually, nevermind. There is a bug where if you setup multiple announcements they don't rotate. A way to fix this is to exit the application and run it again.
|
probably one of the nicest looking scoreboards ive seen period
|
I love you, my old scoreboard was blocking some in game hotkeys and this one doesnt <3
|
Awesome upload man, much thanks.
Was wondering if it's possible to add some sort of coding that will allow the winner's race to be highlighted in the middle of the screen. Something like in the IPL (IGN ProLeague).
So for example, if it's a TvP and Terran wins, after the loser types GG or ragequits, maybe the caster can press like a hotkey or something that initiates the logo of the winner's race to be highlighted:
Terran Wins (Logo Underneath)
Just a random idea, either way, thanks for the effort put into this scoreboard. Will be downloading this now.
|
@`dunedain: That's actually a really good idea. I'll mark that down for a future addition. If nothing else, just some kind of winner indicator would be good.
I've just released v0.5.0. The biggest change is the ability to enable and set transparency for the scoreboard. Note that transparency has some repercussions with streaming in certain circumstances. If you run Windows 7 with Aero disabled (i.e. your start bar is NOT see-through), some capture software, such as VhScrCap and XSplit, will not capture transparent windows, meaning your stream would not see it.
Version 0.5.0 * Fixed crash when using invalid timer values. * Added the ability to enable transparency for the scoreboard. * Added the ability to customize the opacity of the scoreboard. * Scores cannot be less than 0. * Added fade-in and fade-out effects for when transparency is enabled.
|
Hey Ascend just wanted to let you know that everytime I stream and use your overlay, people always want to know where to get it. It's absolutely beautiful, I hope more and more people start using it. By far the best looking overlay in use right now, and can't believe how often you keep adding new features :-)
|
Great stuff Ascend, seen it being used in a GosuGamers stream and it looked really awsome, specially the fade of the colours :D GJ
|
To re-hash what Vincere said, we use it on almost all of our casts on GosuGamers now.. and people are always asking us about it. I've also seen it being used on a few HoN streams!
|
beautifull app Thx for sharing guys
|
Nice app Ascend but I'm having trouble with transparency on my Win7 pc. When I click on the Allow Transparency the Xsplit doesn't see it but when I un-click it then Xsplit can see it again.
|
It looks clean and nice =)
Thank you.
|
sweet deal! i bet tons of ppl will use this
|
Looks great! Thanks for sharing.
|
Size slider was a great addition, especially for someone like myself, I can actually now successfully use the board and will probably do so in a lot of my youtube casting and during events headed up by VPGamers.
much appreciated chagnes ascend.
|
Hey, I love the transparency option. Could you add an option to keep the font white? I don't want that turning transparent

I'm wondering if I use it for my stream but like not have it being shown on my screen but shown on the stream. Is that possible? Like I have a dual monitor and can adjust the scores on my other monitor but like when I'm playing, I prefer to not see that scoreboard up top.
|
Amazing, I think more layouts would be really cool though as that way it wouldn't always look the same ^^

If using XSplit, move the scoreboard to your 2nd monitor, and simply display that screen region where the scoreboard would normally be.
If not using XSplit... no.

Turn on "Capture Layered Windows".

Just like he said, basically you need Windows Aero to be enabled on Windows 7 for transparent windows to be picked up by XSplit.
|
Hey Ascend,
Awesome job, I love it. I'm glad to see someone did something real with the idea. My scoreboard was one of the first, and as such, I just implemented a basic set of features on a basic UI. Glad to see someone improving on all areas where I left off
Regards, nodash

hey there
like nodash said good job well done -
when im casting tournaments and im in the later rounds where its not a bo1 i use your scoreboard - like the design and teh function - much more prefereed over the blizzard one - thx alot

Hey thx ascend, ur doing such a good job for the whole starcraft community. there are so many casters who r using ur starboard. Though i have a question: May u make a version for MacOSX, too pls. That would be so nice =)

Unfortunately I only really work with Windows development (since this is a .NET application). Mono isn't to a stable point in .NET 4.0 as far as I've seen, and I don't think it even supports WPF. If someone wanted to use all the images, photoshop documents, and code references to basically recreate this for Mac OS X, I have no problems with that.
However, I imagine most of the casting community, as-is, uses Windows. Fraps is Windows-only, XSplit is Windows-only (and also .NET at that), and while I know Mac is definitely good for doing video composition, game capture and streaming still seems to be revolving around Windows.
Also, developing for a Mac would require buying a Mac. And I don't have that kind of money lol
|
|
I've even seen this used in competitive HoN haha
|
I've released a version 1.0, fixing a few bugs. Otherwise, I've seen lots of streams using this now, and have had very little bug reports or complaints so it seems to be working pretty well.
V1.0 Changes: * Moved toggle buttons outside of the expanders * The scoreboard itself no longer displays in the task manager. * Added F1/F2 hotkeys for changing player names. * Shorter transition timers on subbar text * Fixed bug with setting transparency causing incorrect window positioning.
|
Another quick update:
V1.1 Changes * Added button to swap player positions on the scoreboard.
This is intended for casters, like drooL, who overlay the scoreboard above the Blizzard Ctrl+N names to show the supply counts. You can now easily swap the players to put them in the right positions. It's also useful for KOTH users who want to keep the king on a consistent side.

Had a feature request, so implemented it today:
v1.2 Changes * Settings are saved to the registry upon closing, including: Size, Position, and Transparency settings.
Basically, it'll stay how you left it. Settings are in the registry, so no additional files are added and only save for the current user. If you're wondering where the settings are stored, the values are at: "HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Ascend\Starboard\"
You can always download the latest release from http://ascendtv.com/starboard

Ascend, I absolutely love the work on the programs you make. Seriously you're a hero. The only request I have is if it is possible to increase the width of the bar in future versions, so my subtext can fit in better?
Another thing would be to let the announcements cycle every X seconds, in Y size, where X and Y are user definable. (Edit: I mean here that the text size Y should be scaled to fit messages into the box if possible :D)
I think for me personally that's all that misses :O

I'll take it into consideration, see if I can figure out a good way to accomplish that for you.
For anyone curious, the latest versions on Github include code for networking, where you can remote control the scoreboard from another computer. Works pretty good both over the internet and over a local network, and the changes are fairly instant. Doesn't include subbar and announcement text changes yet, but something I'll get working in the future.
I'm also working on a (less useful) android app (Screenshot) and a (more useful) iPad app to accomplish the same thing. They're just excuses for me to learn mobile development.
|
Great scoreboard, can't thank you enough for your programming time. I have a quick feature requests, that should be easy.
Ability to hide the # - # scoreboard and keep displaying the sub text. I like to use overlay for streaming ladder and score is useless. I usually just have sub text with Ladder/Rank Etc and would sooo much cleaner without 0-0.
|
I've pushed a new version tonight, version 1.3, with the following changes:
v1.3: * Added remote control support. * Slightly cleaner interface, featuring a fancy header graphic.
Networking (remote control) is the most important here. If you head to the download page, you'll also see apps for controlling Starboard from another computer. This is geared towards casters with only one monitor, where you may have a laptop nearby and would rather control the scoreboard from there (or give control to someone else entirely).
There is also an Android app, and I'll admit, updating the scoreboard from a phone is less convenient, but it was an excuse to learn Android development and design. Both remote applications are very rudimentary, since I'm not sure if there's any demand for this, and the sync is only one way (going TO starboard), so you won't see the current information on-screen from the remote apps.
You can always find the latest releases of all the apps here: http://ascendtv.com/starboard/

i just downloaded the android thing ... will totally try it when i'm home :D which port do i have to enter into that field?

Still great overlay. I can't however figure out the subtext and the seconds field. Is there a summary of how that works exactly somewhere?
|
On September 03 2011 03:01 drooL wrote: i just downloaded the android thing ... will totally try it when i'm home :D which port do i have to enter into that field?
Whichever port you decide to use when enabling networking in Starboard, it's in the settings tab. By default, remote control is off so random people can't take over. Default port is 12000, a completely random number i chose.
|
ohoohh snap, I just tried the remote with my phone and it's the coolest thing in the world, haha. I think I'll totally use it for swap players and that stuff. What you totally need to do though, Ascend, is put +1 buttons for the players into the mobile interface. Because at this point, if you just want to give someone a +1, you need to enter his name again etc. 1.3.1 gogo :D Much love!
On September 03 2011 08:32 Thorantham wrote: Still great overlay. I can't however figure out the subtext and the seconds field. Is there a summary of how that works exactly somewhere?
You just enter text into the field and the seconds determine how long it is shown until it switches to the next one. It's the space where you can provide tourney details, the current map/round, write fun stuff and all that jazz Pretty straight forward.

I've updated Starboard and the Android app:
Starboard: 1.3.1 Changes: * Fixed bug where subbar and announcements would disappear after entering/exiting settings * Added additional networking commands for increment player scores and retriving player information.
Starboard Mobile: 1.1 Changes: * Added +1 quick button to the main screen to quickly increment player's scores * Player information is now retrieved and displayed when entering the "Update Player" screens.
All versions are available now at http://ascendtv.com/starboard
Let me know if you have any issues installing 1.1 over 1.0 on Android. I don't really have any experience with that, but if you have any trouble, you can always uninstall the old version and reinstall the new one.

this is happening to me as well since the latest update -- Downloaded source to debug thew: XAML Parser Errors.

Odd that I haven't seen this myself, although the position key should have never changed. I'll be sure to handle this a bit more gracefully in the next version.

And they way on describing your problem... how can anyone fix that?
Write your operating system, your version of starboard, etc.

The most likely culprit is you don't have .NET 4.0 Client Profile installed. You can install it here: http://www.microsoft.com/download/en/details.aspx?id=17113
And yes, I saw the Starboard popup on stream. In case you all didn't know, I did make the scoreboards for IPL2, IPL3 Qualifiers, and IPL3 Origins (both the protoss and zerg themes). They use Starboard's control panel with designs provided by IGN.

To fix a couple issues, I've released another update:
1.3.2: * Fixed networking issue for users with multiple ethernet ports, or services such as Hamachi installed. * Fixed crash when position field in registry is incorrect.

Jesus, so nice thanks alot

the new version is working perfectly thanks ascend

Awesome job, just love it. Is there any way to change the style of the scoreboard, like IPL did?

This is a great addition to my stream.

The project is open source but requires a small amount of knowledge in WPF, but essentially the scoreboard control can be changed to look like anything. I've still been trying to figure out a way to add the ability to "skin" the scoreboard, but haven't figured out a good method yet.

Would it be possible for you, to make a small tutorial on how to change the Scoreboard? I'm not quite sure if you have the time to do that, but I guess a lot of people would appreciate it.

If you're interested in remote controlling the scoreboard from your Android device, Starboard Mobile is on the Android Market.
Starboard Mobile on Android Market
* Supports Portrait and Landscape * Supports most (all?) screen sizes. * Android 2.2+ devices
I may try to lower what version of Android it requires soon, but here is an initial version. All source code is available on Github.

Updated to version 1.4 today.
v1.4.0 * Added support for Starboard as a direct XSplit plugin. Simply drag the preview from the main setup window over to XSplit.
As always, download the latest version of Starboard here: http://ascendtv.com/starboard
Since this version includes plugin support, it's a couple more files now. Extract the zip anywhere and run starboard-sc2.exe as normal. I may get an installer working for it later on for those that prefer it.
As it says, drag the preview of the scoreboard from the window over to XSplit and the scoreboard should appear. This method uses much less resources than screen capture, so is the preferred way of using Starboard inside of XSplit. Transparency is supported this way as well, so if you're a developer customizing the scoreboard, transparency will no longer be an issue. (If drag-drop doesn't work for you, you can drag the .xbs file into XSplit alternatively).
To use the XSplit plugin, be sure you update to the latest version of XSplit, Beta 6 Release Candidate (minimum v1.0.1112.0503): http://www.xsplit.com/download/
Let me know if you have any troubles. If an older version of XSplit is installed or XSplit is not used at all, then the XSplit drag-drop support should simply be disabled and not cause any harm.

I just got my webcam so I'm finally setting up all the good things I need to actually stream properly. It's also awesome that Tobi was using this for the Dota2 tournaments this weekend.

I have a few questions. I'm trying to tweak this out with xplit and whenever i add a starboard its a defaulted one which i don't know how to change?.. but i found to counteract this I can just open up the program and put it as a screen region then change the board how I want it to look. But then if i close it everything I did is gone and I have to start from scratch when I reopen it. So essentially is there a save key? or a better way to use this then that of what I am aware of? :x
|
@FreezingAssassin: What sort of things are you changing? Parameters you change in XSplit should save as part of the scene and presentation. Nothing necessarily saves on Starboard (besides the position), but if using it as a plugin, you shouldn't need to show the scoreboard on your screen at all.

In Starboard, when you're looking at the options, you have to enable the remote. Specify the port number there, by default 12000. When you enable remoting, on an applicable OS, it'll ask you to open the firewall for the application.

just wanted to say thanks for this - i am using this quite often when i do casts

The version in XSplit sources wasn't made by me, it's made by the XSplit developers. If you want to use the latest version in XSplit, you can activate the plugin by dragging the preview image (on the bottom of the main app) over to your XSplit scene. You should see the scoreboard appear and it will update without needing to show the scoreboard on your screen.

Hey thanks for this app, it's really awesome. I wanted to know how to go about skinning this? I do a lot of graphics, and would like to make some mild mods to the interface.

The interface is written in XAML, a markup language used for creating interfaces in WPF. It should be fairly straight-forward if you look at ScoreboardControl.xaml. You can see how the current scoreboard is created here: https://github.com/ascendedguard/starboard-sc2/blob/master/starboard-sc2/View/ScoreboardControl.xaml
Elements are rendered from top to bottom in order, so elements near the bottom will be placed on top of others. For example, the top <Image Source="/Images/Background.png"/> draws the background image, upon which everything is later placed.
In most cases, making a custom scoreboard is simply creating your custom layout in this file. When using Visual Studio 2010, you will see a designer view to assist in creating and positioning elements, and uncommenting that top line should allow some sample data to be shown in the design view.

Hey guys,
I was wondering if anyone knows of a program that I can use to cast replays/live games onto my computer (not streaming) while still having Starboard visible. I am currently using Fraps but it only records what is shown in-game and I cannot seem to find any settings for making it see things on top.
Does anyone know of a program that will do this?
Thanks! Bogus

Thanks! Bogus If you pay for an Xsplit license you can make a local MP4 recording.

Ahhh ok so you can use Xsplit for that.. Might go ahead and grab it then.

I've uploaded a new version:
v1.5.0: Fixed bug with XSplit connections being established too many times and causing flashing. Added hotkey for swapping players (F3). Added installer, which requires no admin privileges.
Download from: http://ascendtv.com/starboard
The installer will (should) detect whether you have .NET installed, and start the proper web install if not. This part will likely require admin permissions (and should prompt accordingly) but the regular install will not. Running Starboard will never require admin privileges either.
For the more curious, Starboard gets installed to %localappdata%/Starboard/Application/, a similar fashion to how Chrome installs itself without needing admin permissions. Shortcuts are added to the start menu and the desktop. You can always uninstall from the Add/Remove Programs menu, nothing will be left over from the install, it should clean up fully.

Damn, this tool is really amazing! Thanks a bunch for creating it, and making it freeware. big hearts from me!

I forked this on Github and added functionality to make Starboard automatically fill in player data on game start and also to detect a player win in 1v1 and update the score accordingly (by color).

Thanks for the contribution, I'm gonna play around with this and see if I can break it :D .....reminds me to finish up the little animation system I was adding to the xsplit plugin version.

Great. Feel free to PM me if anything goes wrong. I did find a crashy problem in the previous commit, but fixed that and also I made it so whenever you change the player name or race during a game the program remembers that and uses the new name and/or race in future games with that player. (This also alleviates the problem of not being able to detect whether a player is playing as Random.)

Make sure that 1) Starboard is visible on your screen, on top of SC2 2) You use the "Rectangle on screen" option rather than the "DirectX/OpenGL window" option in the recording program.

Hello. I'm Korean StarCraft fan, and Ihave a question about this program. I installed this for using scores of team match of Brood War for Korean SC gamers. But, I have a big problem of this program. Can't I set other color that is not in this program? There are 9 colors in this program, such as none, red, blue, teal, purple, yellow, brown, green, and pink. But, there are many colors in StarCraft, andmost of colors are not added in this. So, can you add other colors(bluish grey, white, magenta, etc.) in this program? I really want makers to add many colors in it. If maker or other people see this reply, could you tell them to add colors in Starboard? Thank you very much.

It wouldn't be very hard to add colors. The question is if the author is still active or not.

I don't think the author is active. He last made changes to code on 27 October 2012.

Looks like you can add your colors in Model->PlayerColor.cs then add the RadioButton in View->ColorSelectionControl.xaml
Maybe this works

There is another file which is PlayerColorConverter.cs if I remember right. This is where you specify RGB colours. It's an easy change from what I see, but I can't compile project locally because I miss VHMediaCOMLib. That seems to be an XSplit library which I'm unsure how to download. Overall, I think the project is dead and it's not worthwhile to revive it using the old tools. What do casters use? Maybe if it's open source, we could try to work on it.
Edit: They probably use https://tl.net/forum/starcraft-2/400600-gameheart-overlay-20 and https://github.com/teampheenix/StarCraft-Casting-Tool
