i agree with this, maby she felt like she just had to fuck to fuck up the VODS too as a "thank you" to the community. Good thing she is leaving, I couldnt stand her accent/voice and lack of game knowledge and i havent intorduced a single person to GSL since she started there becuse they would just rofl.

[B]As for the incident on Bnet about me talking in GCPL it was a joke. I went in to troll. God people need to relax. Trolls can't get trolled in return? How typical of a bully :0 Btw the comments that made me go in and troll for fun wasn't about me going back to Singapore it was super racist with comments like BACK TO CHINA. I don't think that was not racist That's all I won't reply anymore. Or read this thread. I don't know why it's not locked yet. But it should be :p
A. That is extremely unprofessional.
B. It is not locked because people have the right to free speech, and people who are not sexist or racist have a right to have an opinion. They are paying money for your casting, and should be able to express themselves on how they feel about it.
I personally do not feel I am getting my money's worth. Kell interrupts and basically steps on DOA's casting, which is not perfect by any means, but I do feel he is getting better as the "stagefright" lessens. Kelly's lack of insight and play-by-play, is not up to par with the requirements GOM should have.
The most common opinion in this thread seems to be aimed at the accent of kellymilkies. I tend to agree with this trend. This stream is aimed at the english speaking community, and hence commentators should speak close to fluent english and at least not have an accent that requires most people to strain their ears to understand what is being said.

I can understand her fine. The only thing I'm missing from the commentators is that high level analysis that Tasteless and Artosis bring. They can predict what the players are attempting and give you an inside view on what's going on where as the Code A commentators are mainly reacting to what they see. That's why these two are casting code a. If they were tastosis level casting then they would cast code s, right?
Exactly but I've seen talk and chat about people saying they can't wait until she leaves so Tasteless or Artosis can cast again.

I really do hope and believe a pairing will be found that satisfies everyone so they get a break finally from having to do both code a and code s. It must be really taxing for them. Hopefully sooner than later so everyone can get back to enjoying their starcraft and not fighting over someone that is leaving pretty much after this series.

I respect her knowledge , it really improved a lot but kelly rearlly needs to improve her accent, she is always putting the emphasis on the wrong part of the word , even as a non native speaker I find it really annoying.. (SupernoVAAAAAAA ... ), if it was not for that I really think you could be a caster for code A.
|
I haven't heard Kelly cast before the Code A finals today, but I'd seen all the furore about her on the forums and now I'm left scratching my head over why everyone has made such a big deal out of it? No, she's not the best caster in the world, and I would prefer Tasteless and Artosis, but she does a decent job. Definitely not deserving of some of the comments she gets.
|
I don't understand the level of hatred going on here. Yes she is difficult to understand, but starting a witch-hunt because of that is ridiculous. If you are really discontent with her casting, give your feedback to GOMTV about this and hope for a change.
|
I sincerely hope she gets the job because it would be fate's most amusing reaction to the novels of hatred/dissatisfaction everything related to her spawns.. She's improved a lot since she started, but I think she jived the best with Artosis. Her and Doa aren't a bad pair, either.

Thank god. no offense to her but every time i tune on my ears bleed from her mispronunciation, and her lack of knowledge just makes the gsl unprofessional.
good luck to her career and her future, and hopefully she will become a better caster thats actually worth listening to.

If anything really ticks me off about these threads, it's posts like these.
Just because like 5% of all the people who don't think Kelly is a good caster made a few obnoxious comments (and most of them are new to the community as well, and most got warned/banned for it), people somehow feel entitled to throw these absurd holier-than-thou one-liners around.
You can't force your way to casting the second best Korean tournament and you can't force people to accept you if you just aren't a good caster. For the majority of people, her casting was ruining the experience of watching a top level Starcraft tournament instead of contributing to it (even a number of pro players has admitted the same thing).
As far as I've seen, most people have been as friendly as possible about it, but no matter how friendly you try to make it sound, there's no pleasant way to tell anybody that they are really bad at what they do (especially if they're passionate about it).
It is what it is. Ideally, it should never have come to this in the first place and I'm sorry that it did, but that's essentially GOM's fault. They really needed to scout casters better before giving somebody a "test run" in Code A.

Though now when she returned to the Code A finals with DoA .. i feel we need to do something. I want the starcraft scene to grow in the west and she's is not face we want to show the newbies (no i dont think she is ugly). i mean the lack of game-sense, bad jokes and at stressful times not even beeing able to understand what she is saying. i know alot dont like Kelly because of the pronouncing of words, im fine with that but i can't accept as a fan and as a costumer at GOMTv to listen to a hurricane of words slapping me in the ears.
She might be great for a stream in Vietnam, probaly. But the stream for Europe and America? no she is not.
Can we start a petition so we can see actually how many who wants a new caster side by side to DoA? or a vote of some kind? we need to do something because this is a joke, i dont want GOMTv or the Starcraft community to loose viewers. Suggestions? start threads in a rational way, not a hating/trolling fashion and explain why we dont want Kelly to be voice of code A.
You're absolutely correct. It's obvious that we third-worlders don't know how to appreciate good commentary *rolling eyes*
I'm normally fine with racism and stereotypes (God I love Russell Peters) but what you said was highly inappropriate and simply untrue.
-------------
Back on topic, I got a mixed feeling about this incident. I'm sad that a girl who devoted so much for e-Sport couldn't get the recognition she expected. But if that's what the whole community wanted, then it's cool with me. I personally had no problem with her cast, probably because I'm sort of used to the accent. I think her game knowledge is lacking, but it was somewhat compensated by the presence of Artosis and Tasteless (but now that both of them are no longer casting Code A, I'm not sure what would happen if Kelly stayed).
Like someone mentioned above, accent does play a big part when your job is talking to people. You don't see Don LaFontaine making epic 7,000+ trailers with a high pitch voice. Normally Keylly's accent would not be an issue, but it became one when majority of her audiences had been so used to the perfect American accent (or British accent for that matter). It doesn't matter if the quality of the track is good or how beautiful the melody is, if the speakers are broken, they're just as bad (no offense to Kelly's voice, I just couldn't come up with a better analogy).
I hope that she will improve on her commentary skills and one day come back to the scene

Personally I think this little quote from a few posts above adds a new dimension to the discussion. Show nested quote +On March 11 2011 16:20 kellymilkies wrote: I went in to troll. God people need to relax. This shows a really bad and very unprofessional attitude and I am actually glad she is gone from GSL casting. Lets apply some common sense: - Everyone dislikes trolls. - Trolls are very emotional about what they do and answer with their heart instead of their mind. - Trolls feed on trolling. So if someone dislikes trolling he or she should never ever troll herself. This should be especially true for "professionals" and people "in the public eye". That is the big difference from a casting job and any 9 to 5 factory job ... everything you do is subject to criticism and you dont have a private life anymore where you can troll and misbehave as you like as "Joe Factoryworker" can. A comment like "people need to relax" to justify trolling is beyond belief. No kidding. We were just discussing Code A and the casters and 2 people were trolling our discussion, but does that justify someone coming in and telling everyone to suck a dick there because of two people trolling the discussion. I understand what the one guy said about going back to China was offensive (which was obviously out of line but he was like that for the entire GCPL last night so that wasn't the first offensive thing he had said). What was said by Kelly didn't seem like trolling, it was directly insulting people and applying stereotypes to members of a community you are supposed to be a figurehead of. Not to mention as a professional that looks really bad if you can't take the heat from a portion of the community without attacking back. The best thing to do is just ignore it and don't take what people say to heart when they're saying bad things because there always will be those people who are against you as long as you are in the public eye, it's just how things are, whether we like it or not.

I didnt have the biggest problem is Kelly's accent but some of the game knowledge. For instance when a zerg pulls droes off gas after getting speed, this does not mean that the zerg is going to go for a zergling all in. Things like that bothered me alot especially since she used to be a zerg player before switching to the light side (aka toss). Another thing that bothered me was there was a hidden twilight council on the map and she said it was going to be a super secret blink rush. I think Doa was like "or that could be Dark Templars...." Things like that made me cringe from her but I thought she was funny and entertaining (especially faking out artosis for the high five). But the game knowledge was a little lacking and this is not what i look for in a caster in one of the most prestigious tournaments in the world I watch the tournament to learn to play better and getting information that is not correct bothers me and makes me think that i cannot really take any strategy she talks about seriously.
Kelly if you read this i think you are a wonderful person who is funny and entertaining but your game knowledge just needs some work if you are going to come back to cast again for whatever tournament you go to next.

I think it was mentioned by Jon from GOM ... but there is a lot of factors that go into evaluating a caster (or any employee, for that matter).
Obviously Kelly's accent was distracting, but that was just one of the many things Kelly has to improve on in order to become a solid on-air personality.
This is a case of someone not doing enough things well, versus doing one thing horribly wrong. I'm sure they're evaluating DOA the same way as well.
For example, Tasteless can be a little silly at times, but he also provides solid play-by-play, finishes Artosis's thoughts and sentences, tees up Artosis for analysis, is remarkably funny and comfortable on camera, plugs the sponsors constantly, etc.
