Grandmaster is the top 200, but withen that you still have top 80 grandmaster, and top 50 grandmaster. So its as highly competetive as you want it to be. There is only 1 grandmaster division, so everyone gets ranked at that level on a region wide scale. ----------------- I did get in grandmaster in the PTR (as high as GM rank 5) One thing I dont think people understand is just how HARD it is to maintain points as a grandmaster. When you are a grandmaster losing to even a grandmaster can lose you 20+ points. But unless you defeat like another in grand master you only get like 1 point max (and even then the highest I have seen is 5 points for the two top 10 grand masters playing against each other). Most of the time you get 0 points even for a win (but can still lose TONS of points for a lose). Its going to be very very hard to get points unless your good even if you get into grand master. And if you dont get points, you dont spend your bonus pool, and you get kicked out. | ||

That's an interesting point - it's not so much playing a random number of games, but gaining points. If you only win 1-5 points then spending the bonus pool indeed becomes much harder. | ||

but making special icons for ranks within a division (outside of grandmaster i guess) i just plain stupid and just further encourages people to go over their rank instead of points/mmr/whatever and i think we all know how worthless the "hi im top10 X" posts are. its just totally random and just depends on the division. for example im in one of the first masters divisions with tons of pros in it. here you need 3200 for top50, 3500 for top 25 and 3750 for top 10. in my buddys division he is 2nd with 3050 points. | ||
