oGs vs IM in the Ro8? Are you kidding me? T_T
It'll be good to see the players SlayerS is going to field. Hoping for some good games. =)

why the hell isnt Liquid there?
|
Haha, oGs vs IM should be the finals....

I believe its because TL doesnt have enough points. The points are somehow calculated from the individual performances of the team members.

Not enough liquid people in korea. maybe a oGs-Liquuid team? not sure

Furthermore SlayerS is 1st in the zotac team invitational. ZeNEX is 2nd so it's pretty crazy they're at it together in the first round. Should be exciting.
Edit: Further clarification (Link).

I believe the Ro8 are by seed as well (oGs has 8 code S players, no Code A players, so they're first, and they play the 8th seed, 2nd seed plays 7th, etc.)

No liquid is trailing behind in 9th in terms of points from what I can recall. *Edit: somebody beat me to it!

The GSTL is only 4 days long?
I thought the GSTL was it for February. Are we having the team league concurrent with Season 5, or do we really only get 4 days of Starcraft in February?
|
Pretty powerfull line up there, hopefully all teams will bring their top players. Should be an awesome event

It's a week before GSL5 and it is 4 days of GSTL according to their schedule. Remember that after the finals there will be Korean new years holliday according to their schedule so there will be 2 weeks in between the GSL season (4 and 5) in which the GSTL will be scheduled to play.

All I can say is hell its about time. Too many people playing this game to have something like just GSL for individual players, this is really healthy for things even its all koreans(at the moment I hope? :o)

So GSL season 5 starts around Valentine's Day? D'aww.
Too bad that makes the Team Liquid basically a side show for bragging rights, though.
Edit: Team LEAGUE a sideshow, I mean. Team LIQUID is obviously a manly team for manly dudes.

IM vs. fOu finals, I reckon.
|
IM will clean house if MVP/Nestea play up to their normal standard. No other player in any other team really comes close in terms of raw skill atm.

Not really, IM have NesTea and MVP sure, but it's not like they have a particularly deep roster outside of that so if they underperform once they are in huge trouble. Think they are last in ZOTAC at the moment because neither of those guys are taking part.
This should be a fun event though, looking forward to it.

No liquid? :/
i thought a new season for team league is supposed to be a fresh start so we can see players who are good but not in Code A/S yet.
|
Don't quite understand how the match-ups were determined, randomized I'm assuming?
If it was based on the rankings it would look more like this:
oGs vs SlayerS Prime vs IM ZeNex vs ST TSL vs fOu
Which seems more balanced.

OGS vs IM... Unbelievable. Quickly losing faith in Gom.

I was just curious if it were possible for TL and EG to combine to participate in the team league? So basically Idra would play with the TL guys for the GSTL. If you intend to flame in answer to my question don't bother, it's just a question.
Edit: I am aware that they might not necessarily be eligeble for the competition.
|
that should not be possible and would not be fair They are different teams after all and i think there should not be something like a foreigner advantage or "foreigner Team" And even then, there would still not enough players to be number 8 of all teams.

could be a good idea to consolidate the foreign guys together.
We can add in torch in the fray too!

This may be a stupid question, but does it get commentated by Tastosis?
|
|
Could the Gomtv Staff put up a team and compete as well, that would be so awesome (and it would force Junkka of his WoW addiction).
In all seriousness I think Team Incredible Miracle will win this pretty easy. Nestea and Mvp just are on a different level.
|
So TL needs 1 more player in Code S and 2 in Code A?
|
I'm not pessimistic about Liquid not being in (they have to earn it obviously), but I'm probably not gonna watch it as long as they're not in. However, I do also think that a team league shouldn't be dependent on individual results.

It will be either oGs or IM

i agree, plus the fact that its the first season. everyone should be given a chance.

it is all kill format!
prime vs im finals
|
On January 26 2011 01:28 Heimatloser wrote: it is all kill format!
prime vs im finals GSTL has the chance of having more foreign teams in the GSTL due to the 4 invitees into code S. HuK or another TL + qualifiers of TL could make them go up to 6th/7th place or at the least 8th.
So GOM is basically by having that 4invitee list making sure there are some foreign players representing their teams (if multiple from same team then the better) in the rankings that is close to top8 so we should be able to see foreign teams in the GSTL soon after few seasons or maybe next season.

But given the format of this tournament (8 players/team), Liquid does not have enough players in Korea to compete. There's Jinro, Huk, Haypro, and Ret....unless I'm missing someone.

Dont know if you're right. Let's assume TL is able to get enough "points" how will they be able to meet the following requirement: "Format: Each team selects 8 players"
TL only has Jinro, ret, Haypro, Huk down in Korea, right? Still 4 people missing. So as long as there is no joint effort between the foreign teams (if it is allowed) I dont see how we might see foreigners participating in that team league any time soon.

The GSL foreigner invites are Code A participants according to John's 1st post in the thread. Has Gom announced when the next GSTL would be after this first one in February? So much can change with each month's up/down and qualifiers that it's almost pointless to try and project.
|
How does the GSTL work as far as premium tickets are concerned? Is it separate for only four days of action, is it free, or is it somehow paired with either GSL4 or GSL5 ticket?
This may not be the place to ask and I may be better off asking at the GOM forums but if anyone knows I would appreciate it.

I don't understand why Gom would require 8 players. I wonder if it's a mistranslation or just miscommunication. If the final, the longest round, is essentially a BO9, then at most a team would only need 5 players. You can only lose 5 times (4 in the early rounds) then why the extra players?
Maybe they want 8 to ensure a team has back ups and will always have a full roster ready?
I imagine it'd be an important thing for Gom to explain, because it wouldn't be unreasonable for a team like Liquid (if they qualified) to fly out their 5th team member if they only need 5.
|
I'd like to see liquid play for ogs a couple games since they don't have enough point wise to compete, maybe we'll see that. Also is this team league similar to those bw matches that are listed in tournaments as for example [swl] khan vs fox. I seen some and they look like teams but i'm not sure if its something else entirely.

Whats the point of having 8 players in a team when its practically best of 7? Only 4 players get to play. I mean, a team can just always let the best 4 players of their team play while the rest just sits and watch.... unless its 4 players in 1 round and other 4 another next round no matter what?

Well, f.ex if you know you'll be playing OZ you're going to want to try play your best vZ versus Jaedong even though he's not top 4 in the team.

Yea but the arrangement is set in a roster order according to the rules? Its not like you can change your lineup just to counter them.

why the fuck would i, or most anyone without a ton of time to spare, want to watch this further than the ogs vs. im match when you got one of zenex/slayers guaranteed to go through and one of ogs/im guaranteed to drop out
at least it's cheap so you can watch vods for eventual upsets / surprises
(edit: they can do random once they get it off the ground and stir up some interest, they could've called this 'inaugural' blah-blah and seeded in accordance to the reality of the individual players' current skill levels for an epic league starter, god damn, use some marketing brain power ffs)

Nice point you have made there. We shouldn't underestimate the seemingly weaker teams, they could have very good players too, but are just underrated at the moment because of their lack of showings in tournaments like the GSL.

I just really can't wait for the day SC2 gets it's own proleague to watch every night. Watching teams face off in an LAN type format is just the best type of Starcraft to me, aside from tournament finals.

Rooting for TSL, but could definitely see IM winning with both MVP and Nestea as very capable of all-killing. On the flip side, if upsets occur against them, IM could easily lose. Also, with oGs's depth and players who can pull of multiple kills, I see them going very far.

Why do I get the feeling that the winner of oGs vs IM is just gonna ROFLstomp through the rest of the teams and win?
I mean the other teams arent bad, its just that IM got MVP and oGs got MC...

its a bummer that we wont see a liquid team quite yet but you know it'll come in the future ,cant wait! im so excited to see just these teams alone so down the line its just goin to be so crazy fun especially a team EG?! XD crossing my fingers all day every day

Yeah kinda true, but still. Just having MVP and NesTea there could give several by them alone.

oGs is deep, but frankly I don't think IM has a strong team beyond MVP and NesTea... can you even name anyone other than them on IM?

Junwi and Losira are the only ones I can think of. I still remember Losira was damn impressive in his GSL S1 match when he lost...just nvr qualified again :/ Funny he's usually around the top in the KR ladder

Believe it or not, MVP lost to ZenexPuzzle in the Zotac tourney a couple days ago. Granted, MVP was probably focusing all his practice time on TvT in preparation for the GSL final against marineking. Still, if there's one matchup where MVP might fall it would be TvP.

Indeed, actually the interesting thing about this TL is that we should get to see a number of interesting players who haven't yet qualified for the GSL in action. Some of the ZOTAC results were an eye opener.

There's quite a few very good players who haven't entered gsl yet. I wouldn't be surprised if code A qualifications is more competitive than the actual code a this season.

I don't like this format for team league. I'd like to have them playing against all other teams, so it makes 7 for each and in the end team with most wins takes it all. Now there's like 1-3 matches for each team
Imo elimination format won't work for team league of 8 teams.
Hope Liquid guys make good work in Code A and Code S in the future so we'd see them in the GSTL

Zenex vs Slayers appears to be the weak first round, oGs vs. IM is a battle of titans.

While IMMvP might seem to be invincible, I remind you that MvP lost to choyafOu in GSL 3 Ro16. Yes, that choyafOu.

They aren't if you check the link in the original post you will see that there is indeed a teamliquid standing in 9th place due to point distribution. If say Ret, Jinro and Huk make it in Code A/ Code S they will still be short in points to be able to pass the Slayers team for 8th spot. But they don't really have all the players needed to be able to play since you need a 8 player roster. And Teamliquid has like 8 players in total.

I agree with this. Anything can happen though, as the Zotac invitational showed. I hope Puzzle turns out to be as much of a baller as that allkill reveals~

IMO whoever wins between IM and OGS will win it. Just because there are no player that can play at the level of best players in either teams at this point. (Nestea, MvP, MC, maybe Nada) Rest of the teams may have 1 player per team that could take a game or two from them.
What I'm saying is, it's hard pressed to come up with a list of player that can challenge these guys.

Those are both players who are not yet in the GSL and won't be for at least a few promotion/demotion cycles, yet they've both managed some impressive performances. I've seen Jinro speak very highly of Bomber for instance, and I'm sure there are others who can be competitive at that level. Bo1 format also leaves it a bit more open to shock results, I don't think it'll be as straightforward as it might look.

I understand there are players out there that can surprise everyone, those are rare cases. It'd be even more rare to have two of those players on a team.
Also I believe that best Bo1 is more head games than say Bo3 because as (perceived) stronger player will have more confidence to start with. I believe that's a good thing for the stronger player unless he underestimates too much.
Though Jinro speaks highly of Bomber, he also spoke highly of the likes of MC and MKP before.
Lastly old MvP =/= new MvP just like old Jinro =/= new Jinro

You can find plenty of examples of currently top players losing to lesser players in the past. As it stands right now, MvP only dropped 1 game to Nestea in GSL4, his own teammate. IM will probably win this teamleague.

Choya is disqualified for fOu for his rock-paper-scissor ladder antics. That said I'd probably still agree that fOu will take it against Startale, unless Rainbow pulls his finger out and starts playing well again.
EDIT: oh and I'd add squirtle to the list of notable ST players. We haven't seen a great deal of him but the word is that he's pretty good.

I really don't understand why they have to select 8 players. If it is a best of 7, then maximum 4 people from each team can play.
Could somebody explain this for me? I never saw clan fights in BW.
I already bought the ticket. It is probably around 3,5 € so that would be the price of 2 beers. Pretty cheap. I hope the new commentators will be casting this though. I love Tastosis but I would like to see some new faces. Code A and Code S is a bit too much for 1 Casting Archon.
Anyway, can somebody explain, please?

Apparently Code A will be casted by different people (TorcH??).. while we will probably se the casting archon on GSTL and Code S.
As for predictions.. I'd go for fOu, Prime, IM and Slayers.. The closest match seems to be oGs vs IM, but an MVP all-kill is likely, and even if he gets taken out, they still got NesTea.. way too much power in 2 players.
TSL vs Prime also sounds good, I expect MKP to deliver in this matchup, hopefully we'll see a fruitdealer/MKP ace match!!

Jinro is on Team Liquid. Which is not oGs. That are different teams. Because they are not the same team.
But maybe you want to say that Jinro will go cheer on oGs, which would give them the power of ten thousand suns. Then I agree.

IM is actually scary.
If you actually think about the level and style these two are playing at (IMMvp & Nestea). They are very similiar to Flash and Jaedong of BroodWar.
-Mvp: no mistakes, deadly timing pushes, insane macro, can turtle... screams Flash -Nestea: When no other zerg is winning, he is. Extremely great macro zerg, creative lategame techniques... Jaedong.
And these two players are on one team. It's scary to see what any team can do about that in any format really. oGs has good players, but they're players aren't as good as the SKT line up of Bisu, Fantasy, & Best. Fantasy is like MKP, and Bisu is like oGsMC... Atleast that's how their styles feel like. oGs lineup feels like old Hite Sparkys line up, one strong S class player, and the rest is Oz level non Jaedong players.
People never played BW might have some trouble understanding.
I want to list in my opinion best to worst chances:
1) IM- Nestea and Mvp in winner league style format. Good luck. 2) TSL- A powerhouse. 5 top level players in S class. SangHo, Tester, Fruitdealer, & Clide. Ouch. 3) oGs- A huge a deep lineup to choose from. Possible have best protoss in the world. Also Inca, another great protoss, as well as TOP and StC, great terran players. 4) ST- In the previous team league, have you seen ST Bomber and ST Squitle play? They are insanely good. They completely the line up with a now code S july and runner up Rainbow. 5) Sls- They have been getting new talent. In the other team league they are running strong with no-name players. I expect these to do well. 6) Prime: Their line up is large, but they don't have many great players, and the ones they do haven't been performing super well. Ofcourse MKP, but his play isn't super consistent. Maka, and HungUn still okay players, but they'll need to step up. 7) fOu: They have Choya who hasn't been playing well. They don't have any real top level players, but new talent which could do well. 8) ZeNeX: They aren't really getting any many new players. And they're current players aren't amazing. They have Kyrix with his on and off days, and they have Byun; new talent. Poor lineup.

In soccer, your team has like 15 ppl, but only 11 of them can play at the same time. Its like that. You must select 8 players of ur team but you only select 4 for the matches depending on the strategies you want to use.

TeamLiquid 3 x 1.0 1 x 1.6 = 4.6
Slayers (8th) 2 x 1.0 2 x 1.6 = 5.2
Plus I believe Slayers got another member in yesterday since I recall TorcH was playing Slayers guy in final.
Edit: Sorry, SlayerS actually got two new players and they actually have 1 Code S and 4 Code A for a total for 5.6 points.

liquid doesnt have enough players, you need 8 players on your team according to the rules they posted

My predictions
Ro8 ST vs FoU
Prime vs TSL
oGs vs IM
Zenex vs SlayerS
Semis Prime vs FoU
IM vs Zenex
Finals
Prime vs IM
MVP & Nestea 1-2 punch will beat too much to handle for anyone. They don't have as much depth however as some of the other teams, but both are capable of winning against multiple opponents in a row.
Prime vs TSL will be close, but I think MKP will be the difference.
This tourney should be very entertaining. $9,000 ain't too shabby for winning this.

lol you're damn right... this doesn't make any sense! In this case, team Liquid could be competing with their players in Korea (except the final where they'd need a 5th guy.. not that it would matter since they'd win before needing him anyway)

EG and TL should just merge the team together for a team league. no point in not going to a tournament because of not enough people. and they pretty much know each other.

mvp isn't invincible in a bo1 setting. the gsl is a tourney where you know the maps and the opponent, and mvp's training as a bw progamer helps him to prepare counter builds and anticipate the opponent extremely well, at least relative to other sc2 pros. in a WL format he's still extremely good of course, but he is not immune to mistakes, surprise builds, or occasional loss of form. with that said IM has more players than just mvp and nestea and they are probably still the favorite to win. it would not be a surprise if they lose though even in the first round.
|
If IM does lose it will most likely be in the first round or the last. oGs has probably the best protoss player in the world, or at least korea the only other argument for best in the world would be whitera, and just have a monster lineup to go with it especially if liquid gets to play with them. Prime on the other hand also has a great lineup and MKP to help them but I don't think they are as good as IM or oGs.
|
Crazy so this is the only GSL we'll have is those 5 days all month?
Hoping OGS lets jinro or someone play ^^.

Here's my question. Which individual PLAYA do you think is going to last the LONGEST?
hint hint*
|
I hope theSTC plays/is allowed to play. I haven't seen him play in ages :| Would be great to see some underdog-team in the finals, always makes it interesting.
|
I want to know if it's still first team to 4 kills for ro8 and ro4 (ie bo7) and first team to 5 kills for finals (ie bo9) or if it's in fact a bo3 for ro8/ro4 and a bo5 for finals :p as the side-info says here: http://www.gomtv.net/2011gstl1/schedule/
I assume and hope it's still bo7 and bo9 because bo3 and bo5 is ridiculous.

From the poll comments: "to the people mindlessly auto-voting IM and oGs... NEXPuzzle all-killed both of them in the ZOTAC Invitational (which was just las month) and IM ended dead last at 2-6 (lol) and oGs was only 4-4; ZeNex took second overall behind Startale.
Although this is the same format as WL, it's still best of ones, and players play differently in Team Leagues"

You need 12 players in BW Proleague, and it might be for two reasons: They don't want some random grouping of 4 players to come in and win everything, because that's not really a team, also because the coach chooses players go out one by one, look at the proleague, every team has like 6-10 players with played games on each team, even though they only use 4 players, because they use players for specific MU's or maps

Funny how #1 and #2 on the Poll are last and second last on the Zotac Team Invitational Season 2, yet #1 and #2 standing teams in Zotac are last on the poll!

MVP and NesTea were not super involved with the ZOTAC stuff though were they?

A lot of those teams have great players yet no champions or big names. I picked IM to win the team league but thinking now, it will probably be a team with less popular players like zenex, fou or something. Most excited to see these new gsl maps though and what the players can show us.

Best of 1s are really volatile and unpredictable hence why with IM's lackluster team other than NesTea and MVP I really don't think they have a chance. oGs at least has some strength behind it other than their hero player MC.
Here are some of the results of MVP and NesTea playing

And when IM don't put NesTea or MVP in they get all-killed by GumihofOu (lol), who was utterly horrible in my opinion in GSL.

I've seen a lot of those results before. I'd love to see how those games played out because it's pretty crazy, some of the stuff that apparently happened.
