Hey guys! This is my first thread here in the TeamLiquid forums, I hope it is in the right section.
Just wanted to share with you some wallpapers I made in Cinema 4D, starring the three race emblems from Starcraft: Zerg, Terran and Protoss.
There is a 1440x900 and a 1920x1080 version of each Wallpaper for suiting each user's resolution best.

Thanks for the observations, Tambourine. I thought of doing the creep all over the zerg one, but didn't. It could look very cool but I guess I kinda liked the way it looked, more like a silicon-based-fossil-thing, more than a living tissue kind of organism. I should have tried it though.
About the Terran one, yeah, maybe a little bit more wear and tear would be nice here and there, I tried my best deforming the wireframe by hand and with bump/displacement too. I also used rust and cracked textures like the ones you posted for this. But yeah, I guess I could have forced a little bit more to make it look more war-like.

Nice, I use Terran in game, but the Protoss wallpaper and the Zerg look pretty awesome.

uh, can you make one for random please? maybe instead of the weird dice thing, it can just have all three symbols in a triangle thing. That'd be pretty sweet

Pretty sick. I made my wallpaper as the zerg.

Hmm i think U should probably do a workover the Protoss one. In my eyes it is a bit to "dirty" with all that bump and displacement mapping. The Bump of the front part seems to be a stadnart noise pattern so.. aah dunno I think the noble Race of Protoss should have some clean symbol. And maybe their can be made some adjustments to the gold-shader on it as well..
But i rly like that Godray alike shinny Look from that light parts in it.
Just my 2 cent ; )
For the Random thing.. Maybe a Dice but with the RaceIcons as a hard strong displacement on the sides?

I see where you're going. That's actually like most of my work for advertising turns out to be like. Perfection and smooth surfaces. I like to escape from that aesthetic in my personal projects from time to time, hence the battered look I gave to the Protoss race emblem. Also, I was following Blizzards reference quite hard, if you look at it, it's quite rough too.

I think with the Protoss and Terran wallpapers you need to improve the background color schemes. I think something more red for the T one, and something maybe like cyan or blueish for the P one. They're quite nice though, gj

EDIT: I would agree with ChrysaliS though, a little rework on the background colors would be great! I'd love to see something night-blueish for the toss. Just sayin' 0

Great stuff, I like many others have stolen the protoss one.
Anyway I can get a version with the add(website bottom right) removed?
I should probably stop being lazy and try to remove it myself, but it's kinda not something I want to look at as part of my background.

Great job actually modeling those!
BUT there is a lot of banding going on (from the corner light sources towards the emblem), maybe you set the jpeg quality too low.
Can you re-render it as PNG please? That would look much much better!

Cool, I would love to learn how to use some 3d modeling software. Is Cinema 4D fairly easy to learn or is it bitch? What software would you recommend a novice to use if they just wanted to learn the basics of 3d modeling?

Cinema 4D is one of the most user-friendly 3D softwares out there. I'd reccomend Modo too. 3ds max and Maya are far too complicated for no reason. Really ancient software architecture.

Yeah, I kindof agree.
The Terran one is the hardest to bring beauty out of. I guess it is too flat and solid to bring out much volume and nuances.
