This whole topic is a joke. Players should get code A based on their skill, not based on a popularity contest on TL forums. Anyway, probably the best solution would be to hold some kind of an invitational with top players from each region.
|
Tigi take that approach and you could look at Trickstr/SSKS. he qualified first time and ro8 cool. however he failed to qualify the next two times. If he hadn't got to the ro8 the first time he'd probably not even be Code A. But he's clearly good enough because he's doing well in S-class.
*i know he's korean, but the whole 'attempt' to qualify but couldn't so he's not 'skilled'*

I'm not saying Brat_Ok is bad by any means, and in fact, i voted for him as well as he is one, if not the best terran in Europe (way superior to Sjow per example). But i feel that this kind of blocked vote from national communities cheapens the competition, and actually harms Brat_OK as everybody laughs and says: "lol, that's just the russians". This thread is starting to look like the Eurovision contest.
Partly ure right, pal. But try to look at it from the site of russians. In a sense we're always somewhere aside. And when the chance to see one of ours appeared everybody just wanted to go here and leave his note. It's not about chauvinism (this is typical sometimes for russians though), but just desire to see our best player in Korea. Many of those russians who can speak english good enough tried as well explain why he's doing it. Well I can understand that simple "I vote from BratOK" is a bit mindless. But please remember, not so many russians can speak english (the fact is bitter but still). If only you could speak to those in russian you would find out that they're not that chauvinistic at all.
Thank you

I don't think that very many Euro/NA players would beat Ret right now.
I think that the GSL tournament system is preposterous. 1 game/1 map/1 cheese elimination is intellectually retarded. I watch good matches on GSL, but it is not the best tournament to watch. I want good players to have a chance to win money, but I don't honestly think that it is a good economic decision for foreigners to attempt to win in Korea. Many of the Koreans are just sniping them, and GSL's ill thought system benefits that type of play. I am especially disappointed that even in Code S the 1 game syndrome is dominant.

I think that GSL should rather designate some of the online tournaments that are held regularly, such as Zotac or CraftCup or TL Open, to be effectively qualifiers for the GSL invitation slot, similarly to how TL Open is also a qualifier for the TSL, or organise an online qualifier themselves. I am sure a lot of people would be glad to host it for them.
This is because many people who are very popular are not necessarily good candidates. An ideal candidate would be someone who would actually have a chance of beating the Korean GSL participants.
Some people listed here are immensely popular from their BW days, but have not been really consistent in SC2. Others, on the other hand, are relatively unknown but are improving at an amazing rate (e.g. Kas who won the last TL Open).
So I vote for a fair and open qualifier.

Mmm ret i think most of us just forgot you. Because we all think you will keep the spot in code A. But you deserve a spot in code S not in code A
I agree it is also stupid to give a spot to a player that just goes to gsl and return back again. It is beter to give the spot to someone that is there for a long period.

I think that is exactly their intention. They are giving out Code A spots so that foreign players coming to Korea have at least a little security.

If someone doesn't even try to qualify, does that automatically make him better than the guy who attempted to qualify and failed?
I don't think so. If anything, it makes him even more of a wildcard. Why should he deserve the spot then?
Liquid guys have been there longest, Liquid is the most powerful foreign team (by some margin), their members in Korea live in a pro team house and it is veeeery unlikely any foreigner who hasn't even been to Korea yet or played a single game against their top players is more qualified to play in Code A than Ret, Huk and Haypro.
