Even though I don't necessarily think your tone is the best, I do agree with most of the suggestions and have often thought that bnet 2.0 should have lived up to his name and have atleast some of those.
Things like: - Joining replays together and in-game sharing them should be in that - reconnect for custom games (mainly for tournaments) should be no problem (I mean, HoN has that even, no reason bnet 2.0 shouldn't be able to) - not having to 8x through a replay before being able to freely skip through it (I mean, wtf it's almost 2011) - when you join a custom game it automatically starts a 30 second countdown. No chance for both players to say ready and not waste half a minute every time. Also, when the other player doesn't wanna play me and leaves, the countdown doesn't abort (????) and I have to either wait for the game to start, load, and leave. Or exit Starcraft. Things like this show it needs a little more polish for sure. - Like you said, it is no problem to have 20 ladder ranks with each of your 20 2v2 buddies, but one 1v1 rank for each race-option is not possible. If I am 3k diamond zerg, it sure as hell discourages me from off racing when I am maybe a 1k diamond toss and also doesn't make any sense to play my 3k diamond opponents... - One feature I would love, but will probably never happen. (Here it diverges from the list of things that bnet really should have had at launch, to wishlist thinking) The ability to jump into any replay. As addition being able to host a replay and watch it together, it would be so awesome to jump into the player's seat at any chosen time and play the game out from that moment on. It would also make setting up practise scenarios way easier. Like in chess, where you would practise your game from somewhere mid-game e.g. and explore the different possible outcomes. I mean, Starcraft gets often refered to as chess on speed, this aspect would only embrase the competitive and sportlike aspect of it.
I hope people keep bugging Blizzard atleast with the most basic of these things constantly, I do think they wanna do good. With the money they make, there should be no reason to not get some people on it. Also, if you adheared to some "hip" CEO that said "arrr, these darn kids like that facebook thingy, integrate it... there should be no reason to not make replays shareable ingame, if you are soooo into the social aspect of it..."

Your suggestions are for the most part correct.. the problem is we have heard this time and time again.. people have made countless posts on countless threads in countless forums begging for the same changes.
Blizzard has said for the most part it takes feedback from pro gamers, ladder statistics and inhouse game testing.. They are not going to make a decision based on forum posts; i like the idea of community action but i think in this case it may be more about who you know .. we need the right people to be saying the same thing.. not just any kind of people..

I definitely agree with you, Donttazemebro, and think most people will about the replay speed. As for being able to stop a replay and play from that point on, that's actually very easy to do. Replays work by storing actions each from and running a simulation with those actions. The popular Snes9x emulator does the exact same thing for their replays (it's actually a video file that consists of saved actions per frame), and you can stop playing the video and play from any moment there on. I'll make note of that in my OP, but with a suggestive tone like you have, rather than a more demanding one.
Just be sure to post your thoughts into the Blizzard forums as well, or it defeats the purpose of this thread

If anyone knows how to resolve that that'd be awesome, coz google answers didn't tell me anything yet, not even the one from the battle.net forums with an official blue response. edit: Apparently I need a US account to rate a comment on the US forums. EU forums work just fine. Sorry OP. You can quote my post and link to it in the EU forums

Blizzard is already aware of most of these issues. Their decisions just happen to not be based exclusively on the number of people posting these things, nor are they influenced so easily by popular opinion. Which is exactly the way it's supposed to be.
As much as I agree with nearly all the suggestions posted, I really don't want to contribute to this mass hysteria that is making me dislike SC2 community and feel nostalgic for BW more every day.
All these points have already been made a number of times, I don't see any need or reason to do it again.
|
I agree with all those points but I'm not sure Blizzard really care at all.
|
This is just one more try. But well you have my support.
|
About the idea of playing at a certain point in a replay: I have no idea if replays actually work like that. I know they probably should, but a replay is not directly a game, or else it would be impossible to rewind. I have no idea if that would be implementable.
Most of the other stuff has said that Blizzard is "working on it." So wait a year or two and maybe we'll see it. But Blizzard is aware of these things.
|
you made a lot of great points and they are all things that the community has stated over and over again and all we can do is hope that blizzard will eventually be able to implement them. i really hope they do listen all of these things because they are things i want to see in the game

Yes, remember the no name change issue? There were 80 pages of it which mostly consist of posts like "I agree" or "change it now Blizzard" and that worked and was allowed. However that did consist of a few random complaint posts which made it not look like a "I sign" petition thread.
For those joining in or supporting any feedback threads, you should probably throw in some few constructive or at least what looks like constructive non-spam replies in there too, so it doesn't totally look like a simple "I sign petition" thread.

I like the replay part.... xD i cant even share a replay with my friends now...

The fact that nothing has been changed means that Blizzard either doesn't care, or they disagree (don't know which is worse).
I don't see how you're going to succeed where everyone else over the last year failed. stop being so pessimistic. Atleast its something to help the course along. If we just sit on our arses doing nothing, well then nothing will happen
Excellent suggestions OP, and I fully support your post

If you say that you NEED something, you have to follow up with Rationale A, B, and C. You are just explaining something that you want and you don't really support it. Even to a competitive gamer as myself, this isn't written in a compelling manner at all.
agreed, I'm also worried that buried in a 123 page post, blizzard wont even look at it.(not that they look at new posts either)
everyone make sure you Thumbs up his post.

My suggestion is to add two separate matchmaking systems, one that is ranked on a ladder and one that is unranked. This seems like a pointless implementation, If you want to practice new and weird strategies (without effecting your rank) you can join a custom game.
It's extremely annoying to be in a match while having to message someone in particular. Brood War used the irc-esque functionality where you could type /w NAME MSG. This would be really useful if the current /r command would reply to the last person you whispered to using the /w NAME MSG command. This way in order to engage in discussion with a specific person, you only have to use /w NAME MSG and then have all subsequent messages begin with /r.
Since character codes are what differentiate one player from another, this might be impossible unless the format string for the whisper command were to include a player's character code: /w NAME.CHARACTERCODE MSG. You seem unaware of chat commands already implemented in the game, they suite the above purposes quite well. If you are in-game and a friend gets online, and for some reason you have to talk to them right that second, you can click on box that informs you that they are online, and that will open the in-game chat bar and allow you to talk to that person.

Need the replay share feature really bad, its vital even. For reviews of 2v2 games, show casing 1v1 games, and discussing them, specially practice games.. and even sharing intresting games with friends, without having to UL/DL

I agree. Any attempt whether it seems too futile, too early, too late etc. won't hurt anyone. Feedback is always accepted. To people to think that it is too late to give feedback or too many people have tried it, consider whether you truly care about the game. If I like the game, I would keep giving feedback and criticism because I would want to make it better. But that's just me.
@Cecil: PROSE
Bold and give small subheadings to summarize points. Stuff like bolding 'hosting a lobby' is useful for a reader.
Try and give testimonials or support from communities. Linking to other threads or having quotes from others helps out a lot. Your intention is to create a common community feedback. Right now it looks like it is just your strong opinion. Give more evidence that the whole community feels that way.
You have more or less done a good job avoiding so much of the 'I' usage and made it seemed the Blizzard did a good job, but to FURTHER IMPROVE they need to do this, and this and this. However, specifically in the last paragraph of "Matchmaking/Ladder", you go on the attack and are completely informal. It is way too informal. Word it better:
Whatever. Yeah, developing video games is about making money, but you have to appeal to both a broad audience and support your high tier players as well. I honestly think the whole division idea pissed everyone off much more than it did to make money or feign player progression.
You can say the division system is alienating your audiences specifically the competitive community. You can improve experience if you had this.

You say that maps made by Blizzard are completely crap and state Desert Oasis is bad. There are quite a few people who would disagree with Desert Oasis because it is so different you get different plays which is good. Also, quite a few people note that although the maps are of inferior quality they are awesome for newer players to get acquainted with the maps. You should rephrase and state we want bigger maps, less chokes etc. rather than just say your maps are bad. What makes the map bad? I don't know what you mean by that.
Link the map section to IcCup Diamond's thread while you are at it.
LAN is a bit complicated. I do want LAN, but then that creates a problem. As a few pros like Idra stated that they don't want just LAN at tournaments, they want LAN overall because if LAN is made on tournaments, then you need to be able to practice on LAN constantly. The micro demands are way different. Just wanted to point that out.
Can you point out Crossrealm play? The only way for people to play on other servers is to buy an account. You can implement something like 'If you want to play on Korean server, we will warn you and state that the ping could be bad'. Seems simple.
Custom game. You can't intuitively search on the custom game ladder for a game that you want. I can't sort the games I want to play. I can't search for a map easily enough. Please revise and improve the search system.
Lastly, as completely optional, not really needed at all so disregard if you want, but IMHO (humble), if Blizzard releases or 'fixes' any of these features, they don't need to do it altogether in a big package. Take a look at Google Chrome developers and other top notch developers. They always release improvements for a feature one at a time so it is more like a week for a new feature, rather than two months for a bunch of improvements. It is less headaches for the developer and for the user. The users can test out each feature as it comes out and give feedback. It is less stress on Blizzard Battle.net to fix each improvement.

You listed things Blizzard knows people have wanted from the beginning, since the beta. Some will come with time.

Everything has been said before.. yadda yadda. The fact of the matter is, there's a lot of key features that are simply ignored in BNet 2.0, key features that definitely make it seem unfinished. If this kind of work is what players simply "Accept" then blizzard has a lower standard to maintain for future games and we definitely can't stand for that. We don't want a half-assed unfinished lame attempt at creating a worthy successor to what is quite possibly the most revolutionary online interface to ever hit the market (BNet 1.0).
I say we help this guy out, worse thing that can happen is that blizzard doesn't do anything and the best thing that can happen is blizzard actually listens and responds maybe. So why not? Thumbsed up, good luck sir!
|
In my experience blizzard doesn't directly reply too much, although they do read and eventually respond in some way to people's request, it's one of the big qualities of blizz. I'd have some patience, wait for a couple of patches (next is coming soon) and see what's up, anyways, it's a good initiative, I just wouldn't expect a direct response from blues or anything, just hope they read it.
