i've played a lot of games of starcraft, and for the most part people have good manners. even if they don't respond to gl hf or don't gg at the end, i don't necessarily consider that BM. a little annoying, sure, but no big deal. what stands out to me are the aggressively bad mannered people, people who preemptively gg, tell you to leave the game, call you a noob, trash, etc etc. i know for a fact that some of these types of people post here (in fact a lot of them like to post their own bm as examples of their opponents' bm haha), and they can be found from bronze to grandmaster. so, BM people, i'm truly curious. what goes through your head? do you have that much to prove (to complete strangers)? i imagine some might respond, oh, it's just a game, i'm just trolling, don't take it so seriously. i agree that it is just a game, but i think that people generally play to have fun, and interacting with aggressive assholes generally detracts from that. so why do it? do you steal candy from children? kick puppies? do you hate yourselves and tout a useless skill as though it gives your life some validity? what motivates you to be an asshole on battle.net? TL;DR why bm?

And maybe marines look like zerglings to him? The funny thing is that if Terran makes it seem like PvZ... doesn't it mean he has only 2 matchups? PvP and PvZ.

I just played a TvT on Korhal city and I'm trying funky things out vs Z and vs P so I've been using the Guest account to play so I don't get insta-smashed. Just played my 2nd placement match for it and I got this: So basically the game goes like this: - He goes 1 rax FE and I go 1 rax reaper FE. He keeps his 2nd orbital in his main for a long time and makes 3 bunkers because he's super scared of my reapers I presume. - I kill 3 marines and 3 SCVs regardless, but nothing major. Game goes on and we both macro up till the 13 minute mark or so. He moves out 35~ supply down with basically pure marines and 2 tanks and 16 SCVs (?). Follows my scouting hellions and attacks into tanks and loses everything in 2 seconds. + Show Spoiler + + Show Spoiler + I'm mostly just curious what kind of cheats he thought I was using so I asked and he just seems very upset that I even bothered asking :/ Yeah, I played a guy who randomly accused me of maphacking like 5:00 into a game. Needless to say he did a 3rax stim expand(?????) into 4port banshee, and executed it all so terribly that my 1g FE into 3g pressure killed him. He accused me of maphacking ~20 seconds after I snuck a zealot by his army (I took the logical path; shortest distance to the CC) to see his expansion timing. I don't know, ladder is fucking crazy. edit: this is me offracing as toss in platinum at the time

TL;DR why bm? As a regular "bm'er" myself I can tell you that it is fun. Other reasons include confident boosts and/or what you do in game. I don't start the game with bm i usually do it in reaction to what they do or if i am cheesing. If im cannon rushing i will usually cuss them out and pause unpause to put them off, same with zealot vs zealot micro in a proxy 2 gate situation. If they do something i don;t like and i beat it i say EZ after winning such as marine scv rush. If you get rompd by me and dont GG out then i will tell you to leave. Because of this people just float their crap away, kind of annoying but still.. I think the main factor is that it is in a mockery of how hard this community generally tries to be perfect good mannered white knights. i dont say glhf at the start either, i just dont see point in it. I don't want my opponent to have luck and i doubt it's fun getting absolutely WRECKED by me ![]()

To me, people who always randomly insult strangers seem to have low confidence and self-esteem, as well as maturity issues. Everyone has their moments of frustrations where they might take it out on their opponent, I do occasionally, but if you usually do this and enjoy doing this then you're just immature, and I have no respect for you.

If you want to be a prick to people over a game because you don't have the balls to do it IRL, that's your choice. But you're not fooling anyone. Setting out to make someone you don't know to feel bad over the internet is a very special kind of pathetic.

You will give your 100% in a game if the opponent bm's you. If that's his thrill, i can imagine why he does that. And if my opponent bm's me it never actually hits me, so i don't really care. I do love an enjoyable conversation instead though, It really makes you believe there are still decent people on the Bnet server.

and as i said if i bm someone they will try their hardest to win because no one wants to get bm'd and then lose to the bm'er. So it gets me to also try my 100% best so that we will then be in a proper skill determining game. rather that just a regular ladder match. Sweat will break through skin, tears will fall down eyes, blood will spill from veins, there will only be one victor.

And I care enough to tell you that BMing someone, intentionally, maliciously, and unprovoked, is a fucked up thing to do, and if you end up on this thread, we're not laughing with you; we're laughing at you.

And how does saying "if you get rompd by me and dont gg out.....etc etc" mean i care what people think of me? where's the link to it? how exactly does making myself make someone else float their buildings away reflect on caring what people on an online forum think of me? you really need to scrounge up better evidence.

haha i was sort of drunk when i made that post about bming, but thanks for responding firemonkey. i feel like not understanding bmers is just an extension of not understanding a big (and fucking awful) part of human nature. although i'm more inclined to agree with shantastic, firemonkey, you can do what you want. i think it's pretty undeniable that you're an asshole though, whether it's a "joke" or not. and i find it pretty funny that you speak on behalf of all bmers, using "we" in your post. does bming make you feel like part of some larger community of gaping assholes? genuinely curious again, not trying to argue. edit: also, maybe it's just me, but i don't try harder when i get bmed, i usually will cheese or try to do something otherwise irritating rather than try to get a good game. why would i want to spend more time in a game with a shitty trashtalker than with a well-matched, appreciative opponent?
