Except perhaps the lucky people that are sponsored by huge companies. Many teams pay some salary~~

Many teams pay some salary~~ Keep in mind these are mostly the result of just a few months of winnings so it shouldn't be compared to an annual salary, next year's GSL may have even more prize money as well as MLG, IEM, etc.

As far as comparing to the salary, these are non-guaranteed money and I think we won't see a repeat winner of GSL for a while, so while it's a pretty hefty sum for playing sc2 for a month, it's probably about all they get throughout the year (we rarely see repeat top finishes and player pool only gets deeper).

So I put him Duckload "team" since that's his sponsor. Same can be said about SlayerSBoxer. He's not in any team, but his clan is SlayerS, so that's the tag he gets (and I don't really wanna get into Zenith, NEX clans and ZeNEX team, as well as Genius not being in either clan despite being in ZeNEX team since he recently founded NSP clan and his bnet ID reflects his clan, and not the team).

Korea's GPD is significantly lower than e.g America and hence while $90k seems decent in America, 90k in Korea is A CRAP LOAD Please don't make comments like this if you don't know what you're talking about. (In this case, living, working paying taxes in Korea or in the states). I'm assuming you mean GDP when you say "GPD"... which is not some kind of magic figure used to judge standard of living or in this case, I guess purchasing power. 90k is a decent amount of money by Korean standards. It is not a "CRAP LOAD". You make it seem like it would be the equivalent to winning the lottery. His point is still valid. 90k USD in Korea is significantly more spending power than 90k USD in the US. He's not claiming that it's a massive fortune. I would describe 3-4 years of average salary as a "CRAP LOAD" because that is a lot of money for my situation. "A CRAP LOAD" makes it seems like he is, indeed, claiming it to be some kind of small fortune. I agree that 90K, on average, will last you longer in Korea than it does in the States, but the difference is probably not very big. In anycase, I could use an extra 90K.. short on cash ![]() i must say i agree. Korea isn't really all that cheap. It really all depends on where you are living. Where I live in America the average salary is probably around 30K. For the small rural locations that 90K may be worth more but if you live in Seoul it is actually worth less. Cost Of Living As you can see it is ranked higher than any US city. My friend is from there and talked about how ridiculous the prices are. Tastosis also mentioned how you couldn't buy a nice house with that money. around here 100,000 starts to get you a decent house (nothing grand) so i wouldn't be surprised if they money matched up fairly well.
