Spoilers, obviously.
Champion: Kim Won Gi aka 'Cool' aka 'FruitVendor'
Q: How do you feel about winning your first championship ever? A:Every game I played to get here was tough. I thought that I would be nervous playing on the big stage, but I talked with Sung-jae hyung (IntoTheRainbow/HopeTorture) and we agreed to just play for fun. I'm happy to win.
Q: How much of your skill do you think you were able to show? A: I think I was able to show all of it. I was a bit nervous in the first game, but I was able to focus knowing my opponent would be nervous as well. I think I played 130% today.
Q: You said you had prepared a special strat for Desert Oasis, what was it? A: People don't use hydralisks much, so I was going to use them in game four and seven. However I started getting behind in the early game, and Sung-jae hyung started his harass very fast so my plans got messed up. Terran picked an economy heavy build, while I was spending too much gas, which didn't come together well for me. When my opponent starting dominating the game, I knew I was going to lose.
Q: You got off to a 3-0 lead, when did you think you had it wrapped up? A: I was very nervous at the beginning. If had kept playing like I had in game one, it would have been difficult for me, but starting from game two I was able to relax and play like I usually do. Then I thought I might be able to win today.
Q: Even though you won, Zerg is still considered to be underpowered. A: The other races have unique things they can try to do. They can do a variety of strats liek all-in, etc, but Zerg is stuck defending, defending, and defending some more. If you slip up while defending, you often end up in a dangerous situation. I think Zerg's lack of strategic options makes them a weaker race.
Q: So you think that Zerg still needs a buff, even after winning the tournament? A: It's shameless, I know, but I still think ZvP is hard (laughs). Since I beat a Terran in the finals, I'm confident against T, but I still think vsP is tough and needs some adjustments.
Q: Did the siege tank nerf in patch 1.1 help? A: I could barely win games before the patch day, winning 2~3 games out of 10 was very stressful. I found my touch after the patch, and I benefited a lot from it.
Q: What kind of help did your team TSL give you? A: First off I ate very well. I like to resolve my stress through eating, and I was able to resolve my Zerg stress very well. Being able to eat a lot was a big help (laughs).
Q: Season 2 prelims will start soon, what are your goals? A: I have the same initial goals as Season 1. Start with getting through the prelims, and then set your goal one step higher every time you advance. Since I was a progamer in the past, I had an easier time adjusting in Season 1 than the other players. But now a lot of the others have adapted as well, and a lot of ex-pros are coming to the game, so I think it will be an even playing field.
Q: You mentioned ex-progamers competing in Season II... A: I don't have many friends amongst currently active Brood War gamers. So I don't really know what the mood is over in that camp. The people I'm friendly with have already switched to SC II and are claiming SC II is the new mainstream, but I can't be sure since I don't know any present BW pros.
Q: Even though this was the very first tournament, a lot of spectators showed up. A: I thought that maybe 500 people would come because of the rain and all (note: Fomos reports 3500 showed up), but a ton of people came. So even before the game started, I looked at the crowd and thought "Wow!" I was grateful for the big turnout, and it psyched me up so I could play hard.
Q: Any final comments? A: A lot of my friends came to cheer for me today, thank you. Also, I was happy my parents came to watch. I've lived on my own since I was 20, and my parents never showed up to anything like this during my career as a gamer. But when they finally came to watch today, it really made me want to win. Thank you.

GSL for the win!, even though the final games were a dissapointment (one-sided), the entire tourney was well run and the atmosphere and coverage even better.
Can't wait to see more foreigners trying their luck in future seasons.

Fantastic, great interview. What a baller.

Very nice interview, thanks!

3500? Very nice. Great interview and I can't wait for GSL Season 2!

i bet people will read way to much into this
Thanks for the interview! Waxangel!!!!

interesting he thinks ZvP is the most imbalanced zerg match up.
|
season 2 will be so great with all the scbw programmer who switch over
|
Thankyou so much for translating this :D
It's interesting his comments about finding ZvP harder than ZvT. Then again he showed incredible gamesense in defending the attacks that came his way. Also his comments about Zerg having only defensive options are interesting as well, and perhaps on the money. But enough of that to avoid balance discussion.
The thing about his parents is sweet lol.

Thanks for the translation! CAn't wait for second GSL season.

I hate myself forever for falling asleep halfway through Game 1. Will battle reports and the like be up soon?

every interview makes me respect him more, and the sense of downplaying how incredible you are among many korean pro-gamers is refreshing

Wait, really? Top 16/8/4/2/1 arent seeded thru to the next Ro64? That seems a bit ridiculous.... Would be such a gaybar if fruit didnt qualify for the next GSL :\

I love this guy, he's such an awesome dude, and so humble. It's nice to see someone who isn't cocky.
I really hope we see more foreigners go further in future GSLs. I'd hate to see SC2 become the one-sided Korea fest that BW always was.
|
Congratulations to him!!! He deserves this title!!

Congrats Coool!!!!!!!!!!!!!!¨ If it werent such a horrible fucking laggfest i might have seen more than still pictures. Zergs hero!

impossible logistically unless they can manage to find an open space to fit that many people. (the stadium they used today maxes at 7000).

Mmm, Cool deserves this win. I think patch 1.1 really, really defined his win but I'm not trying to reduce his win in any sense of the word, but it's clear that he is an amazing Zerg.

So how does GSL actually work?
Ive read something like it having 3 GSL seasons, and then doing the GSL finals or something. So basically the 3 seasons are for the players to gain "points?" for a place at the final season. Is that right?
|
That's cute that hydralisks were his "special" strat ;D Can't wait to see him in the next GSL, most inspiring player of the tournament.
|
He is a BALLER and I LOVE him. People normally cheer for the underdogs and the race he played was one but he could have won the GSL with ANY RACE!!! I am so glad to see a FACE of SC2 and one that is such a nice guy with COOL personality. People like this will only ensure the success of SC2. I am so Happy today.

If I understand correctly, this and the next two 'GSL's' are just simply 'pre-season' tournaments in preparation for the full season in 2011 with all events proper. At the end of the year there will be some sort of competition I guess including all the best performing players of these three GSL pre-season tournaments.
|
Awesome event, great games and everything but I was really disappointed by GomTV, I had such an hard time making everything work.. the quality of the stream should have been HD, instead i got just a "decent" one, kinda like youtube on 480 or something... it was lagging heavily every once in a while and they don't offer any support for mac os which made it a pain in the ass to make it work
I hope they do something about it, and their support is horrible -.-

Man, Cool is the best. Lot of respect for the guy.
Not to go into the BW vs SC2 thing, but I hope the GSL catches up (not sure if 3500 is a lot of people) and SC2 has a bright future. Some of the games in this GSL were awesome and I'm really pumped for the next season.
|
He makes it sound as if ITR ever stood a chance, what a humble guy. Whether Z is balanced or not, there's no question about Fruitdealer playing at another level compared to any Z, P or T at the moment. I hadn't even watched many of his games but goddamn that guy knows his SC2.

Cool, A Fruit Dealer.
Hero of the Zerg.

Well first of all, this is in Korea
Secondly, this is the first Korean tournament ever and that's a huge fucking number. That's a big first leap, and how epic this tourny was I can only imagine that would double next season. This is great, and GomTV is really paving the way for Starcraft II. When I was watching the Ro32 and Ro16, I remember only seeing like 50 people max and I was just grimacing at how small this seemed. Then I see that there were 3500+ at the finals? This is great. Yeah, it's no 2005 100K people, but it's still 3.5k people and it's a great first step.
|
Here's to hoping enough people bought the season passes and will continue to do so for the next two, so that when the full 2011 season starts we get 1080p streaming.
Upon completion of this GSL, I know that 20 bucks is well worth it, even with the lower quality streams.
|
his family watching him for the first time and him using that as motivation is really cool. he deserves it.
|
Aww anyone else feel bad for Cool? His parents never supported him but now when they're set to gain $85,000 they turn up to the event? Also Cool's mom is straight away on the phone probably bragging about how she has all this money.
I dunno just think Cool should of kept like half the money for himself.
|
Unless we gonna see GomTV on actual TV I doubt it will grow much more... Let's hope it will happen but let's also hope they improve their quality otherwise they'll never make it

At least his parents will spend it on fruit to sell.
He would have wanted it that way.

Cool, my hero, you deserved it
GSL1 was overall awesome. Some weak players who made it through which was a bit lame, but next season should be incredible, and the season after that even more so with more foreign players hopefully joining

All his winnings from BW went to his parents, but now he might keep some for himself because its his first big payout for a Finals win in a tournament.

I hope thats true. I don't really know why and I'm probably completely wrong but his mom just didn't seem fully genuine....
It was just that comment in the interview, "Oh and he should give the money to us". Also her being on the phone at the end...

I'd withhold judgement on this unless we have an actual korean come along and help us understand whats going on. There's no accounting for culture, and 'never supported' / 'bragging about money' is pretty inflammatory.

Nice, Any idea when we might be able to get replay packs or anything from the tournament? Or are those not leaked ?
I will definitely be signing up for the next one (I didn't have time to watch more than 1 game per set until the semis anyways ...).

Well that's the impression she gave by firstly saying in the interview that he should give her all the prize money and secondly by going on the phone as soon as he won instead of maybe running up and hugging her son. When you add this to the fact she hasnt been to one of his gaming shows in the past 6 years I think my statements are warranted.
Admittedly, this may all be a misunderstanding and a korean will come and clear this up which would be more than welcomed by me. I can only interpret as much as I'm shown.

Not to claim I known Korean culture, but I see Mama and Papa Flash and Jaedong at every event.. so I don't think its so much a culture thing..

In asian cultures like (I'm Vietnamese) it's common that the kids take care of the parents.
I was raised by my parents and even though I wasn't told anything to take care of them it's just by our culture that we want to take care of our own parents thus we give them our money you could say as payback for their effort in raising us.
I worked an entire summer when I was 15 and earned about 1.5k euros and instead of using it I gave it all to my mom. She never forced me or subtly told me to do that.
Many asian people I know do the same.
It's just in our culture to take care of the elderly and usually it's strange for a child not to live with their parents which is common for Western cultures but not for Asian ones. Usually the last child to be in the house has to take care of the parents which usually is the youngest one but sometimes it can be different.
This is just how things are in my family but as far as I can tell it's the same for other asian countries.

Watching Cool play makes me realize there is one dimension of StarCraft that I completely ignore and have no clue about.
Winning a tournament of that level (and doing it convincingly) is no fluke. He has some sort of game sense or timing sense or something-that-I-can't-label that makes him make the right decision everytime. He has said several times that he doesn't practice as much and would rather have fun (heck, he even left oGs), calls his micro poor and that watching the other Zerg replays he can't really point out what's the difference between them.
I honestly don't know how he does the stuff he does. I also have no clue how to practice or get that quintessencial skill that he has shown.
|
Q: What kind of help did your team TSL give you? A: First off I ate very well. I like to resolve my stress through eating, and I was able to resolve my Zerg stress very well. Being able to eat a lot was a big help (laughs). I guess he needed the prize money out of hunger. So happy he won.

I think the explanation is years and years of starcraft experience, and a brain capable of learning to a greater degree than his opponents at present.

IMO the best part is that his parents game. I'm betting most progamer's parents aren't that supportive.

Watched the GSL replays on sc2rep and it really seemed to me that HopeTorture just played far worse, not even on same level as Fruit. In game 2, cliff drops a tank into a fast expand muta build? Why would you ever do this... he just turtles up and let's the zerg outmacro him, applying pretty much 0 pressure early on...
Do a standard MMM timing push with some early harass like any 1000+ diamond terran does and I can't help but feel that they would have performed better

Let's see what you're doing - calling a tournament winner's mother a gold digger when you have no evidence of this.
I'm sure there's plenty of people who think "screw the parents, just keep the money dude!", but that's a culturally ignorant thing to say. And even if the cultural divide wasn't there, don't presume to know the details of other people's lives. I know if my father died and my mother was supporting my family by selling fruit, I'd give that 80 grand to her too.

hope to see more korean pros in season 2.
|
Gotta love Cool... mostly because he plays Zerg... lol, jk
but seriously his performance should inspire some zerg players to stay their race because he played really well
About fans there: Even though Tasteless and Artosis kept saying "OMG ITS PACKED IN HERE!"... i thought there was like 10 to 20k people... but according to Fomos.. only 5k.. and by only i mean less than what i thought
great interview AND games overall... GGs.. GLHF in next GSLs

I still had no idea why he would go hydras. Desert oasis is a terrible map for hydras. YOu need mobile units on that map, and hydras is just immboile and not cost effecitve againts close to all terran units. I think he had won 4-0 if he had gone for normal muta first opening.
|
I believe the American culture has it backwards in that you are suppose to take care of your parents when they are old and gray. Running off on your own to make something of yourself is great but you still have to remember the ones who raised you and feed you. Yes, parents can be annoying but you still have to remember where you came from and return the favor that they did for you when you was young. Who will take care of your parents when they are 80 and can barely walk for themselves? Would you want your children to forget about you when you turn 80 and all your friends are dead?
|
GSL 1 was great! I am happy hat FruitDealer won even though i play terran. Hope foreigners will show their true power in GSL 2 ! TLO fighting.
|
I guess it's a cultural thing. As the vietnamese says. His parents probably took care and gave money to their parents and so on, so I guess they take care the opposite way as in western culture.

edit: nope the lag decieved me, I was just watching the vod and she said "it would be best if he gave all the money to me (this is where it lagged), so I can take care of it until he gets married" . So shes just taking care of it for him I guess.

I understand why they dont. Just look at Liveforever and some of the top 32 etc. Some of them where really horrible, and made it threw cause of randomness of prelims and their oppoenent in r64.

Dam, 3500 people for the biggest sc2 tournament is not alot at all. I guess it is a good start.

This only makes his feat even stronger, Fruit ftw!

I love his honesty, he seems like a great guy and I'm so happy he pulled it off! Even though it was a little anti-climactic with the stomping, still an enjoyable zerg win

Was wondering what's he going to do with all that money. Best of luck in season 2.

It is so retarded that there is no seeding, who's running this tournament? You want faces to popularizes your tournament, not random players every time. What if he doesn't qualify?

This isn't the GSL proper, as it were. That starts next year, with a full years worth of tournaments and competitions. The top 32 players from this years 3 tournaments will then be seeded, and then the next 64 players will have something, but I can't remember exactly how it works.
These are just preliminary tournaments to get things started ready for the proper year-long series which starts in January. Maybe they could seed from one to the next, but it's not really necessary. You would assume people who land in the top 4 would manage to get seeded in the top 32 overall ready for next year anyway.

He named himself fruitseller...so im sure he doesn't mind his family at alllllll lol

Thanks for the translation. I dont know about the English stream but on Korean stream they do show the crowd and it is HUGE. From now on, I'm gonna kill everybody who say that SC2 arent getting attention in Korea. Very well played by Cool....
On the seeding matter, I think no seeding untill 2011 is good. SC2 is so new, there are alot of raw potential players out there. GOM wants to give a chance to everybody. Remember that Boxer was just a mere unknown noob when SC1 was first play professional in Korea.
|
he deserved it so much in my opinion, he was clearly the most skilled player in the tournament. also his background was very touching (had to quit progaming in bw because of father got ill and help his mother selling fruits ).
|
thx for the translation. Great interview and a very nice Tournament winner.

Thanks for the translation and congrats Cool! A very nice attendee turnout too and hopefully it just gets bigger from there.

And the zerg messiah came unto us and a new race was born.
There is now Terran, Protoss, Zerg, and Fruitdealer. There is no way someone just playing zerg can do the things he does. The man is less of a player and more of an artist that uses zerg as his paint.
He deserves every little bit of his prize pool, and really a whole lot more. HopeTorture is an amazing amazing player, but Fruitdealer made him look like a 1400 Terran.

Nice interview. Thanks for the translation
|
Much like Moon in WC3...FruitVendor is the 4th Race.
|
That's pretty cool that Won Ki's parents decide to show up to support him
....on the biggest day of his career. Would've been much more touching had they kept supporting him throughout his career. Then again, those fruits won't sell themselves you know.
|
He did say that he hadn't even told his parents about the GSL before his semi-final round.
|
You know a reason why his parents never showed up to his games before, might be because he hasn't ever gotten to a semi-finals or finals of any BW leagues before? This is the first time that Cool's in an event that is ALL about him, and with a ton of money on the line. It's totally unfair to criticize his mom for that.
Q: How much of your skill do you think you were able to show? A: I think I was able to show all of it. I was a bit nervous in the first game, but I was able to focus knowing my opponent would be nervous as well. I think I played 130% today. No kidding.
|
It's SO much money... just split it with the parents and that's that. : )
|
I toast my apple to ye oh magnificent dealer of fruit. Huzzah! I hope to see much more fruit dealings in future GSLs.
|
I've read the entire thread and didn't notice anyone saying this so I'll point it out:
The reason why Cool's parents did not come beforehand was simply because Cool did not tell him he was playing. I'm pretty sure he states it in the Ro4 interview how he did not want to dissapoint them so he only called them up to tell them after he was already in line to win $26000.
So no, Cool's family is cool.
|
after not checking tl.net for a few days im really surprised to read that, but i like his play style and really think he deserves that even without having watched his games (ill definitely will change that asap)
congratulations!
|
It's actually tradition to give the entirety of your first paycheck to your parents out of respect. So Cool keeping any of it is NOT the norm in Korea.
And yes, the "caring and love" effect in Korea is definitely aimed backwards where the son/daughter honors his mother/father rather than in America where its mostly forwards.
Anyone ever think that Cool's mom is a busy woman, and she probably doesn't have time to come out to EVERY SINGLE ONE of his games? Maybe the fact that it was a finals game with so much money on the line took priority over her busy schedule? Can't really fault her for thinking like that. This is a great underdog story and you guys are turning it into some American deceit story.
Sometimes stories really are as good as they sound.
|

according to the interview, cool only told his parents about gsl after he got through to the final.
so.. can't blame the parents for not showing up earlier..
and i am bewildered by all these people who expressed unhappiness that cool wants/needs to give the paycheck to his parents. do you guys come from a society where filial piety is dead and that parents are burdens?

From the official rules: After all three tournaments, the top 32 will become "Code S" players. - 33rd-96th will become "Code A" players. - Code S players and Code A players earn the right to participate in the GSL 2011. - If a Code S player drops out before GSL 2011 starts, the top Code A player will fill the spot etc.
That means that the first three GSL seasons this year are just preliminaries to the real thing that will be coming next year, and that these preliminary seasons will be used to determine who will be able to participate in the real thing.
Everyone in the top 10 of GSL 1 is guaranteed a spot in GSL 2011 and have been designated Code S players, same thing goes for GSL 2 and GSL 3. Everyone in the top 32 of GSL 1 has been designated Code A players, these players are the first choice replacements if Code S players don't show up, same thing goes for GSL 2 and GSL 3.
Since FruitDealer is already a Code S player he would only be denying another player a spot for GSL 2011, thus it would seem fair to make him have to go through qualifiers.

What an absurd thought process. Sure I'm grateful for everything my parents did for me, but am I about to start giving them most of my salary? Unless they really need it, absolutely not. Most parents (hopefully) have kids because they want the joy and satisfaction that raising kids can have... they shouldn't expect kids to reimburse their own fucking expenses from when they could hardly walk.

85K goes a long way in Seoul, where the average wage is 30K a year.
|
The whole "reimburse your parents" stuff sounds pretty inadequate. If your parents lose their jobs and struggle to find new ones because they're too old, while you're making a skyhigh salary, you gonna tell them no sorry I've already paid back my share so I'm not gonna help you? And if it's the other way around and their income is way higher than yours for whatever reason (e.g. you've chosen a field that doesn't pay that well), you gonna eat ramen everyday and live a shitty life because you need to reimburse them money they don't need in the slightest? That's fucked up. Money should just go to the one(s) in need. Also, gratitude for being born is strange, it's how they treat you afterwards that counts, if my parents just produced me and then treated me like shit for my entire life you can be sure I wouldn't give them any more than the strict necessary for them to survive.

Since we're both from totally different cultures: May I ask why you just dont keep half of your earnings in the bank for later use? I personally dont see the benefit from giving it to your father for safekeeping. Or are you frightened to use it all up and dont have anything left over for later?
Is it just a cultural thing or has it a deeper meaning which I dont see?
On the mother topic: Ever thought the mother is calling the father / other family members? And why should she run on the stage to "hug" him? He's a grown man, even I would consider that awkward and strange. Even more so if you consider asian culture and "keeping face".
About Fruitdealer: Glad he won. He's seems to be a cool guy (pun intended). Hope he will bless us with his play in future GSLs

I dunno just think Cool should of kept like half the money for himself. I have this sentiment too, but how do you know he's giving all of the money to his parents? I'm pretty sure he doesn't say so in the interview. It's an Asian country, you can bet he does. I don't get why it's so hard to understand someone would give their prize money to their parents. Think about all the expenses your parents paid for you: free housing, free food, clothes, schooling, medical bills, entertainment. Then add in whatever you think is fair for, you know, giving you your life. Is 80k really that much? And by the way, that's a lot of assumptions you made there, based solely on the fact that he's asian. 80k is a ton of money, what are you talking about? If you think it only takes 80k to raise a kid then lol. A quick google search put the cost of a child for a $40-$70k income family at $180k do you realise how far $85,000 goes in Korea? Not that far. This isn't SE Asia. Hopefully he doesn't live in Seoul, one of the most expensive cities in the world. How does Seoul compare to New York city (afaik the most expensive city in the US) in terms of costs of living?
uhhh lol @ epik640x. Seoul is definitely NOT one of the most expensive cities in the world. heres a link to April 2009 cost of living rankings for cities: http://seoulwalk.com/2009/07/28/cost-of-living-international-rankings-for-1-april-2009/
Seoul is chillin at #163. New York is at #19
Oh and @ Ocedic, I don't like or agree with your philosophy. So a child of an abusive alcoholic father owes him just because he decided to get drunk one night and mess around with another drunk slut? The father gave him life right? Cool's parents didnt acknowledge his passion about pro gaming until there was an $85,000 prize on the line, so he's somehow obligated to give them some of that prize money for all the support he received?
Also, all of those expenses you listed are obligatory by the parents. You never asked to be born and it sure as hell wasnt your fault that you werent born with the ability to hold down a 9 to 5 and provide for yourself. And the way you put it, its like having a kid is some very long term investment. You know, put deposit all those expenses like clothes, food, school, etc. along with a nice semen sample and egg, and after 30 years of appreciation he might pay you back! Messed up man..

I honestly think mothers of korea are not the same as we are used to in the west. If someone picture a western mom, a worn out, angry/bitter feminist might pop up, or a single mom sitting at cafe smoking cigarettes. I think it pretty safe to say there is a unbalance in western families today, only a minority are lucky enough to have balanced parents that might also still live together.
So dont get surprised when people are responding very defensive in favours of Cool, when it comes to his distribution of his money. I hope and think his mother are a good person thinking the best of his interest.
Loved what Cool said in the interview, spot on everything, he truly played 130%

Don't worry about the culture difference. My mom thinks some Westerners are greedy gold-diggers too.
|
I'm Chinese, and I don't think that Chinese parents really care about the money (though they do care), it's more that they want to feel successful by having their children be successful (getting rich, being famous, starting family, whatever); that's why they push so hard for a 'good' education and all that. It's kind of a depressing way to live, but at this point I can't really bring myself to argue the point any more.
|
There might have been only 3500 people in the stadium but I want to know how many foreign paid accounts there were and how many local Korean streams were running.
|
Cool's parents thought he was making a poor life choice spending so much time gaming. They probably thought his time was better spent on more traditional focuses. I'm betting they are happily surprised that they were wrong. I don't think there's anything to terrible about their actions and I don't think they're gold digging. Alluding to any similarity between them and an alcoholic father that had sex with a drunk slut one night is horribly out of line.
|
well my dad actually told me i was an investment to him. i think a lot of parents look at it like that.
|
Does FruitDealer's family actually sell fruit?
His parents never supported his progaming dream. Kinda harsh, but understandable. Cool never made it big till today. In comparison, IntoTheRainbow is a much bigger name. Up to this point, there has been no reason for the parents to support an empty dream and uncertain career.
Heck, being a progamer isn't much of a career.

not the first time a gamers parents have been accused of being a gold-digger by random foreigner who doesn't understand the asian culture or anything at all about the relations between the player and their parents..
was it Jaedong's parents that was accused last time or was it flash? can't really remember..
seriously, what the hell? not even the first 4 placers are seeded for the next GSL? would really suck monekyballs if top caliber players doesn't even make it through prelimnaries because of bad luck in brackets and let some random guy into the top 64 : /

His mother Kinda said that She would be keeping his money safe till he gets married in the interview.
I dunno what"s the big Deal , If he wants to give the money then let it be.You don"t necessarily know that just because his parents never came to the event they never supported him?
|
Plus I can see how hard it was for his parents to see him choose an erratic life as a programmer where you either win or you don"t. Being a Fruit Dealer isn"t easy you know.
|
Thanks for the translation.
Anyway, this championship was so well deserved. Cool had the un-matched skill and touching story coming into this gsl. His games have inspired me the same way Savior did in bw <3!

My mom would be horrified if I even mention the idea of giving her money. Anyway, I think Cool's mom just wanted to keep the money until he's married (to prevent him from going in a speeding spree maybe).
More on the topic: FruitDealer is such a great winner for this GSL, the guy is very friendly and has played so well. I hope we see plenty more of him in the futur. GO FruitDealer.

If Cool wasn't in his booth, he could have heard me yell "EPIIIC" every ten seconds all the way from France !
Mom, when I grow up, i wanna be a fruit dealer !
|
Would have like to see that hydra strat
Being Asian myself, I can relate to the money issue. I think there is a confusion with westerners regarding the money. Even though Cool gave all his money to his parents, it's still his or specifically belonging to the family including him & his parents. One person's success in the family is everyone's success. I hope that clears up the money issue.

I'm soooo lookin forward to next season though, I bet the ro64 S2 is like ro32 S1, ro32 S2 like ro16 s1, etc etc (in terms of game quality). I have high hopes for a lot more epic games in S2

great interview.. great answers. I am a fan now.

fruitdealer being zerg and his story always makes him a sentimental favorite. i wonder how he will fare in the upcoming gsl against those old school bw'ers
|
[B] Q: So you think that Zerg still needs a buff, even after winning the tournament? A: It's shameless, I know, but I still think ZvP is hard (laughs). Since I beat a Terran in the finals, I'm confident against T, but I still think vsP is tough and needs some adjustments.
At least he knows...

It doesn't matter how far it goes, the amount of time, energy and love your parents poured into you is worth much much more than 85k

Uh. Korea isn't some third world country. $85K in Korea spends like $60-70K in terms of actual buying power than $85K in US.
You live in Seoul, world's 3rd largest cosmopolitan metropolis (tied for NYC), $60K spends like nothing.

Easily my favorite zerg after this tournament. He's so easy to root for. Humble, skillful, awesome ID. He also prevent an all Terran final 4.
