Current Episode(s)
Technical difficulties kind of gets us down, so it's a short one this week (ironically, with our cast,) but the gang piles out of a clown-car and get's some good discuss going about the Code S finals and the state of TvT, the supposed Neural Parasite changes, gosh-blasted Ghosts, and touch on the start of the Collegiate Star League 2011/2012 season! Sorry about the audio quality this week; everyone seemed to be having connection issues, and it doesn't help Jungho was calling from Korea!
We didn't mention on the cast, but LojiQaen and I will be commentating BCIT's matches live each week, so come tune-in for some Masters-level play! This week's match is 1PM PDT on Saturday (September 17th,) and I'll update the Twitter when we go live.

Regardless, we talk about Foreigners in Korea and if we may see more of them move to Korean teams, such as Fenix. We're back on track -- I know, I know, we said that last time -- and ready to pump-out some podcasts and work hard in the Starcraft community, because the new school year is about to start, and what better time, right? Yay, distractions! Today I'm down one cSOanemone and one FireZerg, but up one Adrian "Menkt" Fakstorp and one James "CanucksJC" Choi (of Team Liquid fame) to talk about the recent MLG Anaheim tournament and the Canadians in attendance -- dead hookers at Zaby's Motor Lodge coverage included! -- tournaments and community developments the podcast has missed in it's down time, and local tournaments these two are helping organize. Next week we plan to have one or both of these fine fellows -- who are great for a discussion -- on again next week to talk about the up-coming cG Invitational taking place, only with a full house hopefully, so stay-tuned for that, too. Complexity's Ryze and Grand-Master Gilmish, from Ontario and Manitoba, respectively, join us today to talk a lot about cheese: local tournaments, online tournaments, everywhere. Ok, so it's not all about cheese, but the CombatEX discussion goes on way too long. Mostly because of me. What? He's fun to talk about. Also discussed is the tQ tournament, a touch on the TSL Round-of-8, the Collegiate Star League, Blue Razzleberry soda -- a Baneling Bust on your tastebuds™ -- and, of course, event listings for Canada -- now including the East Coast! Yay! Last, but certainly not least, the Quick-fire segments returns, but we're really bad at it, as usual. Best enjoyed with Blue Razzleberry™ soda! One last note: I'll be twitter-updating the status of the podcast from now on, since I don't use Twitter for anything else. I might link to some stupid internet crap, too, so start following http://www.twitter.com/CedstickeSportsCanada Podcast: Episode 8: Cheese Edition+ Show Spoiler [Blue Razzleberry] +Check the eSportsCanada.net post for more info, including show notes and links! + Show Spoiler [Episode 7] +We return from the wild, savages all, vile and uncouth, spreading nothing, but hate. We heard hating on people got you hits, so we pretty much spun a wheel, picked some people, and hated on them. Also included is a terrible re-cap of all major tournaments world-wide, some random shout-outs -- because I like to do that, apparently -- a few up-coming tournaments in the Vancouver area, and no structure whatsoever. I swear to you, it'll be better next episode. Promise. PROMISE. It was just so damn unorganized and chaotic, I thought I'd preserve the essence. The Meta-Game: Episode 7: Hate Edition + Show Spoiler [Episode 6] +We're back in the first of a slew of podcasts before the holidays, including mid-week -- see: weekend -- mini-cast on patch 1.2. For now, though, we bring Edwin "kOre" Jung on to discuss his international Starcraft Pro-Gaming merchandiser, Starcraft Mecca (dot net!) We start with a rap-up of the Canadian Cup, go over some of the GomTV Star League Round-of-8 games, get the low-down on Pro Starcraft apparel, and introduce one of a few new segments currently in the works, the Hot Seat! It failed this episode, but hilariously so, so it's not all bad. Last, but certainly not least, we pay a small tribute to a local hero, sadly decided to retire. The Meta-Game: Episode 6! + Show Spoiler [Episodes 5] +Wooooooooooow is this late. After Finals, three illnesses in four weeks, a website hack and a hard drive crash, I gotta' admit, I kinda wanted a break. Not sayin' editing a podcast is extremely hard stuff, but my head was... kinda' full. It doesn't matter, though, because now it's up and we're getting back on track! We discuss many things, like our bad-ass new theme, the Canadian West vs East Grudge Match results, kind of the GSL up to, but not spoiling the Semi-Finals, and last, but certainly not least, The Canadian Cup, it's past, present and future with the L2SC.net guys, guesting in this week's episode. Shenanigans abound as well, as you might have guessed by now. That said, click the Male-Order Bride to listen to the podcast! ![[image loading]](http://esportscanada.net/images/FireZerg.JPG) + Show Spoiler [Episodes 4a and 4b] +Episode 4! Another late podcast, but I was sick and tired, and Sam being sick as well put us on hold for a bit. As compensation for your patience, though, you get a B-side of this podcast, which I'll be putting up in a few days. This week we take some time discussing the recent tournaments, such as the Round-of-64 of the GomTV Star League Season 2 — if we’re calling them seasons — MLG in DC and Blizzcon. Also discussed are some of the Blizzcon announcements, Patch 1.1.2 and how we’re liking it, and radio voices — something not all of us were born with, apparently. Last, but definitely not least: tree bark. Smoke-able, smoke-able tree bark. Due to lack of time and health this podcast wasn't edited much except for a little audio cleaning -- there was a recording problem -- and the customary musical cuts. Enjoy the rambling Meandercast! The Meta-Game: Episode 4!Episode 4 B-sideCheck the eSportsCanada.net post for more info, including show notes! + Show Spoiler [Episode 3] +It's the Meta-Game, back from the dead -- or maybe having just missed a week. We totally make-up for the missed time, though, with four eager members ready to talk our hearts out about Starcraft. Heading the podcast today we have the usual Cedric "Cedstick" Cook and Kevin "SCAnemone" Kinney, with our new regular, the one, the only, Sam "FireZerg" Prowse. Joining us half-way through is this week's guest, soon-to-be co-commentator with Kevin, Nick "Carefoot" Carefoot, who ups the podcast rating a notch to PG-16. We take over an hour and fifteen minutes to wrap-up the last two weeks, and man, is there ever a lot to wrap-up! Today we discuss -- deep breath -- the Patch 1.2 ideas, the Starcraft Against Disease LAN, lame-ass GGs, everything you ever wanted to know about L2SC and the impending popularization of North American eSports (we hope!), the end of GSL Season One, the impending GSL Season Two, including it's qualifiers, colour commentating, Nick's body-parts (oh, dear), and much, much more. The Meta-Game: Episode 3 + Show Spoiler [Episode 2] +Oh my god, it's The Meta-Game for September 28th, posted early the next morning! What's the date? Don't ask me, 'cause apparently I don't know! I digress. We have our first third chair and guest on this episode, none other than MyRevenge's newest team member, FireZerg, AKA Sam Prowse -- who has stated that he'd love to be a regular member, so make sure to let him know you want him back on! We discuss, par for the course, the GSL, as well as Team Liquid's second TL Open tournament, the impending S.A.D. charity tournament again, Patch 1.2's announcement, the Collegiate Star League and then grill FireZerg about what he's been up to, and his plans for competitive Starcraft in the near future. We close with the most random five to ten minutes ofbanter you will ever hear. Ever wanted to go to school to eat produce and talk to a farmer about Starcraft? You may have your chance! Tune-in for our longest podcast yet at a good fifty-five minutes. The Meta-Game: Episode 2: The Meta-Game is a Totally Legit Name, Why Haters Gotta Hate? This episode goes out to our "biggest fan": yes, we will make more, <em>just for you!</em> There ya go. Artificial Sunlight, the song used at the start, can be found here with an MP3 download available. The Meta-Game Podcast: Episode 1With our official debut — none of that pilot stuff — we discuss the imminent Patch 1.1.0, the Starcraft Against Disease charity tournament in Richmond, BC, Canada (which you should totally check-out if you can), the GSL Round-of-32, how to deal with Protoss-versus-Protoss cheese, using your in-game map-hacks as Zerg (el oh el) and what to expect on future episodes of the show. Also, I apologize for the lateness of the episode; I will likely be moving the show to a Monday or Tuesday posting to make sure we can get the best quality out in relation to both our schedules. Check the eSportsCanada.net post for more info, including show notes! + Show Spoiler [Episode Zero - The Pilot Episode] +Today, September 13th, 2010, we happily debut our pilot podcast, wherein we discuss our website plans, the GOMTV Star League Round-of-64 advancing players (spoilers!), Blizzard's tentative patch notes for the coming 1.1 balance patch, and balancing your larvae production as Zerg. The Meta-Game: Episode Zero Pilot!I hope you guys like what you hear, and I encourage you speak-up and provide some feedback! And, yes, I realize he's the game-brain behind the show, and that's why I have him talk more on the strategy segment at the end. I'm more of the community guy. Also, there will be less pauses in the future -- I've been up since yesterday, but we had the free time and wanted to squeeze our first episode in tonight as we've been waiting eagerly for over a week to get it done.

Love podcasts, I'll subscribe.

Thank you :D I'm hyped it went as smoothly as it did, despite my fatigue pronouncing more than a couple "ums." Still better than Tasteless, though :D lolz. I'll have a good night's rest for the next podcast, so it should flow more smoothly.
*EDIT* Oh, and as we said in the podcast, we'd love for some input from listeners, such as the requested non-expo hatchery play, but also topical feedback -- we'd love to answer a few questions and discuss with you guys out there.
Last but not least, I have a few musicians who have generously let me use their music for my projects, so I'll be using some of their music as intros, outros, and if needed, breaks from here-on. Not just body-less voices! Yay!

you're going to get a lot of heat for misusing meta game. but... hope your podcasts go well?

Love podcast's, and have been looking for more too listen to while at work. Your podcast seemed pretty good, has alot of potential too be a great podcast. One of the best among Weapon of Choice, The Creep, State of the Game, and The Elitist's. Could you please upload it too iTunes though? Thanks :D

AcrossFiveJulys, I believe I used the term properly The meta-game is the shift in popular strategy and common reactions to such as players disect a match-up and it's subtleties. This is one thing we discuss every episode during the last segment of the show (see: larvae management.) Thank you for the well-wishes!
Barett, I do intend on doing that! Not this very night, as I've never done any o' that RSS stuff, and I'm pretty tired -- I'll figure it out tomorrow. Thank you very much for putting us up as a potential against these other establishments! Really makes me want to bust my ass on these projects.

Another Canadian podcast about SC2? This warms my heart. I will check it out.

4/5 responses are from canada lol. Ill give the podcast a try

I think you guys need a script, or to be in tune with each other if you are going for the impromptu route
"this is what you are going to cover" "have you been following gomtv" "no..."
and prejudice should be left at the door, openly mentioning hatred of a player isnt too professional

I listened to this and I'd definitely listen to more.

I knew you'd make an appearance eventually :D seriously, metagame is a term that is so rarely correct to use, the general population would do well to forget it exists.
|
Heh...I've stayed out of the debate around the term "metagame" but the thing is, if the majority of people start using the word to mean something different from what you think the "correct" meaning is, the meaning changes.
Unless you want to go back somehow to some "original" version of English where a large number of the words we use today have meanings that are wildly different from how they were originally used...

So are we redefining "meta," or "game?"

It's similar to the widespread misuse of the word "push" nowadays. A push used to refer to terran tank pushes, where you would literally push back your opponent to take map control. Now, people (including famous casters) tend to say push when they mean any kind of attack. I cringe every time I hear it misused, but I'm slowly getting used to it.
|
K so a lot of people are claiming the OP's definition of metagame is wrong, how about instead of just saying "lol u wrong" you give the "correct" definition?
|
|
Actually, I believe I'm using the term correctly, as the reason I came up with name is because our focus would be the players and community around the game and the thinking behind it. Of course we directly discuss strategy and current game concepts, but a lot of what we will be talking about is players mindsets behind certain match-ups or strategies and how that actually affects the strategies, as well as reflection on, say, tournament results -- what made then decide to use the odd strategy they did?
I was simply defining the more direct application of the term to some of our... well, more direct content.
Oh, and it's a cool name. Hatas' gon' hate! Hahaha.
Thanks for the feedback, guys!
|
I had this same discussion on day9's IRC just yesterday, and my argument is that things are "metagame" when they are decisions made within the current match based out knowledge about things outside that match, not outside Starcraft as a whole. Meaning "outside" knowledge of popular builds or tricks or even the opponent's general playstyle as discovered through watching old replays.
Meta in this case is using the adjective definition as a standalone word "(informal) Self-referential; at a higher level" instead of the prefix definition "transcending, encompassing" or "Pertaining to a level above or beyond" (all from Wiktionary).
Now I'm the sort that dislikes misuse of terms ("impact" used as a verb when they really should use "affect"), but I'm all for the evolution of English and I can't think of an easier or more accurate term for what they're referring to in gaming.
|
Listened for a bit but was having trouble understanding you. Maybe it's just me but sounded like too much bass and not enough midrange
|
I will make a podcast about your podcast and my podcast will be about how you use the prefix meta in your podcast title and also more generally about the prefix.
it will be called the meta-game meta-podcast on meta-.

@Mastermind -- I'm trying to guess who you are, but I can only think of Kodokan
|
By this definition the OP is correct.
Example of metagaming: Players all agree that unit A is too strong. Many players are winning games by only making A. To react, opponents have been rushing for unit B, which is a counter to A. Knowing this, a player has developed a build which is weak against everything but a rush to B. Why is this metagaming? The rules state the statistics of the units; however, they make no comment on which are overpowered or what should be the standard strategy. By taking information from outside the game, this player is affecting the outcome of the game with information from outside of the ruleset.
|
Can't we all just accept that it's a cool name for a podcast? We're dudes, away from the game, talking about it. Meta-Game, bitches! looooooool. But thanks, Half <3

Meta came into use with Aristotle. The word simply means "after" in greek.
Aristotle wrote a book called Physics, then he wrote another work called Metaphysics (which simply means after-physics. This was the first major work of the branch of philosophy with the same name. The principal subject is "being qua being", or being understood as being. It examines what can be asserted about anything that exists just because of its existence and not because of any special qualities it has.

I'm with op and I consider trends in strategy metagame. If you're playing someone known to cheese I'd be scouting nonstop and even altering my build slightly to the safer side to deal with it. If I'm playing someone not known to cheese I'd be trying to get away with as much econ as possible. In both cases I would be deviating from my standard ladder play against an unknown. Right after a day9 fun day monday I'm even a little weary of whatever crazy stuff is up for next week.

Now that you mention that, guitarizt, it's really weird to think just how much Day9 can affect the online experience, at least in North America. Think about how many people watch him. *shudders* he could engineer some devious shit if he wanted to.

I was thinking a bit more game-related, but thanks for the heads-up. I've got Undercover watching your house, now ;D
Another thing on the podcast: Kevin and I have been actively thinking about not interupting other speakers, and to make sure we do our best we've developed a chat-based system on deciding speaking turns and segues. The year 2010: we've discovered internet chat! lol

Episode 2 was the best because it was good having a 3rd person there, you and your friend SCanemone both have similar tones in your voice, which can get slightly dull after awhile (slightly, but I still found your topics and opinions overall enjoyable). The only negative is your friends opinions, example: like Desert Oasis being a good map (i think he said that), I literally LOL'd out loud and my boss kinda threw a sideways look.
But overall I liked it, and will definately look to download more!
1) have more vibrant personalities (i.e. Day9, incontrol ect but not necessarily those two)
2) your friends opinions (i think the only ones I didnt like were in the pilot) were a little tough to listen too.
Hope to hear more!!!

Any new episodes coming soon?

We just recorded. Huge cast this time, though it gets a little jumbly as we have our fourth chair come in during the middle of recording. Hyped to get this edited and up, though, as we really made-up for missing last weeks. Tons to cover, and it's about an hour and twenty minutes long! I'll have it up tomorrow afternoon.
Also, I'll be getting video footage up tonight, if a little late, like 1am. I will be giving daily updates on news and in terms of video/photo/audio media now, though, so check the website regularly
|
Its been a great podcast thus far, and im happy you are going to keep getting up more content. As long as The Meta-game keeps running, it will have space on my iPod! <3
|
Episode Three is up! They're getting longer, this one clocking-in at just over an hour and fifteen minutes.
|
I haven't even listened to it but I'll be damned if I'm not awesome. Me and SCE are going to the WTF Lan this Saturday in Calgary so expect us to talk about how we battle for first place. Cedstick is awesome and I friggin' love the cast thus far.
Metagaming is a broad term usually used to define any strategy, action or method used in a game which transcends a prescribed ruleset, uses external factors to affect the game, or goes beyond the supposed limits or environment set by the game. Like a podcast about Starcraft ♥
Another definition refers to the game universe outside of the game itself.

Ced! It's your ol' pal Lawrence!! just added u on facebook, you have to hear the trippy story i have about hearing your podcast and figuring out it was YOU! soooooo strange... lets talk!

You should probably get a different name to avoid controversy.

The meta-foruming going on here is putting a damper on my actual metagame

We are, of course, recording this week's podcast tomorrow night, with a very special guest, Calgary, Alberta's K0re, known as the owner of the Starcraft Mecca pro-gaming merchandise e-tailer, and the BNET account on which PhoenixWeRRa plays
Lawrence! Join BCIT CSL! We'll talk very soon, yes. Oh, and if you know any Diamond players, recruit them for me!

Very very enjoyable cast. Great coverage of everything, and I cant wait for the next one...... having said that, im going out of my way on my break at work to sh** on FireZerg for his opinion of the depot before rax patch. And I think his reasons for actually liking it are absurd imo. There were many other ways in which blizzard could have dealt with terrans abusing reapers, and they opted for the worst one. They completely cut off a huge part of the game and im sure alot of people will agree with me. Sorry FireZerg.

The podcast will be delayed two days as two of us are sick. Not good! Hopefully we'll be back tomorrow, though

Hey I listened to all the podcasts but the last one but it's hard to hear the discussions. I'm not sure if it's the mics or the way it's recorded? Does anyone else have this problem or just me?
|
it's quiet for me as well. I have to turn it up so high that I'm getting distortion in the background. Otherwise good stuff.
|
It is a little quiet relative to other computer sounds for me, such as youtube or -- what I'm watching right now -- the GSL, but not by much. I pushed up on my volume button twice to bring it up to where the other sounds were, so I'm not sure what the problem is. Are you getting this from iTunes?

I actully streamed the podcasts over my new stream and people noticed it was about 20% quieter I played them off the website which means I couldn't push the volume even higher like in Video Lan Codec so next time I'll just download and go past 100% by about 20 or so %

I'm sure a lot of people would agree with you, but that doesn't make your opinion any more valid. Also, noboy said this was Blizzard's way of dealing with 'terrans abusing reapers', thought it does affect them. The depot-before-rax change essentially makes zerg's 14hatch, and other more-eonomically focused variants, viable. This makes EVERYTHING zerg can do that much stronger and that much less risky, opening up its early game options, which was generally seen by top players (and Blizzard, apparently) as a problem. If we look at previous trends, Blizzard is clearly trying ot make more economic openers more viable for zergs: 5+ seconds to zealots build time, 5+ seconds to reaper build time. These units casued a lot of trouble for early expanding zers, and now they cause less. Looking at it as 'oh they don't want terrans abusing reapers, lol' is fascile. It also allows zergs to overlord scout early on, which was widely being prevented by rax-before-depot openers. Finally, yes this patch restricts what you are allowed to do as a terran, but in practice it restricts cheesy bullshit that nobody particularly wanted to see in the first place, so who gives a flying fuck about that? As a sidenote, though it was an important aspect of BW, tvz cheese operates differently in SC2 due to salvage, building's blocking mechanics and mules. Again, this is dealing with too much early pressre potential from terran at too low risk, not just 'reapers'. I don't have to tell you that though; I already said the the podcast. In turn, this change also opens up a whole matchup which was previously fairly narrowly defined. If Blizzard and top players reached a concensus that 6 pools were skewing the cpmpetetive-level game in a direction they didn't like, and patched it so that you had to have 8 drones before you could pool, for example, the people complaining would be who..? The thousands of kids whose play revolved around getting out those zerglings ASAP for teh lols. We don't give a shit about them. Maybe my reasons for liking that aspect of the patch aren't mainstream, but they aren't absurd; maybe you should do your homework. The game is balanced for the top 0.1% of players, not the bottom 99.9%.

Ok find me some top 0.1% players who agree with you, or just agree that supply before rax is a necessary change and ill be less close minded. And when did I disagree that TvZ needed changes? I do actually agree with that point. But to me, and alot of other players. blizzard found the quickest way to make some kind of change to early game TvZ. And by quickest I mean the biggest cop out. Perhaps increasing time of mule? Making it require an Ebay? Get rid of salvage on bunkers? I mean there are literally a hundred different options that blizzard could have used. But they picked the one that required the least amount of thought. And I give a shit about that cheesy BS. I think its an intregal part of the game, and should always be on the back of EVERY F**king players mind when unfolding their gameplan. Zerg, Terran, Protoss, it doesnt matter. Every player needs to be thinking at some point if their opponent is cheesing. Now, having said that.
This doesnt actually hinder my play since I dont cheese ever. But sometimes I will sacrifice getting an early game lead by 8 raxing against zerg on small maps. What about TvP? What if protoss is trying some gay cheese shit while my depot is building? I havent seen it yet, but it just makes terran early pressure options nonexistant. And every race needs early pressure options. Blizzard could have just as easily done something to punish a terran who is playing as you are suggesting.
|
I'm with Dyenasty. I don't ever cheese either, but as I said on the podcast, I think it takes away flavour from the game and limits the scope. I mean, yea, it's nice to be able to expect to play a more-or-less standard game, but it also takes away from the variety, both play- and spectator-wise. I fucking hate getting six-pooled, one-base Baneling-busted and proxy-gated, but I wouldn't ever want that taken out.
|
Thank you Cedstick. Hell, I even hate getting bunker rushed! But Id rather have it there than not. It keeps me honest.
Getting my ass kicked normally > Blizzard saving me.

I stopped reading after this (and I don't think you're close-minded). I could probably find you people in the top 0.1% who think that the moon is made out of cheese, but it wouldn't make my point any stronger. This is just about you listening to me (speaking from hundreds of replays/VOD's watched and hundreds of ladder matches played since the patch), or not, doesn't matter what you do on ladder, and I wasn't trying to imply that you were QQing cause your BBs doesn't work anymore. Anyways, I only want the best for people who are concerned about the way the game will turn out, and the game from a spectators point of view is very important also, but I hope you'll see that I'm right, in the upcoming GSL, or in Dallas (or maybe you should watch the VOD's and download the replays from DC), or wherever else, that the game doesn't look or feel restricted in any way, and that this change is a net gain for tvz as a matchup, however easy it is to argue that 'blizzard is lazy, rofl, effortful thought proccess behind balanced changes plz!! PLZ!'
anyways at the end of the day, nobody gains or loses anything from being right or wrong on a forum or arguing until you win/lose whatever. all that matters is if you can snap necks on ladder and do well in tourneys =P.
|
I just had a huge debate with FireZerg about this over IM. Totally see his reasoning, so it's a hard one to argue either way just because of the nuances on either end. We respectfully disagreed
|
Well hes right about there needing to be changes. But hes blind if he thinks that was either the best or only way.

how come when i advertised my podcast here i got banned? I like your cast too but it's just unfair that I got banned. can any admins tell me why i got banned and this user didn't? I don't want him to get banned, i just don't think i should get banned for doing the same thing...

Did you have a well-structured first post, or was it one line with no information and a link? That's what immediately comes to mind when I think of seemingly proper threads being closed.
Anyway, we just finished podcasting for the week, and man, is it a meandering discussion. All in all, quite long this week considering it's just three guys (K0re couldn't make it on unfortunately.) Some funny moments though, including my "radio voice." Fuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu-.
I'll try and get it edited and uploaded tonight, but I'm going to be using new software and might want to screw with it a little longer than usual so it may go up tomorrow instead. Sorry for the late cast -- blame autumn colds taking two of us out!
|
Its all good, as long as its here by monday!
|
It'll be up Monday morning. I get off work at 6:30am PST and will edit it then (though I won't be editing much this time around since there's lots to edit and I have to go to school before 12.) The bonus for it being late is you get a b-side podcast as well. I think the main podcast will be about 45 minutes and the b-side will be 30. We'll see!

I'm going to get the B-side up within 20 hours hopefully. Additionally, we'll be recording this week's podcast on Thursday, with two special features: K0re, who made it back alive from Blizzcon, and a brand-new intro and outro from our regular music contributor, Phatnelia. Teaser: the intro is fucking siiiiiiiick. So good. Seriously. Many thanks to Phatnelia! Some of his older stuff can be found here: http://soundcloud.com/fredd_gustavski
Important EDIT: Oh, wow. I went to make a quick edit to the news post on the website and I realized it hadn't been posted yet X| FUUUUUUUUUU-. It was only drafted and previewed. My bad if any of you were looking for it on Monday. It's up now! Man, that blunder makes it so possibly three podcast segments will be going up within' about five days lolol.

The B-side is up, guys, if you wanted even MORE podcast this week http://esportscanada.net/ Also, stay-tuned for a couple of announcements I'll be posting on the website tonight regarding a CSL league match live cast, as well as the East vs West Canadian Grudge Match information!

2v2 we-get-fucked match, gogogogo! lolz.
Tonight we'll will be recording our post-game analysis for the WEST vs EAST Canadian Grudge Match, podcast-style! We’ll have the regulars on, two of which, SCanemone and FireZerg, were competitors in the match, and a special guest, L2SC.net’s very own Joshua “Ic3d” Valouche, who casted and commentated the Show Matches. We will, of course, talk about the Show Matches, then cover the second “season” of the GomTV Star League and the results ’til now — we’re up to the semi-finals, guys, and getting close to another epic $87 500 set! We’ll touch on some hopeful future plans resulting from the show match, which will lead in to some lengthy discussion with Ic3d on the Canadian Starcraft scene and the Canada Cup.
We have some more awesome guests lined-up for the podcast — we’re starting to have to schedule guests almost a month in advance — so keep your eyes and ears open. Also, we still owe Edwin “k0re” Jung a podcast, as last week’s recorded file of our talks with him was, unfortunately, corrupted. We’ll have him on soon as a bonus podcast, though, to find out more about him and his awesome Starcraft online merchandise retailer, http://StarcraftMecca.net!
Last, but definitely not least: we’d like to hear from you! Let us know what you think of the podcast, let us know what you think of our coverage, let us know what you want to see on the site; just let us know! We’re slowly but surely expanding, and want to deliver some great content for everyone, Canadian and International, so don’t hesitate to drop us a line. You can contact myself, Cedstick, at cedriccook1@esportscanada.net, leave a comment on one of our news posts, or throw me a PM on Team Liquid.

Ya Im not so sure about the 2v2 match. I dont have the time and energy to put into SC2 like I had with BW. But for lulz ill do it. If it happens, or if you dont mind, PM me and ill tell you my character code.
But I think you guys do a really good job. Even though I like to argue certain points, the overall feel about the cast is good. Its waaaay past my waaay to early bedtime. So Ill think of some questions. I had some really good ones at work earlier when I listened to the newest cast. But today was very busy and I apparently forgot. Keep it up guys!

Sorry about the delay for this week's podcast, guys. We're having issues with the website, so the podcast won't be up 'til tomorrow. Regardless of the site's status tomorrow, I'll get it up one host or another

gogo ced, waiting for it =)

To complicate things even more, I've had hard drive problems on my main drive and have had to re-install Windows on my secondary D: Thankfully, I keep back-ups of my projects, so tonight, with Windows re-installed and school finals over, I'll have the chance to finish what I've started! Also, the website is back up! For those waiting for the podcast, thank you again for your patience during this extended delay.

Project has not died out. I actually have the Adobe Audition file open right now hahahah. Just didn't feel like doing it after being stressed for like two weeks straight, in to more sickness, in to hard drive crash Finally got all my back-up files organized last night, went to work, finishing tonight.
Sorry 'bout the delays, guys. I'm a podcast addict, too, and I love just wasting away time at work and commutes listening to dudes bullshit :D

Done! Podcast is up! Very sorry for the delays, guys. I also got WEST vs EAST replays up and the VODs linked.
Plenty of stuff to come, don't worry; this project is far from done, especially since I don't have to worry about school for some time now.
We resume our podcast schedule this very week, hopefully tomorrow!

|
Love the OP link pic. Great cast guys thank you.
|
Thanks, DyEnasTy
We're recording a short episode tonight, something a bit more casual (I say, as if we weren't super casual in the first place.) We'll be trying to do a podcast at the Canadian Cup this Sunday -- I say "try," as my netbook might not be able to do it. If possible we'll use a computer there, though!
|
Any new episodes about to be online?
|
Hey, sorry about the wait. Our schedules haven't really lined-up lately, and as said we didn't end-up getting a podcast done at Canadian Cup D: I'm shooting to have a couple podcasts recorded before FireZerg leaves for the holidays (mid-December.)
|
I'd like to know before I listen, how good are the players who are talking?
|
I'd say I'm roughly 1500 Diamond, but the real stars are FireZerg, who is 2588 without actually really laddering much, and SCanemone, who is 2581 (Protoss.) FireZerg is a Gosu Coach, so after university, coaching and his girlfriend he doesn't really get much time to ladder or practice, but with that practice I'd say he's easily be at least 2700. SCanemone has been getting pretty good lately, too... as if 2500 isn't good enough
Don't mind me. I'm just looking up from my lowly 1500 curb.
Anyway, from B.net earlier:
SCanemone: "7pm?" Me: "Tuesday." SCanemone: "OK I'M HOLDING YOU TO IT. I'M PODCASTING WITH OR WITHOUT YOU. IF I KNEW HOW TO RECORD."
FireZerg can also make it this week, so it's set to go! Can't wait :D
|
|
Well, look who got off his lazy coachin' butt. I like how you did it right AFTER the Top-200 came out, so you're only 169 on the list lol.
|
Podcast up! We're also doing a Patch 1.2 mini-podcast on Saturday (or so is the plan) and a regularly-scheduled podcast on Tuesday again. If not, we'll just combine it all in an end-of-year extravaganza! Lots of podcastin' to get in before Sam goes on his break, hopefully. I'll also do a short podcast closer to Christmas out-lining some huge changes coming with the new year regarding the eSports Canada site, and Kevin and I may do our own podcast -- we don't need no stinkin' FireZerg!
Don't forget to vote on the poll or send me an e-mail!

Ok, after the new site is complete and rolling, we'll do a showmatch, DyEnasTy.
Ksyper, I'm workin' on it. I got the noise cleared-up this last podcast at least. Skype is fuckin' weird with Audio levels, though.
Going to be opening-up an e-mails section sometime soon, since after two weeks of life a podcast usually has five-hundred listens. I'll probably wait 'til after the website is done.

Sweet on all parts! Especially on us getting our asses handed, no wait, served to us on a silver, no wait, platter made with platinum with diamonds.

We didn't get the drinking podcast done like we wanted Sorry, guys. Sam (FireZerg) is out having a Holiday Blast for a few week, but Kevin and I can still knock some podcasts out. Kevin has a loooooot to say about the GSL
|
There's a delay for this week's podcast for two reasons: there's a realllllly annoying, constant clicking sound throughout the recording that I'm still fiddling around with trying to get rid of, and.... my keyboard on my PC is dead X| FML. Going to pick one up today, but because of my nightshift schedule it might not be up for another 30 hours D: Rest assured, it IS coming! Special Guest AlphaIIOmega is on this week, and we have some cool announcements, including a boatload of local tournies for the new year, and some big site-related plans.
Man, I wish this netbook could handle Adobe Audition.
|
Did the podcast died? I think it died.
|
|
Haha, funny seeing you bumping my thread for me, Carson, as we JUST finished a podcast, and Kevin gave you a shout-out XD
Name-change incoming, podcast in a few hours! Just have clean it up a bit (and watch NASL.)
YES I'M NOT BULLSHITTING IT'S ACTUALLY RECORDED. WE'RE BACK!
|
|
|
If you guys are covering the NASL,
+ Show Spoiler +Excellent results by Canadian players!! + Show Spoiler +also, wtf, I listened to an episode here where you guys were going to throw stalife a retirement party... and he's rolling machine in NASL??
Also, TY for shout-out Kevin, I have been pressing "e" as instructed and it's been winning my pvp's for me vs 4gates lol
Keep up the good work guys!
|
Yea, in a later episode we discussed the indecision of one Sung Min Park, I believe XD And yes, we will be going over the NASL in greater depth in following episodes, since we don't have about five other seasons of tournaments to cover (or fail at atttempting, anyway.)
|
Episode 8 is up! We bring Canadian Grand-Masters coLRyze and Gilmish on to the show for some fun. Also, follow me on Twitter for updates on the podcast status -- if it'll be delayed, when it's up, etc -- at http://www.twitter.com/Cedstick
http://www.esportscanada.net/podcast/Meta-Game_ep8.mp3
We've been pretty busy this week, so sorry it's up a bit late. We're still trying to stick to the Thursday/Friday schedule, so hopefully we can keep-up! Episode 9 may be a little late as well since I'm moving this week.
|
|
Oh come on, it wasn't that bad. I mean, it was bad, but in a purposeful way X| Ethic you're supposed to be my cheerleader man COME OOOON.
Anyway, we're recording tonight with another special guest Someone we hope returns to his homeland very soon, despite his fun and success with his practice-partner house-mates (COUGH-HINT-COUGH)
Hopefully I don't DC during the podcast -_-
|
Great podcast, and thanks for the shout out!

Interesting initiative. Being a fellow Canadian, its nice to see SOMEONE care about our eSports scene....Canada fighting~~!

No probs, Atticus Add me on LoL if you haven't already eScDeadwing.
Thanks for the support, fams! There's actually a lot brewing in the Canadian scene right now, most of which we cover on the podcast and link to in the show-notes.
Podcast with ROOTDrewbie has been recorded and will be up tomorrow!
|
Nice Podcasts guys, Just realized I met CSOAnemone at a lan here in Calgary and forgot he was on my friends list, I was pretty confused who he was I got a good idea now though, enjoyed the podcast!
|
Will you ever make a new one? I loved these :D
|
Remember us, guys? We're back at it! Well, I'm back at it, at least.. FireZerg was supposed to be on for this episode, but he got busy T_T Instead I've got guests CanucksJC (whom you might recognize from this very forum) and Menkt, a local tournament organizer. We talk about Zaby's Motor Lodge in Anaheim (and that other MLG thing I guess,) developments in the community since our last show (which has been a long time!) and more!
We'll be covering some RED-HOT TOPICS in the coming week, as well as the cG Invitational that's taking place this weekend that has some sick local names in it, such as ValiditySaga, coLSteak (Stalife), tQtyrAnt, vVvHasuu, 4KWarden and more!

Yay! One of my favorite Podcasts is back! Hopefully it will actually become regular because you say it will everytime and it never does. <3
|
Can you guys give a mention to the canadian barcrafts that will be meeting to watch MLG Raleigh?
|
PRIMADOG, FOR YOU, ANYTHING. Always happy to spread the word.
BARRETT, we won't let you down. We're podcasting tomorrow to give some after-thoughts on the cG tournament we just ran -- rather, the Doan brothers ran, and some of us commentated/observed YAY! I'll try to rope the winner in to coming on, since he's actually a pretty cool guy to talk to despite his false quiet-person appearance.
|
Hey, just wanted to say I listened to the latest podcast and I got quite a bit of info from the Vancouver SC2 scene. Appreciate the work put in to the podcast. Will be tuning in more, keep it up!
|
We're live for the first time! Streaming the episode that will be up later tonight. Talking about 1/1/1 right now. http://twitch.tv/lojiqaen
|
I run into cSOanemone every so often on ladder. Will give this a listen .
|
He's not on this time, unfortunately, but we have a full house of new faces (well, some new)

WHEREIN we discuss the recently-passed Cyber Gaming Invitational held at Memory Express in Richmond, BC (thanks Memory Express dot com,) the controversial 1/1/1 build, MLG Raleigh and associated BarCrafts, Stealthypoo the dirty stream-cheater and user questions! A five-man team creates chaos this week, but it's a good one. Cedric "Cedstick" Cook, Adrian "Menkt" Fakstorp, James "Hurroh I'm CanucksJC" Choi, Scott "Chrome" Rebelo and Dan "LojiQaen of Al-Queda" Sealey.
If you've got any questions for the podcast -- anything at all, we're up for some laughs, but be creative if it isn't serious -- don't hesitate to post in this thread, or e-mail me at cedriccook1@esportscanada.net

Thanks, you guys are awesome.
If you ever visit a nearby barcraft scene, let me know! The organizer there owe you guys a drink!

YES. I dearly missed this podcast. I need to get myself back up to Vancouver sometime soon.

ATTICUS, some day we will play LoL again. I hit 30, too!

You really should rename this to something more Starcraft focused considering you leave out every single other eSport it seems.
That is just my thought though...

That is just my thought though... This is something that's been in mind lately. I'm getting a new website up, so it'll be dealt with then.

Mini-podcast! Adrian comes back on for a mid-week discussion on the 1.4 PtR preview and we get Sam "FireZerg" Prowse' thoughts on the MLG pools! Also, we say good-bye to Kevin "SCanemone" Kinney, who sadly couldn't make it.

Thanks for the bump, StarcraftNorth :3
So, I heard people like podcasts! This one is quite late, but my website was down for a couple of days so I couldn't exactly get it uploaded. It's here now, though! HUZZAH!

Bumping this thread because it's worth it.
|
This week's episode is up! Description and DL link in the OP, of course. Thanks for the bump, Calvin.
|
Just want to let you know Cedstick, I actually look forward to these podcasts. There's inside jokes a plenty (as much as I don't get it, of course) but it's still fun to listen to. Thanks man!
|
Thanks, G :D Mysterious alias, by the way. I feel I should know who you are, but I've got nothing more to go on than, "G."
We'll be streaming, as usual, tonight at 8pm PDT! Tune-in and listen to nerds talk about nerdy stuff! Drop us some questions in the chat during the show, or e-mail me at cedriccook1 at esportscanada dot net.

Very sorry about anyone waiting to watch the live stream of the cast. We had a lot of technical difficulties, most related to xsplit not working for anyone, so we recorded off-air. I'll have the podcast uploaded by midnight PDT, though, and the show will be on-schedule next week, or you'll have a notification a lot more shortly after 8pm if we encounter difficulties since we'll be starting a lot earlier next time.
Thanks again!
|
good to see you got the cast up after the troubles.
|
Thanks We're starting the pre-show a lot earlier to make sure things will work in the future so people don't have to wait after 8 in case we have problems.
We're hoping to do a live podcast after and from Barcraft Vancouver, with some neat ideas in store Also, as usual the show will resume this Monday at 8pm, of course! If you haven't already checked, the episode that "failed" last week DID get recorded and uploaded, although it is a tad short at just over 20 minutes. Still, we get some good discussion going on the Neural and other possible changes. We'll be revisiting the NEW neural changes this coming podcast, too, amongst other topics.

Perhaps you'll get to know me when there is more SC2 events in Vancouver as I've only been to the one at memory express. I was in there for a while though. I'll try to tune in to the podcast live this time around.

We find time in our schedules and get things going again! Within, we speak of Youtube partnering with IGN, Brood War teams playing Starcraft 2, the Blizzcon tournament(s), the up-coming Cyber-Gaming tournament, preview the ASUS ROG and GOMTV Team Ace invitationals, and more! Even better, the stream is working again! Our handsome faces were seen by all, and can seen again, (tentatively) next Thursday at 8pm, once again! Follow me on Twitter at http://twitter.com/cedstick for updates on if we're going live, when the show is available for download, news on local tournaments and other miscellaneous updates.
Forgive my mic's distortion. I've done a lot of moving around of equipment lately and we thought my levels were fine. They weren't. Will be fixed for next week!

I race home from preparation for this weekend's Cyber Gaming tournament to talk to Dan, James and Alek -- welcome back -- about patch 1.4.2, lengthily about the Heart of the Swarm unit reveals and previews, and, of course, the Cyber Gaming Tournament #5, which I'll be commentating this weekend! We go for an hour-and-a-half. How, I have no idea. All that hating on the new units, I guess. Don't hate me because I love Brood War

Oh, and if you use Twitter and want to know when the podcast is going to go live, is available for download, or want to see random crap I think is funny, follow me [url=http://twitter.com/cedstick]http://twitter.com/cedstick[url] I give updates on other noteworthy or local events, too.

It's been a while since I've topped this thread, but everyone involved with the cast has been pretty busy. Regardless, we're doing a wrap-up podcast for 2011 tonight at 8PM! 10 minutes from this post. CanucksJC and I will talk about what we liked and didn't like about 2011, some recent tournament results in the GSL, and talk with Dallas Doan of Cyber-Gaming Canada.
http://twitch.tv/canucksjc
We won't have another podcast likely 'til mid-January, as I'm doing a huge re-work of the structure to keep things fresh.

Can we do a reunion episode or a "where are they now" for the Legacy Beta?
