A neat little thing that was shown on gizmodo today. Of course it won't be used for competetive play but the technology behind this sort of thing is cool. Imagine being able to control the minimap with your left hand using a touchscreen!
Developer Daniel Hellerman has let us know about an interesting little project he's working on: an app that promises to let you control Starcraft II from your iPhone (or iPad).
Completely useless in terms of performance it may be, but it'll still be a neat trick for LAN parties parties, and may even come in handy if you're stuck on the can a little longer than expected and your build order needs a refresh.
In addition to the ability to control nearly everything in the game - the app synchs with a program you have to download to your PC, so it's basically a glorified control pad - it also comes with a Starcraft II unit encyclopaedia and tips on successful build orders.
The Starcraft 2 Gameboard is set for release in September 2010. With the Starcraft 2 Gameboard, you will be able to remotely control your Starcraft 2 game from your iPhone, Ipad, or Ipod touch. It will include many great features such as mini-map control, detailed unit statistics, and easy touch access to the games most important hotkeys and macros.

Not sure fully understand lo. Can you control the SC2 units and shit on your computer using your iphone/iPod? lol. Pretty funny but utterly pointless I guess.

Indeed. Things like facebook and youtube will never become something a lot of people enjoy and find useful.
Just wait for web 3.0 !
On topic: Looks pretty cool. I dont think it will see a lot of use, but its a cool gimmick none the less.

I'm thinking this is basically that bar ported over to a touchscreen, synced to your computer/sc2 client.

I would prefer the ability to watch replays on my iPhone.
|
The question is: can you get banned for using third-party software or hardware to gain an edge over your opponent? Fun to use, but pretty useless.
|
I mean.. I might get this for the shits and giggles but lets be honest. It expects you to take your hand off your keyboard and use this for control groups and movement? Not sure this is that user friendly.. we will have to see once release comes.

Believe it or not .. you sort of have *some* options here.. You can get the french app SC2 Replay which has a bunch of replays you can watch (streamed of course) and there is also livestream.. granted the selection isn't really controlled by you but as of right now I think it is the closest thing.
However back when I played Supcom I remember getting a community together to save fpvods in mp4 format. You can then download most pro games onto your ipod granted its not exactly a "replay" its essentially a FPvod.. but thats the closest I got for you.. for now

Whenever I have access to wireless I can just use a computer to watch these things. I want it for situations where I only have 3g or edge access (or no net access).

This will clearly make Torch too good of a player.
|
I believe this came out today.. anyone going to give it a try?
|
Just bought it, but waiting for them to update the site with the .exe you need for your computer, then I'll post and tell you guys what it's like.
|
i thought i saw the pc file under downloads?
|
|
Ah, it was hidden on the Windows logo, that's kind of silly. Trying it out now. ^.^
EDIT: Can't even get it to work, will try again later I guess.
|
Cant get it to work either.. alls it says is waiting for connection. When I swipe right, it says ping and chat.. I can chat with it.. thats all..
|
Same Terra. And when I hit ping, I saw the ping icon on my computer light up, but nothing else. *shrug*
