It is easy to figure out that a good mouse for this is small and light, however it is not easy to figure out if a high friction or low friction mouse surface work best. I have spent some time searching for answers and found contradicting views so now i turn to TL.

Do your research, experiment, and find the setup that best suits your own comfort zone.

Also to note that the control side of the Vespula is not as rough as you'd think. As someone put it before, its like a bunch of mini ball bearings for skateboard all on the surface of the mouse mat. (I am using the Razer Imperator, 5600 dpi setting, but I slow it down by decreasing the mouse movement on the control panel of the computer.) But as many times as this questions seems to pop up, it all really is personal preference.

But honestly comfort is the biggest factor you want to think about. I've used an Icemat for years now and am just used to it but it is extremely low friction, pretty much zero friction with fresh teflon pads on the mouse feet, which can cope extremely well with very very high sensitivity. But it's made of glass so it has the obvious drawbacks of that, it's hard and cold. I use a fingerless glove on my mouse hand to cushion it on the pad, if not i get lump where my hand rests on the hard surface, which isn't good obviously. A lot of very low friction pads are very hard and cold, which can often get easily messed up by even a slight amount of sweat. Conversely the big thick cloth pads are soft and comfortable and offer a lot of control at lower sensitivity, but not so much at high. They also don't respond well to drinks or food being spilled on them, which a hard low friction pad will shrug off. That's just some food for thought beyond "which is best".

1. things with sharp spikes on them are bad 2. a mouse should have more then one button anything beyond that is down to personal preference and if you choose something because a "pro" uses that exact same setup, even if it does not realy work for you, you will probably perform subpar.
