I was planning to re-run things after the patch comes out to see if things change, I think after a week we're about due for a re-run of the full batch of stats regardless though.

These are the top 1000 2v2 US Diamond Teams this week:

+ Show Spoiler +
1 Terran 1 Protoss : 291
1 Terran 1 Zerg : 203
1 Protoss 1 Zerg : 158
2 Random : 98
1 Terran 1 Random : 54
1 Protoss 1 Random : 53
1 Zerg 1 Random : 52
2 Terran : 35
2 Protoss : 24
2 Zerg : 22

For reference, here is last week's distribution:

+ Show Spoiler +

1 Terran 1 Protoss : 298
1 Terran 1 Zerg : 185
1 Protoss 1 Zerg : 142
2 Random : 98
1 Protoss 1 Random : 72
1 Terran 1 Random : 61
1 Zerg 1 Random : 47
2 Protoss : 31
2 Terran : 31
2 Zerg : 25

The numbers are very similar all around, the top three spots (TP/TZ/PZ) have grown a bit in popularity while TR/PR/ZR have all dropped in popularity, so the league is slightly more top heavy than it used to be. But everything else is in the same basic proportion as last week.

SC2ranks is easier to query than last week for whatever reason, so here's a stat I couldn't do last time, the top 800 3v3 US Diamond Teams this week:

+ Show Spoiler +

1 Terran 1 Protoss 1 Zerg : 243
1 Terran 1 Protoss 1 Random : 59
3 Random : 55
1 Terran 2 Protoss : 51
1 Terran 1 Zerg 1 Random : 47
1 Protoss 2 Random : 35
1 Protoss 1 Zerg 1 Random : 32
2 Terran 1 Protoss : 30
1 Zerg 2 Random : 29
2 Terran 1 Zerg : 29
1 Protoss 2 Zerg : 28
1 Terran 2 Random : 26
1 Terran 2 Zerg : 26
2 Protoss 1 Zerg : 19
2 Zerg 1 Random : 11
2 Protoss 1 Random : 11
2 Terran 1 Random : 10
3 Terran : 5
3 Zerg : 3
3 Protoss : 2

And for an apples to apples comparison, the top 400 us diamond stats from this week:

+ Show Spoiler +

1 Terran 1 Protoss 1 Zerg : 137
3 Random : 32
1 Terran 1 Protoss 1 Random : 32
1 Terran 1 Zerg 1 Random : 22
1 Terran 2 Protoss : 22
1 Zerg 2 Random : 17
1 Protoss 2 Zerg : 16
1 Terran 2 Zerg : 16
2 Terran 1 Protoss : 16
2 Terran 1 Zerg : 15
1 Protoss 2 Random : 14
1 Protoss 1 Zerg 1 Random : 14
1 Terran 2 Random : 12
2 Protoss 1 Zerg : 11
2 Zerg 1 Random : 6
2 Terran 1 Random : 6
3 Terran : 4
2 Protoss 1 Random : 2
3 Zerg : 1
3 Protoss : 1

And last week:
+ Show Spoiler +

1 Terran 1 Protoss 1 Zerg : 133
1 Terran 1 Protoss 1 Random : 33
1 Terran 1 Zerg 1 Random : 25
3 Random : 23
1 Terran 2 Protoss : 21
2 Terran 1 Protoss : 21
1 Protoss 1 Zerg 1 Random : 16
1 Protoss 2 Zerg : 15
2 Terran 1 Zerg : 15
1 Protoss 2 Random : 14
1 Terran 2 Random : 14
1 Terran 2 Zerg : 14
2 Protoss 1 Zerg : 14
1 Zerg 2 Random : 12
2 Protoss 1 Random : 8
2 Zerg 1 Random : 7
2 Terran 1 Random : 7
3 Terran : 2
3 Zerg : 1
3 Protoss : 1

TPZ is still the dominant option in 3v3s, Triple Random has been rising in popularity to take second place, everything else is about the same. Obviously 400 isn't a huge data set, but next week we should be able to compare 800 to 800.

And since diamond 4v4s still have barely any arranged teams, here's the top 1000 us platinum 4v4 teams this week:

+ Show Spoiler +

1 Terran 2 Protoss 1 Zerg : 153
1 Terran 1 Protoss 1 Zerg 1 Random : 145
2 Terran 1 Protoss 1 Zerg : 94
1 Terran 1 Protoss 2 Random : 85
1 Terran 1 Protoss 2 Zerg : 67
1 Zerg 3 Random : 47
1 Protoss 3 Random : 47
1 Terran 3 Random : 46
4 Random : 29
1 Terran 2 Zerg 1 Random : 27
2 Terran 1 Protoss 1 Random : 19
1 Protoss 1 Zerg 2 Random : 18
2 Protoss 2 Random : 18
2 Terran 2 Zerg : 18
2 Terran 2 Protoss : 18
2 Zerg 2 Random : 11
1 Terran 1 Zerg 2 Random : 11
1 Terran 2 Protoss 1 Random : 11
2 Protoss 1 Zerg 1 Random : 10
2 Terran 2 Random : 9
1 Protoss 2 Zerg 1 Random : 9
2 Terran 1 Zerg 1 Random : 9
2 Protoss 2 Zerg : 9
1 Terran 3 Protoss : 9
4 Terran : 9
3 Terran 1 Protoss : 1

And last week:

+ Show Spoiler +

1 Terran 1 Protoss 1 Zerg 1 Random : 93
2 Terran 1 Protoss 1 Zerg : 82
1 Terran 1 Protoss 2 Zerg : 79
1 Terran 2 Protoss 1 Zerg : 74
1 Terran 1 Protoss 2 Random : 62
1 Terran 2 Protoss 1 Random : 53
1 Protoss 3 Random : 50
4 Random : 41
2 Terran 2 Protoss : 40
2 Terran 1 Protoss 1 Random : 39
1 Protoss 1 Zerg 2 Random : 38
1 Terran 1 Zerg 2 Random : 32
2 Protoss 1 Zerg 1 Random : 32
1 Terran 3 Random : 30
1 Zerg 3 Random : 25
2 Terran 2 Random : 25
2 Protoss 2 Random : 23
2 Terran 1 Zerg 1 Random : 22
2 Protoss 2 Zerg : 22
3 Protoss 1 Zerg : 16
1 Terran 3 Protoss : 16
1 Protoss 2 Zerg 1 Random : 15
1 Terran 2 Zerg 1 Random : 14
2 Terran 2 Zerg : 13
3 Terran 1 Protoss : 12
3 Terran 1 Zerg : 10
1 Protoss 3 Zerg : 6
3 Terran 1 Random : 5
1 Terran 3 Zerg : 5
2 Zerg 2 Random : 4
4 Terran : 4
3 Protoss 1 Random : 3
3 Zerg 1 Random : 2
4 Zerg : 2
4 Protoss : 1

And for a more coherent breakdown of both:
This week 459 picked Terran/Protoss/Zerg plus another race (picked or random)
Last week 328 picked Terran/Protoss/Zerg plus another race (picked or random)
This week 169 picked Triple Random or Quadruple Random
Last week 146 picked Triple Random or Quadruple Random

4v4s appear to have changed the most by far, possibly because it's taking them longer to develop as a league, it's more top-heavy than it used to be, triple random and quadruple random is growing more popular at a high level as you might expect, the teams based solely around Terran/Protoss also seem to have diminished significantly.

The numbers for each league being made up of randoms vs arranged teams looked similar to before btw. I'd be curious how people play co-operative modes, but Blizzard is probably the only ones with that data.

This makes sence about using the strengths of all races. I find when my 3v3s and 4v4s go well for my team the Protoss ends up defending harassment with stalkers and observers, zergs dish out harrassment with mutaling and the terran finnishes up the game with its powerful army.

Still having very spotty luck grabbing 4v4 stats, although diamond is filling up so that would give us a better picture when I do grab them.

I've been in gold for 3v3s for a while with an arranged team, and recently played a bunch of random 3v3s and made it into platinum after a bunch of games. Not sure if it's a run of good luck, or if you get paired with more random teams as opposed to arranged teams when you're a random team, making placement easier.

Actually given these ladder changes: http://us.battle.net/sc2/en/blog/785422#blog

I should probably re-examine the distribution of 3v3 teams soon.

I agree completely. This is especially true in team games as often people are playing races for fun and not super-serious "my best race" hardcore 1v1 ladder. Although winning does equate to more fun.

I also think that you can make a lot of stuff work in the bigger games (or at least not really learn why its a failure). For example, in 4v4 you can do whatever you please and sometimes it will work and sometimes it won't, but its often hard to say why because there were 7 other people involved. So you can do more intrinsically interesting builds.

are the league distribution by gametype numbers still relevant? or have they changed? either drastically to a 20/20/20/20/20 or slightly where they are still accurate?

Hey I'm back after a hiatus, let's see if things have changed

The top 1000 teams in US Diamond:

1 Terran 1 Protoss : 274
1 Terran 1 Zerg : 203
1 Protoss 1 Zerg : 167
2 Random : 87
1 Zerg 1 Random : 58
1 Protoss 1 Random : 57
1 Terran 1 Random : 50
2 Zerg : 37
2 Terran : 32
2 Protoss : 25

Compared to one month ago:

+ Show Spoiler +
1 Terran 1 Protoss : 303
1 Terran 1 Zerg : 203
1 Protoss 1 Zerg : 153
2 Random : 92
1 Protoss 1 Random : 53
1 Terran 1 Random : 50
1 Zerg 1 Random : 47
2 Terran : 34
2 Protoss : 31
2 Zerg : 24

Random went up, Terran/Protoss went down, Zerg/Protoss went up, but not by an overwhelming amount, that suggests that balance changes are less significant than other factors in how people pick their races, since this is a before/after relative to the patch.

2 Zerg 1 Random : 11

A side note: my own 3v3 team has broken the top 200 or so of diamond. We switch from TPP to TPZ after the void ray nerf, but we're still listed as a TPP team, because we spent more games with that combo than the current one, so that does demonstrate that it would take a while for changes like that to show up.

Anyway, the top 1000 2v2 us diamond teams:

1 Terran 1 Protoss : 276
1 Terran 1 Zerg : 194
1 Protoss 1 Zerg : 189
2 Random : 81
1 Zerg 1 Random : 56
1 Terran 1 Random : 55
1 Protoss 1 Random : 51
2 Zerg : 35
2 Terran : 27
2 Protoss : 26

The top 1000 3v3 us diamond teams:

1 Terran 1 Protoss 1 Zerg : 278
1 Terran 1 Protoss 1 Random : 78
3 Random : 71
2 Terran 1 Protoss : 66
1 Terran 2 Random : 60
1 Terran 2 Protoss : 60
1 Terran 1 Zerg 1 Random : 56
1 Protoss 1 Zerg 1 Random : 46

One other interesting thought: this kind of list could be used to predict what kind of combinations you're likely to see at the top level, ie how likely an arranged team is to be triple terran or something. I would be interested to know if random teams are arranged in similar patterns or not, or if the odds of facing a triple random team of all the same race would be much higher.

This is why T+P is the most used combo:

Any combination of ranged+melee in the early game can win in the first 10 minutes. Terran has the marines (and possibly marauders if the game lasts longer), which work extremely well with the strong zealots. A well-timed timing attack with the right amount of marines and zealots will be a killer. You don't even need gas for these units.

ZP(specifically, zerglings + marines) works second best to zealots+marines, but zerglings die faster. Still more powerful than any melee+melee or ranged+range combination.
