I think it would be a whole lot easier to capture and stream one camera with microphone pointed at a stage with a bunch of dudes on it than trying to capture a bunch of dudes streaming via a skype call, drop the video into an overlay, and then stream out that video. Don't need anything fancy, just a geek in the back with a camcorder and a laptop with a decent connection to upload to twitch. Oh wait, I forgot, it's in Boston. I'm sure there will be fifteen MIT cyborgs in the crowd with DIY radio telemetry links to an OC-12 backbone feeder. + Show Spoiler + It's not like they're already doing exactly that on the Main Stage. ![]()

It would, however, be better than nothing. And it has, in fact, been done for a number of events similar to this which work out to be "good enough". I wonder if it is not technical issues but rather event restrictions/regulations that might prevent them from doing so. (As an example, there are many pirated movies which are recorded in a movie theater, that work well enough but which are certainly prohibited.)

But not knowing the existing set-up and available tech on site, things are more complicated. You don't "just" connect a cam to a laptop. In hindsight, yes, they probably could have streamed it with preparation

So tired. this... although i guess the standard response is that i shouldnt have bothered because its a free show and you get what you pay for

In hindsight, yes, they probably could have streamed it with preparation Preparation would have let them do something better than what they normally put out online. However, in a major convention center in Boston, I can guarantee there will be internet access. (If nothing else, 4G wireless.) You can in fact "just" connect a cam to a laptop with streaming software, and stream. You need a connection robust enough for you to send 360 quality video that will let you stream your video to your rebroadcasting service. That's about it. And note the mention above about "MIT Cyborgs" - this is not something that isn't already figured out. It doesn't have to be all that pretty - their normal show isn't that pretty. (I'm reminded of a hideous conversation I had when my employers went with an extremely expensive, Cisco VoIP set up when a simple Vent/TS server would suffice to meet the requirements.)

I dont know if im the only one, but just playing 1v1 on the lonly battlnet2.0 is loosing its lustre. The only things keeping me interested are the big events, which are starting to become repetitive, and a show like state of the game, which is the biggest outlet for personality and the biggest drawcard keeping me interested. But a month has gone bye and theres only a teasing of a bright horizon....... i want to keep caring, but if SOTG fades away like it has over the last while....... i dont know how much longer im meant to keep trying to stay involved.....

http://www.twitch.tv/pax (BTW, this is pretty much exactly what I described above - a camera pointed at the stage. I'm undecided if they are pulling the audio off the sound system, but from echoes/coughs I have my doubts.)
