Generally I think players spend to much time trying to memorise openings, It is tempting to try and win fast however it is a mistake. Memorizing builds may work in the short run however over time it will cease to be as effective as players can more often take it to the late game where it is no longer possible to rely on exact timings.

In PvZ protoss seem to depend heavily on some kind of 'trick' in the opening to do damage to the zerg. Stephano in particular can simply hold off any form of early attack and always take it to the late game, or straight up win due to the protoss investing too much in a failed attack. I think protoss should put more effort into taking as little damage as possible, getting a third and taking it to the late game of managing economy.

With the Red Bull Lan It would be really good to see a lot of lategame PvZ, which may well happen if Ret is going to focus on the transition to broodlords?

I love that SotG be indy and disorganized. Keep up the good mess, gents! Please never let it become a freaking CNN.

edit: My only recurrent complaint has been for announcing the shows in advance and on the TL calendar, but either that has improved slightly, or I just learned to deal with it (check the thread regularly), so it hasn't been an issue for me lately.

Haha, i imagine JP sitting there in a suit and saying "in foreign news: Jake "orb" Sklarew have been (explains the stuff) and i am here with our investigator Geoff Robinson. And Geoff, how bad is this?" (Also in a suit) "Yea JP it is pretty big (explains more stuff). Back to you JP." "Thank you Geoff! That was all we have time for. (looks into another camera) I am JP and this. Is State of the game"

Yea but i must agree. the raw "unprofessionalism" makes the show seem casual, and i would never enforce change onto a show that is so enjoyable and fun to watch. I must also say that it would be easier to enjoy (but not as funny) if we could at least comprehend what everyone else but JP was saying.

But then again, they are not machine gods and machines can be quite unpredictable, so as long as they try, at least i am happy!! :D

Yeah it was funny how Day9 kept trying to analyze how stephano played and he basically said he builds some shit and wins, and also how he never looks at his replays either.

Haha yeah, Day9 has a tendency to overanalyze the play of instinctive players like Stephano or HuK, whereas most of the time it's just "Well, I build workers and shit that can attack, then micro some, and wait for the gg".

Edit: What I mean is that it can be analyzed and it's not simplistic at all, but oftentimes the player is not even conscious of why he makes such decisions, and the style is very hard to reproduce with the same degree of success.

I don't really agree on that. Day9 said so much time that you learn by doing stuff when "it feels right" and then refining it bit by bit. I remember him saying in one of his video something like "Look, you have the nessesary resources, so why not throw down this production facility". Surely he seemed a bit throw off by Stephano's answers, but I feel like it's mostly because he did'nt think it was to this extand.
The main problem with Stephano is that he has a bit of trouble explaining what he does, and formalizing it. And it's already the case when he tries in french so imagine in english... The best example is his explanation of why phoenixes are "shit" in this episode. You can understand what he means, but he is very bad a explaining it clearly. It's very Stephano-like..

Actually Day9 says everything and its contrary. Especially when he starts his sentence by "what i want you to do".

I like that SotG is back to its old disorganized 'skype chat with shit audio' self. I prefer it that way.

Day9 got the closest to what I was thinking, but where was the comment that using the N word period, is actually kinda wrong? Then to joke about it at the end of the show? You have to be kidding me. Orb dismissed people who are outraged as just being "HATERS".

When most of the people that have heard of you, have ONLY heard of you in the context of being a rager that uses racial slurs and then blatantly lying about it... those aren't "haters". Those are people annoyed that you're making the community look bad, and aren't sad to see you go.

note: I didn't watch this part of the episode, so I'm just trusting Huko that orb said that.

Edit: Just watched the Orb part....he still really doesn't seem to get it.

The disorganization is a part of the charm of SOTG, it isn't supposed to be completely professional and dry (boring), it's about a gang of guys who have good chemistry with each other discussing relevant topics in and around the game. My only gripe is sound and camera issues, but that's really out of JP's control due to skype being a bitch or it compensating for unstable / bad internet connections. You've seen the same happen on Live on Three or Inside the game many times, and I'm sure any other podcast/show out there.

SOTG lost some of that casual feel when they got picked up by MLG, so I'm more than happy with them being independent again.

Ah, great ! New Sotg ! Gonna grab mp3 and listen to it tomorrow at work !

I've never thank you guys for making this awesome podcast, so here it is guys: Thank you very much JP for organizing all of this and not being BW aware, thanks iNcontroL for commenting on every damn thing and being funny, thanks Tyler for not giving a shit (my favorite sotg 'pillar' btw) and being chill, thanks Artosis for in depth analysis (and your predictions ;] ) and being the biggest SC nerd of all time, thanks Day[9] for your enthusiasm and being yourself, also thanks to all the guest (especially Idra).
Keep up doing this show, cheers!

Kinda silly questions asking how Stephano gets to be so good. He's obviously holding a lot back and for good reason. A pro of his caliber is never going to divulge secrets to their progress. Its a competitive atmosphere, of course he's gonna keep his secrets.

The thing is, when Stephano says he plays on instinct, I don't think he's lying. Talented players are like that - they don't think about what they do, they just do it, and it ends up being good. I don't think he's able to explain it himself.

Meh every1 in this topic including day9 misreading what stephano said... it's obviously not ''build some shit''... it's just go with the flow and adjust to the situation aka what good rts players do... that some sc2 players (won't name the obvious names) can get away with being as predictable as a machine is just cause the macro is kinda poor in sc2... easy to replicate exact situations catering to repetitive players like that... but then still at the very top the player adjusting at the fly is king.
If you think you're good, you suck. If you think you suck, you're getting better.

NonY would be the best weatherman ever. "Today, pretty good. Tomorrow, not bad. Then maybe some rain, but it's all good." The world needs his laid back style applied to the art of meteorology.

Loved how Stephano was touching his face with both hands for some time and everybody was looking at skype like "wtf's he doing there?" until JP asked if he was putting on moisture ^^

i feel like i really disagree with their comments (and scoot's) about how 'if a player said orbs words, it wouldnt of been as bad'. qxc really nailed it for me, its about the overall popularity of a person. someone like day9 has +9000 nerd points for all the good things he does. dropping the n word would hurt his reputation a ton but he has a lot of reputation banked and he could get through it.

orb was/is a mid tier caster, not bad, decent following, and if he was still attached to eg was going places. but he doesnt have this huge bank of popularity to fall back on, so saying this, and doing this hits him harder
