This. I'd generally agree with your (Incontrol's) stance on EG, FXO, GSTL, and the risks therein, but misrepresenting Chae's position and calling him retarded (which is cool, right, since it's not the n-word?) was disappointing, especially after Idra called you out on how dissimilar your characterization of Chae was to Idra's experience with him. Yeah. For someone as smart as incontrol, it's baffling that he can't understand why he rubs people the wrong way. At first I just thought he was really sensitive and touchy the way he lashes out on the forums and on SOTG, but then he calls in to argue with Destiny and being a hypocrite about it; talking about self-improvement and catering to people's feelings (then refers to people as retarded). C'mon man... either ignore the criticism or own up and stop being defensive about EVERY single thing you could be wrong about.

His main points (especially in relation to the show) were on words the average person considers far worse then "fuck". If you watched the show it was really over two words and nothing much else.

Perhaps I was too zealous and didn't explain properly, I have no real issue with the use of the word as the topic of a discussion, as in your text book, or on SoTG. My issue is its general use as a derogatory word on the fringes of gaming culture. By this I mean specifically Destiny defending the language as being part of who he is.
I still prefer to not write or say it where possible, but that's just me.

In the Weapon of Choice discussion between them, DJWheat called InControl out on his use of the 'native-american' accent, and the KellyMilkies-incident. But InControl didn't even go there, because he knows he's not the right person to call out Destiny for the language he uses. Instead he just dismisses it as a non-valid argument, without even giving proper arguments for it. Now in SoTG, he's like if we want ESports to grow we need to ban 'dirty' words. If that's the road ESports is gonna take if it wants to grow, draining the soul out of the game, then we should ask our selves, do we really want that? I'd rather have a 'small' community where 'everything' goes, then the major corporation-esque, soulless community that we're supposedly heading to.
Every sport needs their characters, good or bad. InControl dismisses Destiny's viewers that they only watch Destiny because of his character, doesn't that apply to the majority of the SC2-community? Whenever IdrA gets into some meaningless 'fight' with another player, that adds to the whole excitement for the game, as we've seen with Cruncher and Minigun, recently. So if you're gonna call out Destiny for using the words rape and nigger, and you let your teammate tell another player to go kill himself, and don't call him out on that, you sir, are using double standards and are a hypocrite. I agree, if we took the words nigger and rape out of Starcraft, it would drain the soul out of e-sports. This is actually quite hilarious... ok I can agree that rape MIGHT be okay but the word ni**er? really? I mean that's RACISM for god sake, how can you possibly think that word should be allowed/used in this community? I'd like you guys to think of yourselves as a coloured person for a sec, how fun would it be to hear someone say "oh fucking ni**er" on their stream in front of 3k people? I don't think you'd like it at all, saying the word fuck isn't so harsh because it's not really personal, saying rape isn't really neither in this case, however it IS personal to call someone a ni**er as that may be their ethnicity. I don't care much for it but I know alot of people that would just look weirdly at that and think "what the hell did he just say?" If you think the soul of this community consists of the word rape and ni**er then I pity you. It's only racism if the context allows it, do you think when I'm jovially calling a friend 'my nigger', it's not racism. Context is everything. Btw, the person you're quoting is being sarcastic. How would you assess the context when someone uses the word nigger angrily at their opponent? Same way when someone says asshole, dick, loser, etc. Doesn't necessarily mean that someone is the rear-end of a human, or a male genitalia. It's a cuss-word, so that's the context. The reason why people get all riled up about it, gives the word it's meaning. I'm not advocating that people should yell 'nigger' at everyone, but saying that it shouldn't be used will make it more used, because then it becomes taboo.
Sorry but this just screams cop-out to me. By no reasonable standard is "nigger" a cuss word on the same level as dick and loser. lol

Good episode, but the only thing that annoyed me was the whole Incontrol misinterpreting the nicely written letter by one of GSL's commentators. He was really nice and trying to extend his hand to the foreign community and even said he couldn't wait to see the American fans to see their excitement for his game. Some people in that thread did talk about the whole foreigners scared of coming over to Korea, but he never mentioned any of that.
Also the whole FXO/EG argument to me is silly. EG is probably the better team because they have by far the best player in Idra, but both teams would more than likely get crushed in the GSTL. I would probably think that all the current foreign teams would get rocked with Naniwa's team being the only one who might have a chance at getting a victory or two. The Korean teams live together, eat together, practice together and know each other in and out. The advantages they have over the foreign teams who are widely spread out is gigantic.
Finally, I will miss you Incontrol and hope you have success in your other avenues, but think SotG could be just as good or even better depending on who becomes the fourth pillar. I really hope it is someone who watches GSL because I like there is a true lack of discussion on what I believe is the best tournament in the world for the game at the moment. Yeah, the finals suck, but there are awesome games every night and good storylines as well. They didn't even talk about the GSTL Finals and those had some of the best games this year.

I don't get it. You've already expressed your frustration and disgust for the "idiots" posting in this thread claiming that you're done with it all and yet you continue responding anyways? As for Mr. Chae's article I also thought there were no intentions in his wording to send an underlying that foreigners were "cowards" or express korean superiority. Your response on SoTG felt unecessarily aggressive or maybe you were referring to another article.

Incontrol, you can't act like a total dick to others and still expect people to be nice to you. I know you got by with that kind of behaviour in school, but this is the Internet. Nobody's afraid of you here. If someone thinks you're an arrogant, condescending, hypocritical prick, he will tell you so, without the risk of you beating him up. What's so hard to understand about that?

mostly as a joke but the people who he "jokes" about get offended. its not a joke when you're confronted and told to stop. a joke might get thousands of laughs but if even one person is offended its not a joke, especially if that one person is the subject of the joke. he crosses the lines of joke and offense way too often. also, apologies don't always work. you don't say something with the rationale of 'if people are offended i just have to apologize'. how often did he apologize on sotg or whenever he says something? when you're constantly apologizing or when you're constantly the center of controversy / criticism, there's a reason for it.
"hey, your mom is a stupid bimbo who's only good for one thing ... what you're offended. sorry. but anyway, hey your sister is a stupid bimbo who's only good for... offended? sorry. your aunt... sorry."
eventually he needs to understand that so long as he says controversial things or makes 'jokes' at another person's expense, that he'll be in the center of attention. unfortunately he's not like his counterpart idra who doesn't give a shit about what goes on in the forums / community. so if he doesn't like the negative attention that comes with the good, then the only solution is to stop.
as for the golden rule, i hope that you'll criticize me too when i make hypocritical statements, offend others, and get on a soap box to lecture others on how they should act (go to church, eat your broccolis, don't say 'shut the fuck up', go to college).

Shut the fuck up For someone who recently have been really outspoken about the necessity for mature language in the sc2 community, you have a really bad follow through. His main points (especially in relation to the show) were on words the average person considers far worse then "fuck". If you watched the show it was really over two words and nothing much else.
There was also a large argument regarding context. He just told another person to shut the fuck up, intending to fully direct his anger at another person in an unprofessional manner, after he argues about another person using words in a contextually innocent way. So apparently using slightly more innocent phrases in a spiteful manner is worse than using arguably worst words jokingly? And he can argue that this is conduct unbecoming of a community figurehead, which Destiny barely is, while he is the main person being the biggest league in North America?

Please stop. The n-word is not "arguably worse" than fuck. It is just worse.
