2-player version: Encouraged by this thread, i decided to make a 2-player version of this map, with the requirements given in the OP.

Comment: I made these mapchanges only to try and keep up with the requirements given in the map challenge. The gap between the semi-island bases is 14 hexes, making siege unable to shoot across it. The ledge behind the natural is not accessible by ground until the semi-islands minerals are mined out. The entrance to the natural expansions is 6 hexes across, making it easy to wall in. A small desctuctible debris is part of this wall and can be destroyed to make the entrance wider.

4-player version: Since my first Starcraft 2 map received a lot of positive feedback, I decided to make a 4-player version.
Features: Start locations: 4 Mining locations: 17 Symmetry: Perfect Balanced: I think so
Comment: This time my first priority was balance, looks came second. There are 2 Support Cruisers escorting the Battlecarrier, holding Island expansions, which are blocked by destructible debris. This is done to prevent terrans from flying there too early in the game. The map has lots of open spaces, but also narrow choke points in critical locations. Natural expansions are easily defendable. Possible third bases have a cliff with watch towers behind them, which are hidden behind line of sight blockers. The watch towers are also good for scouting if an opponent moves out of his natural or watching your own entrance. The Viking starting ramps are not accessible. I thought about making the parked Vikings destructible, so players can acces the cliffs with Reapers or Colossi.

To anyone complaining about balance issues between races; it's impossible to make a map that is 100% balanced for all races. I tried to make a mix, easily defended 2nd + open 3rd etc.
The destructibles on the islands have only 100 hp, preventing SCVs from removing them in the early game.
The ledge between the bases can not be used to park tanks, it is not accessible (as stated in the OP).

Is there any you can import a higher resolution custom texture for the giant rocket on the back of the map? I know that would be possible for warcraft 3 in UMS, but i don't know about melee maps.

you can play any map on melee settings, it just doesn't become an "official melee map" in Blizzard's strange terms if you try and have new units/camapign units/ect.
so things like this will go unaffected and yes you can totally import that high res texture.

Very cool looking map.
Possibly the battlecruiser parts are alittle bit too distracting for it to be a ladder map.
Maybe that is not true and it may not be your goal for it to be more then a fun map. but its the only thing i can think of right now.

I do not like the 1 gold expansion. I think that a map needs a even number of them to be balanced. Ah well, why have a gold in the first place? Not every map has to have a gold expansion, i say take out the gold and maybe add a watch tower, or something.

the design and originality is flawless.
as a fellow mapmaker i got some ideas gameplay wise:
- the ramp to the natural shouldnt be right at the choke. id suggest the diagnoal are you got there.
- make the choke at the natural a bit smaller (5/6 squares is my aim for natural chokes)
- i think the watchtowers make it too easy because its already small in those streets.
- find a way to make the streets bigger or tanks and forcefields will own everything. the hole in the back, the mashine thing in the front and cable stuff coming from the generator at the mains might be key to this.

I don't like how some spawns have a really short path and some have a long path, depending on chance. Rename the map metalopolis.

Remembers metalopolis too much, also i disagree with destructble rocks on islands, makes them really zerg favored compared to the other races.
should make mid bigger so it stops being metalopolis 2

Looks great, but I don't like those tower positions. Having the one tower in front of your base, gives you ample view of attacks from either side of your base, which makes it really easy to defend when you've got that much advanced warning and only having to invest a single worker, Zergling, Marine or Zealot to be a spotter. The best Tower positions, I think, are ones where either you need two towers to cover all angles, but you have to go into your opponent's territory to get it (e.g. Metalopolis) or they don't cover all possible attack angles on the ground (e.g. Lost Temple or Incineration Zone).

Dude, amazing map. My only rub is that it is redonkulously imba to have that little platform stick out in between the main bases of either side. I mean, seriously, T gets a couple tanks there and can assault 2 people's mains at the same time, without having to enter either base?

He's probably referring to the fact that this map is large enough to be a carrier...of battlecruisers. Thus, battlecarrier.

Very nice! Don't look too close at the battlecruiser the map is on, but the general layout of teh map seems very nice.
Very easy third though, you can do some really good macro games on it
But how is the balance between the top third and the bottom ones? they seem to have some kind of stuff there, but how does that work with unit LOS etc?

Here's some thoughts on balance/gameplay issues:
on't make the destructible debris too high on hp since I think people will very rarely commit their forces to killing a rock in an island. *Air distance is waay too close. I would suggest moving the minerals to the other side of the mains overlooking the naturals. That way air harass will be easier to defend. *I would like to see the pathways get a little wider. Right now it looks like there is no real space for flanking which is bad for battles.

Looks like it'd be a very functional map with a little bit of tweaking.
The major issue with this map imo are the watchtowers, they're way too close to the main!.. if you wanted for it to matter for gameplay in a way that you have vision over what's coming.. that'd be perfect.
But the problem is, if an enemy has control over the watch towers you can't really do much other than drops / flying units. besides it looks like you can abuse them hard with tanks and set up a super strong contain as terran there, or even units like HTs and Infestors could abuse them to some extend... its just WAY too close to the main.
Perhaps, you could put them somewhere INSIDE the main, this would give the map a unique functionality that we only see on that horrible map Kulas Ravine (to some extend).
With a watchtower in your main, the tendency on your map would probably be more macro oriented as it'd be harder to do sneaky stuff, so i'd place it on a spot that gives the players options to make more interesting games, having blindspots and such, for drops for example, you could make a ramp inside your own base, that leads to the watch tower, and only that, to give you vision of an area arround your base but not covering the entrance or the back (for drops).
The other thing that you could probably do, is widen the space in the middle gold expo, right now, that expo is basically only takable / defendable by terran with tanks, its positioned in a high risk zone and could make for an epic lategame where there is no more mining bases left and its a race to get it... but as it is... it looks like only tanks can secure it mid-lategame.
That's just my noobie opinions, beautiful design and a map with lots of potential, keep up the great work!
Edit: was just talking to Raelcun on vent about your map and he noticed something too, make sure those little peninsula thingys , the broken ramps to the gold exps space to the main base is shorter than a sieged tank range, cuz if it isnt ewww, same for blink stalkers, though it doesnt look it, i'd test for it just in case...

This version looks a lot less imbalanced than your 2 player version, and I think actually has a chance of being regularly played
Hell if you slightly modified it (maybe remove double mineral patches), it might even work as a 1v1 map. Though that ledge if it let's you siege main looks a tad nasty.

I absolutely love the style you chose for this map. Even if it doesn't play super well, I'll probably play a few games on it just because it looks like a joy to dick around on.
As far as actual feedback, I feel that the watchtowers are a bit too easily accessible especially early on, which may lead to the high-yield bases being either impossible to hold, or impossible to assault, depending how the early game plays out. I feel that this would be alleviated if the watchtower ramps were blocked off by destructible blockers with at least 1000 HP.

I don't even care if it's balanced. Granted being able to play this fairly would own, but this is the kind of thing that makes casual maps freaking awesome. Also, it will make rushing BCs even more freaking awesome in casual matchups.

Oh man, this reminds me of years ago, when i made a battle cruiser out of the space platform tileset with the default editor, it sucked. This, does not. I'd rather play this than metalopolis.

These unit-themed maps are so awesome! Hopefully they go up the second phase two starts or at least when the game releases. I'm going to play them a ton.

I'd like it if the entrance to the main was moved back a little so zerg ooze can get to it faster. Islands mineral setup needs an arc, and the D-Rocks there don't stop a CC from landing. You need to make the island smaller and place some 5 mineral chunks around so the CC can't land. As you have it now, no one is going to try and take that island unless they have a huge air army and some time to spare with it, Except for terrans who can land next to the D-Rock and kill it later.

I think it needs just a little bit more space (hah), or room. Maybe if the 3d expansions were removed and the gap in the middle was a little bit smaller? (awesome concept and execution though)
And one thing I've always wished for, an aerial indestructible object that zaps flying units between the two sets of two bases that are so close to eachother, so air isn't that much better depending on starting position.

Looks awesome. I'd remove the four expansions at the xel naga towers though. I'd prefer players to compete for the expansions to avoid too macro heavy games. Other than that it looks like a fun and balanced map to play on.

I'm not sure I like the watch towers at all, they seem really imbalanced.
Terran can just put a few tanks on that ledge and totally deny zerg of leaving his base until drop research or tunneling claws, because of the watch tower terran doesn't have to use flying units to get vision, which under normal circumstances can be shot down to provide a little cover.

This map is so awesome, probably the coolest map made so far. The design is epic and the balance seems ok.
The only thing I would recommend is to fix the mineral layout at all bases. Right now, they look kinda ugly cause they're all in a straight line or L-shaped and crammed into small spaces. I think you should change the formation into an arc by moving some minerals back or forth and spreading them out a bit. Kinda like how the minerals are on the ladder maps.
