Voice - casting is all about voice, intonation, and delivery. I'm not sure if you are familiar with the two gender archetypes of voice, but you can generally classify speech as somewhere on the spectrum between male and female styles of speaking. To be clear, of course, not all men speak in a masculine style and not all women speak in a feminine style. They're called that because there is a measurable gender bias in the distribution, but it's certainly not a dividing wall. Point being that feminine style speech is defined by softness, rising inflections, attention to feelings, and a number of other characteristics. Masculine style speech is defined by falling tones, firmness, matter-of-fact delivery, and is task oriented. Here is a great article by a female lawyer on the topic - the courtroom being one of those areas where a masculine style of speech, while not **always** the best choice, is absolutely needed in a lot of circumstances. What am I getting at? For e-sports casting in a game like starcraft - a high paced, competitive, rule-based game - knowing what you are talking about is only half the battle. You can know what you are talking about but also sound like you don't know what you are talking about even if what you are saying makes perfect sense. If you are going to cast and want to get better, I would say that studying and working on adopting the masuculine voice for your delivery should be a goal. Everything you say should be bold, firm, and matter-of-fact. Say it like you're certain of it without describing how you feel certain. Even when you don't know something or aren't sure, say in a way that sounds like you are certain you are not sure. Rising inflections, in particular, give the impression that you are not sure about what you are saying and that you are throwing the statement out for your co-caster as a "maybe?" which you are hoping they're going to back you up on. Really, this advice goes for all casters - guys and girls alike. A lot of guys don't do this right either so it's not really a guy/girl thing (like I was saying before). For something freaky....skip to 00:50 to bypass the opening ramble. + Show Spoiler +

I enjoy GLHF 1 team but must congratulate GunRun and Eleine on GLHF 2 for having such a calm and balanced posture. I never look for deep strategic insights when watching live casts, just want the caster to provide some dynamics to the events and help us enjoying the matches while statting some facts, and thats being achieved. Once again, thank you for the streams ![]()
