Imagine this scenario:

You are Terran

Enemy is Protoss with:
-5 colossi
-25 stalkers under that
-10-15 zlots leading the charge
-5-6 immortals
(we'll say there's an observer too so you can't just be like: Banshee cloak rush!!1111!!111)

how would you counter this?

I was the 'Protoss' when trying this out and figured that in a defence situation for Terran, they could have their nice little tanks out and wait for everyone to come attack them

however, if the Terran are the ones who need to push against this army, how would the colossus be dealt with?

I was thinking Vikings + M/M/M
However, if you send in 20 vikings first, wouldn't they be slaughtered by the stalkers?
with a range of 9 on the colossi, u can't get close with the ground army

likewise, if you sent in your MMM combo, wouldn't they get destroyed by colossi?

Vikings also have a range of 9 so they can hang out behind your MMM and just target fire colossi. Have some ghosts mixed in with your MMM, well placed EMP's absolutely demolish immortals, that will also soften the colossi to make them easier for the Vikings to take out.

MMM + ghost will deal with any Protoss army in the early and mid game. However, with the numbers of colossi and immortals you're talking about its either late game or you're letting the Toss get away with too much early on. If it is late game then you might want to add tanks to your army which will counter pretty much any unit he has as long as you're using ghost emp well. If you find that he's getting too greedy early on and then coming at you with a force like that, punish him with a push or harass.

I would say get your own siege unit, but, it gets out ranged like an old guy waving his cane at stalkers to get off his map. Petition for old siege range!

At any rate. MnM/emp and a few thor using barrage to one shot colossi that get emp hit.

4-5 tanks, slowly push up with viking support.
try to lure him into a choke (like on lost temple in the center) and bomb him with EMP and focus fire tanks and vikings on the colossus. When the colossus get into range for your MNM run away with them. Rinse and repeat 3-4 times and his army will be gone.

The good thing about this is you can remacro your MNM army SO FAST.

I'm wondering if anyone will try sniping observers with vikings and then using banshees... Just like SC1's sniping observers with wraiths but using 2 unit types ;p

"Okay, okay... Could you move those Colossi a little closer together and maybe get that one on the right to drape that shiny proboscis thing over his friend's shoulder... Oh well if that's his leg then he can keep it on the ground, but maybe cross it over his uh other leg, thing... And maybe have the Zealots move a little bit away from those Stalkers. The Colossus's shadow is interfering with the lighting for this shot..."

<<Nuclear launch detected>>

"Alright keep that Observer toward the back he's cloaked so we don't want any blurring... And maybe..."
MrBitter: Phoenixes... They're like flying hellions. Always cost efficient.

Vikings are the only real counter. Both EMP and M&M can't get close enough if the Colossus has range researched. You have to get through the Immortal/Zealot/Centry/etc wall.

to be honest im starting to think that bio in a long game isnt very good, you have to kill them with a timing push midgame or early game or they will just rip you apart in the late game with 5 colossi etc, mech needs to make a come back

this is what i thought as well, i guess by then the bio army really can't have that much hope
how much range do BC yamatos have now? it used to be 10 before in BW

viking/ghost would be alright, just gotta prey the vikings dont get pwned by stalkers

also gotta hope the ghost doesnt get found or else...

25 banshees

but to be more realistic

MMM + ghost

toss usually cant afford upgrades when they make htat much gas intensive units so u can probably be 2-2 vs 0-0-0

stalkers don't own anything

ghost with cloak/emp and some viking support should take down colossi fast

haha i did it, it was in FFA tho, which are Nothing like real games. I actually did it twice the second time blowing up my own base to wipe out his army. haha I had mass marines and medivacs. (it was ffa, i like to win with t1 units haha) and i threw in 2 ghosts. My opponent went mass BC's i used my medivacs for sight my marines for damage, and call down a nuke, and then emp'ed all of his BC's, he laughed and gg'ed.
The 2nd nuke was a "i just lost over half of my army fighting the terran and now u attack -_-" desperation nuke lol. The protoss player waited until i made the terran quit and then rushed me with 200 supply of zeals/stalkers/colossi so i nuked them in my own base lol.
oo and i agree siege tanks are not that great against P at all.. speed zeals or blinking stalkers = ur siege tanks get 1 volley then "well.. were dead" not to mention they blow up their own MmM if ur opponent has zealots. I have seen SOO many games where a Terran was blowing up half his own army because of siege tanks DOMINATED his marines shooting at zealots. IMO siege tank range isnt viable for anything besides guarding your ramp. Its just too short.

Hrm.. I tried vikings vs stalker/collosus (only once so far though so I'm not claiming to be a micro expert on it), and the whole "vikings have a range of 9 zomg!" thing didn't really... work that well:

I was defending a cliff expo against the toss army so the only thing that was able to hurt my scv's were the collosi (by cliffwalking). There were destructible rocks preventing his stalkers from getting to them. So I thought exactly that: hey, vikings have a range of 9!" and I parked my vikings as far away from the cliff as I could.. Somehow they still got killed by stalker fire, even though I tried to hold position them as far back as I thought they could still fire.
Anyways, I'd be curious if anyone has any replays of themselves microing vikings against a colossus/stalker army, cause I couldn't even pull it off when I had only vikings to worry about.
