The thing about changing the resource and supply value of the overseer is it's exactly what Blizzard doesn't want. Remember, they already used to cost more gas, and contaminate used to cost less energy. High-level ZvZ used to have a lot of hatchery contaminate and overall annoyance due to the low energy cost of the ability and every other matchup would be slightly more annoying as a result of the high gas cost of the overseer when units like DTs or cloaked bansh/ghost came out. The ghosts were particularly painful back then because of their power against zerg (snipe pretty good) because you're still morphing an overseer for detection and the old snipe devastated the 100gas overseer, making it essentially worthless. I'm not really sure if making the game more annoying is what they want to do (at least not for zerg).

From a Terran or Protoss point of view, I feel like a more expensive and more "able" overseer is somehow less of a threat than a dirt cheap and less "able" overseer, because it is primarily a mobile detector, secondarily a scout (changeling is cheap, overseer also faster than overlord) and thirdly a harassment unit (harassment because contaminate does not act as a battle support ability like fungal / transfuse).

Essentially, by buffing its tertiary role: the ability to harass, you're forced to weaken its primary and secondary role, which are much more important. Also if you consider the fact that Zerg players are getting pretty good at harassing, denying expanding and keeping enemy army size down, buffing their ability to hamper enemy production slightly at the cost of safety at home could actually have a negative impact on the use of overseers in general because their viability suffers.

yeah cheap detection is needed. thats why i suggested to give the overlord 2 options.

1. morph into the old overseer which is 50/50 and 0 supply (but remove contaminate and maybe give it new scouting spell).

2. morph into new spellcaster which is sth. like 50/150 and 2 supply (3 spells of which one is contaminate) and gives zerg a non allin way of air harrass.

IMO, the overseer is fine the way it is now. I see changelings used quite often, especially in ZvZ and contaminate is still used from time to time. IMHO, you can't really have a "better" contaminate spell in the game becuse in ZvZ you would be able to camp the opponent's hatcheries and win the game by constantly contaminating, since zerg has so few production facilities.

Overseer isn't the "uber best" unit but I really think it's fine the way it is now. It has its' place in SC2 and we shouldn't really push the issue.
You mean I just write stuff here and other people can see it?

Jesus, the Overseer is a mobile detector for 0 suply.

Also Z's must realize that ALREADY have a insane plus: Map vision. No other race have the Map vision that Z have. And the changeling is a good and balanced buff to the unit.

Why in the world the overseer have to be even more??

i don't mind it the way it is. it fills its role now while creating few if any problems, and it's 'zergy' since any overlord on the map can morph into one once lair is out. contaminate is kinda lame but again doesn't seem to cause any problems. maybe there could be a more expensive hive tech third morph, but that's kinda pointless now that the viper is in the game.

The overseer is supposed to be a scouting unit, not a spellcaster. The abilities it has are to compliment the scouting factor.

Also contaminate is pretty underused and underrated. You can delay some critical research. Eg. Opponent pushes out right before stim is done. Contaminate and he's at a disadvantage because he didn't go for combat shield first or something. Or delay siege mode when you are doing a roach bane all in.
ZvZ is like a shitty apartment: Roaches and Fungal Growth everywhere.

thats the thing. contamination is NOT a scouting but a harrassment spell. that combined with the fact blizzard stated overseer/corruptor are boring and they want to do something means it is not only for scouting purposes. but since thats their main purpose right now i suggest to split the overseer into one for scouting only and one spellcaster which costs supply.
