I just started on the Challenge Modes and am already having a hard time with the first one. I think it's the first or second round there's a group of banelings, and group of zerglings and a group of mutalisks. You're given 1 tank, like 6 marines a hand full of hellions and a medevac. I want gold and can handle most of the other rounds but I can not for the life of me kill the Muta's without losing a marine. Help? A replay would rock if you have a good strategy.

I've been using all the hellions for the Zerglings obviously.
I've been using the tank and the one ghost that I forgot to mention for the group of banelings.
And the marines and medevac for the mutas.
Who crapped in the bunker...

You can sustain 10 losses and still get a gold. It's hard to kill the mutas with zero losses, you need to juggle marines in and out of the medivacs to keep them alive. After you finish all 3 rounds, you are able to go back and replay only the rounds you want to in order to improve your score to get below 10.

Meh i did that and lost 0 units. All hellions go to the lings. Let the tank run into all the banelings (it will have 8Hp left over) and then use the marines/medivacs for the mutas. Ohh and you also have a ghost. So before you even hit start, control group your ghost to 3, marines to 2, medivacs to 1. Put ur medivacs in front of your marines (the mutas will attack the medivacs before the marines because they draw more aggro) Stim up all ur marines and A move, get off as many snipes as possible with ur ghost, and run ur medivacs back before they die. Should easily get away w/ 0 deaths. PsyStarcraft loses a few units in his video i believe...

Snipe banelings with ghost/tank, medivac marine on mutas, kite lings with hellions. You will lose a few on the muta but just stim once right before they get there and you should do well enough to get gold.

No need for ghost. The tank can take all of the banelings and still live.

Banelings: Siege mode with tank, cloaked ghost using snipe. My siege tank got hit by one baneling, but no losses. (apparently the ghost isn't needed. Now I know.)

Mutas: Marines and medivacs. I used stim just before mutas show up. Lost 1 marine. Idk if stim is optimal there though, I had to micro carefully since they all started with low health.

Zerglings: Hellions. Just micro them a little and you won't lose any.

vs the mutas i took marines + ghost + dropship
i let ghost take the initial hits and then i used dropship to lift him @ red/orange HP.

after that u may lose 1-2 marines (without micro).

Banelings - Sieged tank right behind the depot. Since the comp needs 5 banelings to kill a depot, a single tank shot leaves them with 4 banelings(instawin), and a second might even kill another two or three.

Zerglings - Hellion micro. Reasonably easy.

Mutalisks - cloaked ghost snipes six times, then just straight up attacks. Marines stim before mutalisks arrive so you get some healed back up.

I am having trouble doing this challenge without losing any marines. Best I've done is lose 1 marine.

Here's how you get 0 units lost, tried to be detailed:

vs. Banelings: 1 tank + 2 hellions. siege it close to the dome, far down south. Have the hellions further top. Tanks will fire first, then attack with hellions and just run away, easiest ever.

vs. Zerglings: The rest of your hellions, pretty straight-forward, just run n' gun.

vs. Mutas: This is the tricky part, you'll usually get 1/2 deaths here unless you have perfect micro, here's how: All marines, 2 medivacs and the ghost.
Pre-preparation:
Run the ghost up in the middle of the depo and the dome. Spread your marines out as far away from the dome as you can, towards the middle. Put your medivacs slightly infront of the marines. Have 4-5 marines slightly further ahead, so that you know which ones will get hurt.

The pull:
As soon as the event starts, stim your marines. Now select your ghost, and queue up sniper rounds as fast as you can, then shift-attack him towards the marines. Now, since the marines/medivacs are so far away, the mutas will come in kind of slowly after hitting the depo a bit.

Here's the important part:
Your medivacs will tank the first couple of hits. The splash will damage the marines up front, so you've gotta pick up all the yellow-ish life marines from the front line, and run the medivacs to the back then unload manually (clicking the portraits, not using the d-button).

For the banelings you can actually get away with just the tank. Even if every single baneling hits the tank it will still live (and all the banelings will have exploded)

I would just like to brag and say I did every single of the basic missions (all levels, all races) without losing a single unit. Got nothing for it though : (

I used a couple of hellions to kite with the tank v banelings still had enough to deal with the lings and no losses but yea its a waste doing that after seeing the tank survive on a replay. Mutas do splash damage so spread out your marines and as someone else said abuse the aggro on them. With a ghost and stim (i kept forgetting about stim) should be easy.

Tactical Command was the hardest one for me to do, just because I don't really play Terrans at all, and my micro with them is horrible. I ended up having to use the guides people posted, with it up on my secondary monitor just so I could follow along. :/

The fact that you were able to get through those without a single unit lost makes me cry myself to sleep a little, especially since I'm Korean.
I cast the spells that make the people fall down.

How'd you do the protoss missons? Ironically, that's my main race and it's the only one that I can't get gold on.

Hi, this is tangentially related and not worth a new thread. Did anyone else have difficulty with the achievements/awards actually unlocking? I completed Tactical Command with 3 units lost, it came up saying Gold Performance but my progress is 0/27 and I don't have the gold medal.

I was connected to bnet at the time too.
