My complaint is that most Korean-Americans don't care about soccer/figure skating/greco-roman wrestling yet they go apeshit only during olympics when one of the koreans place or get close to placing. Korea probably wouldn't care about golf/archery/skating/taekwondo etc, if they sucked at those events though... I guess it's just coincidence that they like those things and are good at those things too. This is how popularity for a sport emerges, you follow an idol, and she becomes the figurehead for that sport to become popular.

Golf = social status in korean culture. Taekwondo + Archery = Traditional heritage sports. Skating = Popular in korea as a pastime.
But your point is still valid...I just feel like with the above sports, korean people would still care and talk about it even if koreans weren't involved whereas with figure skating Koreans wouldn't really care about it if Yuna disappeared.

^ they didnt give a shit about figure skating before Yuna appeared so your point is proven i guess
but your post saying korean americans to shut the fuck up and stop pretending to follow sports that they didnt follow previously is overdoing it. seeing a korean doing well in something makes us proud, even if we know jack shit about what it actually is, and we cheer and go crazy over it. something wrong with that? + we liked soccer to begin with, we just went overboard in worldcup 02 because it was at home + it was the first time our team made it past RO32 (we made it to RO4 i believe)
edit: didnt see your post saying you were done sry

God, this thread was my first post in TL, and I don't regret it one bit! Go Yuna!

Well Korea was and is one of the great powers in speed skating (All their medals thus far are from speed skating). I think figure skating had to come one day.
Perhaps we can get hockey too. But that's just my wish (Miracle on Ice, baby).
BTW, Miracle on Ice was one of the greatest things I've ever seen. Such a historic upset.

+1
Nobody gave a rat's nut about figure skating before Kim Yu-na the great. I'm a korean by the way. No, not a korean-american. A korean. The only reason I started even remotely caring about figure skating is because of her. This is how sports become popular.

Seriously, korea's group mentality is like fucking hitler germany: One athlete or team places high in any sport and the entire fucking nation is behind them with crazy behavior. I know like 30 people adults and people my age that are telling me how great Kim Yuna is even though they don't follow figure skating at all. Same shit with World cup 02.
this is one of the most fucking retarded posts ive ever read here

Quit with the korean bashing, Australia is at least as fanatical about it's sporting people. When they win at anything, no matter how obscure, we go crazy over them. It's pretty much universal and to compare south korea to hitler germany is just plain racist.

I actually missed today's performance. Is there any way to catch up on what happened?

i just dont get the obsession over korean women people have here 0_o
label a thread, "SNSD" and throw some pics in there and that thread will go apeshit for 20 pages. not because the music is any good but because the girls are cute.
i dont get it. i mean attractive women are attractive women -- get over it.
like I don't make a thread a saying "zOMG guys jessica alba is gonna be in this movie and look how adorable she looks in this bikini -- im seeing it for the 3rd time in IMAX!!"
that's something teenage girls do for shitty movies like twilight and dear john...
-----
anyways, im not saying she doesn't deserve attention for being a talented skater, and im glad you are all supporting her.
but really, i find it odd that TL seems to need to worship some sort of korean girl like she's a goddess and drool over every wallpaper and gif file available like a bunch of school girls

There are like 3 pics max in this thread along with with less than 5 YT clips (mostly in the OP) and you complain about 'drooling' over pics? Stop trying to derail the thread and incite flames just because you clearly can't see past the superficial.
