Given Ange has seemingly got a tune out of basically every player under him, it is interesting indeed. Even a Werner who isn’t fully on his game always gives you energy and the pace to stretch a game which is useful in itself, and if he can replicate his last few pre-Chelsea seasons you get a whole lot more again. Very good signing IMO, worst case you don’t see much of him and he doesn’t displace Tottenham’s current forwards all too often, but is an option if there’s an injury crisis. Best case you get a very potent player indeed

Speaking of injuries, Trent out for a few weeks, we have Joe Gomez playing both RB and LB now. Dude is going to cover the entire pitch at this point. I really hope he doesn't get injured too, he's been immense for us but has been playing so many minutes. Bradley gets the start today, he did well against Martinelli so hopefully he can replicate that performance for us today.

Its so depressing, Poch is a serial loser at this point with his attitude, doesn't help he plays people in the wrong position every week. Turned Enzo into some really poor midfielder and then yesterday awful awful performances, tops off with only 3 players going over to the fans after the game....they made a 4 hour plus trip on a tuesday night to watch that and only Thiago Silva, Colwill, Broja and Gilchrist (Academy kid) went over to apologise/clap the fans, thats disgusting!!! Also how Poch treats Thiago Silva is utter disgraceful!

Just need to get through these next few games, no losses (I'm ok with a draw to Arsenal away) and we'll have a full squad to terrorize the league with coming into mid Feb.

Pick one! I’ve seen players get it across all three of those criteria and they’re rather different. Tbh if it was just being the outright best footballer every year, if anything Messi would probably have more of these awards than he does currently. Also they should just tie it to the season, doing it on an annual basis is just a bit wonky. It’s just easier to mentally assess who had a great season, with its buildup from early days to business end than to consider who had a great year encompassing half of both

Meanwhile other candidates had stellar performances in the best leagues and competitions in the world, you cant compare this.

Meanwhile other candidates had stellar performances in the best leagues and competitions in the world, you cant compare this. I’m saying historically if ‘who had the best season and is the best footballer?’ as criteria was used, Messi would have more than he does. Ronaldo won one in a season his team didn’t actually win anything, but he was individually incredible. If you use the same criteria for this recent award, it wouldn’t be Messi. But if the criteria is ‘who grabbed the World Cup by the balls?’ I mean it’s him. The problem is shifting the criteria continuously, just pick one and stick with it. Cannavaro had an incredible World Cup and won it, he wasn’t out of this world amazing that year at club level. Wesley Sneijder takes Inter to a treble, the Dutch to a World Cup final and doesn’t win it. Modric wins it by taking Croatia to the World Cup final but with a less impressive club season. Decide what the award is meant to actually be, and run with it. Is it the best footballer, or is it the footballer who achieved the most as part of a unit while providing clutch moments at critical times? Until these bodies can actually decide, complaining about inconsistency in an inherently inconsistent award seems redundant to me.
