Szobo hammy injury, thank god we don't have a PL game for 3 weeks... hope it's just a minor thing like Gravenberch's injury.
Team looks great, just needs better finishing. Gonna be tough with Salah gone.

Midfield we could hunt for another 6, but then we'd already be very stacked when Endo returns with Endo/Macca/Thiago/Bajcetic. Adding a 5th player there seems excessive. Our current starting midfield would be Macca/Jones/Szobo, who would you move to give more playing time? For defenders, I do agree with signing another CB, preferably a right footed CB. As it stands, we have VVD/Konate as our starters, with Quansah on the bench. But if we re-sign Matip to a one year deal, he'd have to understand his playing time will be cut for the new arrival. Ultimately, the next set if of fixtures, outside of Arsenal away, all seem like games we can win without any additional transfers, and end of January is when we see a bunch of players hopefully returning (Robbo, Thiago)

Nunez could actually fit well on the right wing, he's had a lot of assists coming from the right (and also scored his two goals against Newcastle from the right side as well). I'd actually be willing to see a Diaz, Gakpo, Nunez frontline. I don't like Gakpo on the wing particularly because he doesn't track back enough. The problem is his hold up play is not as good as Nunez, which is something you want in your 9. It's all kinds of weird right now.

I’m sure there are plenty of examples but I can’t think of many off-hand, it gets hard to remember transfer windows as opposed to complete teams the longer you follow the game! Very impressive so far, I think Liverpool will probably just have enough gas in the tank to pull through injuries and Salah’s absence to at least stay in contention when they’re back to full strength I suppose it’s maybe so obvious people aren’t mentioning it, but it’s been a pretty damn fascinating first half to the Prem. Liverpool and City haven’t hit their high 90s points peak and pulled away, Villa are punching above their usual weight and the likes of Spurs and Arsenal are still in the mix too

I think Jota is maybe their most intelligent forward, probably their best finisher outside of Salah. May actually be more clinical but he can’t beat a man as easily Nunez is the man for stretching the play and holding the ball up, a bit erratic but dangerous. Diaz is probably the best currently fit at playing wide, beating a man and more traditional wing play. Gakpo for me is kind of decent in quite a lot of areas, but doesn’t beat any of Liverpool’s forwards on their respective strengths, if that makes sense. For my money if they go with Diaz/Nunez/Jota, where Darwin provides a traditional number 9 focal point, but he and Jota sometimes rotate centrally/out wide that could work nicely.

He's a great all around player that is a plug and play in any formation, but when we want to operate at our best, we need our specialists up front. I think the combination of Nunez/Jota up front will be good for us while Salah is out. Nunez creates so many chances, and Jota is our most clinical finisher outside Salah so while we're going to struggle against Arsenal away, I think we should be ok elsewhere to make up for Salah while he's gone.

This shows how much better Endo is making Liverpool and what a great player he is. In a world where teams keep crying about holding sixes (Bayern with Tuchel) Endo was totally overlooked by almost every club in the world. And he was able to fit into the Premier League within a few months. He started FIVE games within 13 days and he was good/great in all of them. Please give some props to the Japanese captain.

I’m extremely reluctant to given your constant overhyping of Japanese players and your dissing of my boy Tommy Tuchs :p But no, fair play the Japan captain who was a consistently high performer in the Bundesliga, and for a modest price was always going to be a decent squad acquisition. I didn’t really understand the complaints. I think what I, and many others weren’t necessarily expecting was him forcing his way in and potentially being the first choice in Liverpool’s midfield 3 and giving them their best balance. I’ve been in night shift hell recently so haven’t been following the wider game as much as I’d like, but I have heard he’s been doing well and your linked article lays out some of the numbers. In fairness to Tuchel he had his 6, a player I was mystified more weren’t in for, and that collapsed, I’d be moaning too! There aren’t THAT many top 6s around, especially not for cheap. Gone are the days 6s were unglamorous and consummately undervalued. Recruitment has to do a fine job to sniff out a bargain and Liverpool’s appear to have pulled it off here
