What is Griezmanns bewt position btw? Because hes world class anywhere imo

Dude is probably best as a second striker/10 floating around centrally, . Not a huge amount of teams play with one these days. He’s pretty good in a bunch of places really. Still baffled to this day that Barcelona bought him (or Coutinho prior), like the one team in the world there’s a player who does what he does, better in Messi

For France I like him in midfield these days, but that’s as much because France don’t really have a player who can do what he does there, whereas they’ve got a load of good forward options.

As for the international football style, it’s just a time thing. If what the best club sides do is the equivalent of ‘just play like Serral/Maru’, I mean yeah that’s the cutting edge of StarCraft and the best way to play that we know about.

But if you gave me an underdog player to coach for a LAN that’s coming up in a few weeks, I’m more likely to have success giving my charge a few cheeses and sharp timings to bridge that gap rather than the harder but ultimately better option of upgrading their entire macro.

I think it’s a big advantage Spain have, they may not always have the absolute best squads but they don’t really have to grapple with the question of how roughly they want to play. There’s a pretty defined blueprint already there.

They might struggle one day if there’s a gap in Barcelona’s production line of really great ball playing midfielders but I suppose they’ll have to cross that bridge when it comes!

Absolutely! South Korea's fourth-place finish at the 2002 World Cup was significantly influenced by Guus Hiddink's very early formation of the team. He used his network to arranged practice matches with top tier European clubs, giving South Korea a significant head start.. While many other NT's weren't even close to finalizing their squads South Korea were doing tactical drills. I once read that during negotiations Hiddink had also demanded the selected players to prioritize NT commitments over club commitments (don't quote me on this - I've always believed this to be true but never verified).
It has a strong technique, but it lacks oo.

It would make the Perugia President losing his shit over Ahn Jung Hwan (maybe not his name) for scoring versus Italy anyway!

Another interesting theory about that World Cup is that as it was played earlier than usual to dodge Asian typhoon season, recovery time was even less. And perhaps not coincidentally a lot of the nations with big contingents playing in the elite European leagues suffered.

Not just European countries but Argentina too, who were phenomenal in qualifying and also bombed out early:

The player comparison between Spain and Germany is pretty 50/50:

Normally I would agree but Neuer and Schlotterbeck showed this season, that they are prone to catastrophic errors.

Neuer is back to his old self. As for Schlotti: Yes he basically makes one big error/ game. It's his thing. Other than that he is incredibly solid. And for Rüdiger: He is arguably the best CB in the world right now. He is gonna eat Lamine Yamal alive. Or so I hope

Why are you even discussing Schlotterback? Is there any reason to assume he would start?

Schlotterbeck started against denmark so it might be possible he plays tomorrow too. But I would pick Tah again instead of Schlotti.

But for that one faux pas he played great. He is also faster and more agile than Tah I'd assume. Better against quick Spanish feet. And he had a goal (which got VAR'd) and an assist.
Reading it back like that, why wouldn't you assume he would start? :D

Tah started all 7 games this year before his suspension. I don't think Schlotterbeck will get his spot because of one okay game.

This. Also, the backup was a part of this evaluation and füllkrug is better than whatever Spain has. As sad as that is.

Strikers lately have been lackluster to be honest, I feel like there are less strikers impressing me in this generation than before.

Well that is partially because teams dont focus on a pure striker these days. Coaches want forwards that can occupy several positions and be mobile and work for the team.

As for the people above, as mentioned i dont like morata but havertz is no striker. Joselu does the same as fulkrug kind of and oyarzabal....well no comments xD

in the new generation (my arbitrary cut off is players under 25), there is literally only 1 striker in the world that would be mentioned with the strikers of old, and that is haaland. literally only one

Doesnt qualify as strictly under 25, since he's 25 years old now. Given that his career starting taking off when he was around 17 years old, it's not unlikely that about 50% of his career lies in the past now. Definitely not a newcomer by any football standards (though it's debatable whether the same applies to Haaland).
Also, I really felt old writing this.

Also, Mbappe doesn't fit the bill. He scores lots of goals, yes, but he isn't a classic 9. He is more an exemplar of the "modern" striker Kobrakay described: he will roam, appearing on either flank or in the center. Not as versatile as Griezman, but definitely not a player who will always be the front man running into the box to bang a ball into the net. I agree with evilfatsh1t that Haaland is probably the only one (or at least the only one at a world class level right now).

The list is obviously not world class players. Mbappe is in that list. It's classic 9s, like (Brazilian) Ronaldo, van Basten, or in current play, Suarez, Kane or Lewandowski.
