He certainly looked more physically dynamic than he did last World Cup anyway, I imagine being settled into a groove over in Saudi has been better prep for him than that club season and the issues with a United/his personal life were prior to that tournament

He actually looked useful yesterday and both goals were very good. He also missed a sitter for the hattrick but cant complain about yesterday!

He looked genuinely good against Ireland, and not just as a poacher but he was linking play well too. The flipside of that is that it’s Ireland. I am a bit skeptical sometimes with Ronaldo, he’s just such a transcendent figure that I think he can almost intimidate those around him. But on the other hand I think if he can handle being a member of the squad rather than the man, he can absolutely be a huge asset. Interested to see how it goes! I think if Portugal are bossing the ball, the likes of Felix, Leao and Ramos running all over the place and tiring teams out for Ronaldo to come on and make hay might be the way to go.

No Ronaldo for me, or Portugal players at all. Thought about Jota but I'm not confident he will start ahead of Leao.

However it appears that maybe did so to preempt being sacked.

I think he left before he was going to get sacked in winter if Dortmund is not at least 2nd in the league. He was close to getting kicked last winter too, I was not a fan of his tactical decisions anyway (why else would he need two extra assistant coaches that came when it was not looking great) but he was a great figure for the club, sad to see this failed so hard.

I can’t really see them stepping up in the league, or replicating that European run either. Bit harsh on the face of it but think that CL run is was papering over quite a few cracks

I'm really undecided about him. Part of the problem is when your first job is already a high stake one. Like they kinda do with Nuri Shahin now... IMO Better to start in a second league somewhere to get a groove going and to know what you want to play. But obviously nobody is gonna say no to an opportunity like this
