He told the VAR what he saw and that this wasn't a foul to him and the VAR confirmed that he didn't miss anything, meaning there's no need for a video review. However, Zwayer missed the legs making contact (he only saw the shoving) and the VAR didn't correct him. This is not first and foremost Zwayer's mistake.
Regardless, he probably couldn't have rewatched the Reus situation anyway. Haaland was stated by the DFB to have been offside ahead of the foul. So what would have more likely happened is we would have had a 3 minute break for them to set up the calibrated offside lines. And then Zwayer would have called offside and people would still be upset.

Again, paraphrasing from Zwayer's explanation right after the game, he saw that the ball touched Hummels' arm during play. He contacted the VAR because he wasn't able to see the position and movement properly. The VAR told him the arm was in an unnatural position and advised Zwayer to review. He didn't spend a long time making his decision sure, but if seeing the scene twice makes him think it's clear-cut that's fine.

Bellingham is fined 40000 € for his statement about Zwayer. I always wonder what these fines are based on. It sounds like a lot but it's probably not even a week's salary for a pro on that level. Barely noticeable in the grand scheme of things then, unless they have really bad spending habits. Does that actually work as a deterrent?
Who knows. But it's good for him and Dortmund that he doesn't have to serve a ban. He's an important player.

Ajax gonna join a special group of teams today - ones that have gotten 6 straight wins from a champions league group stage.
Prior to this season, that was only achieved by five clubs (since 93, when the CL adopted a group stage format): Real Madrid (twice), Barcelona (in 2002-2003 - not even the Pep team that was absurdly dominant managed this), Bayern Munich, and.. Spartak Moscow. (Who were reallly good during the early 90s). (Edit: I actually missed one - PSG made it in 94/95. They only got 12 points however because wins only gave 2 points this season.) This season, we're probably seeing it from three teams - Bayern and Liverpool (along with Ajax).
Mighty impressive!

Besiktas, from the same group, joins a less exclusive bunch of teams - the only ones to get 0 points from 6 matches of a group stage. (This has happened a bit more than 20 times during the same period. Mostly just really small teams from smaller counties, but also Benfica, Marseille, Villareal - and - Spartak Moscow. For anyone about to design a football pub quiz, 'which team is the only one to have gotten both 18 and 0 points from a champions league group stage' seems like a fun question to ask. )

Haha, thanks, that's a fantastic fun fact...wonder how many football quiz experts would know that

After reading your post I rewatched the game highlights a bunch.
The Haaland situation is arguable. I mean yes the contact started outside the box but it seems it was either more intense inside the box or Haaland resisted at first and wanted to drag the foul inside. But not giving it at least a freekick in a prime position was an obvious and glaring mistake!
Reus situation could have been offside but after rewatching it 4 times it was hell a close offside if at all.
The Hummels penalty: Yes you are right. It was very unlucky because I think Hummels had no idea what he was doing (intend) but he was still enlarging his body with a active movement.

Also future pub quiz question, after Ronaldo in 2017-18, who became the second player to score in all matches of the group phase?
Probably a bit easy now but it’ll be a killer one in a few years!

Haller has more goals in the champions League than the Eredivisie as well

Haha we really need some centre midfielders xD I really hope Ajax don't get Chelsea. Or Atleti. All the other teams, even PSG, I wouldn't really mind.

Regarding the haaland thing - it is always ruled based on where the foul starts. And potential free kicks are not actionable by VAR. But you are right that zwayer himself could have called it.

Tuchel saying chelsea has a problem with their attitude :D arrogant younglings!

they had conceded 6 goals in their first 19 matches of the season, now 9 in the past 4. Prolly worth addressing.

The biggest issue is our midfield is all injured, Jorginho Kante Kovacic are all out injured, Kovacic and Kante for significant periods and Jorginho needs rest (has back issues) When those are not playing we have big holes and that means teams just walk through us which is an issue.
I am not too concerned cuz these players are going to be fit soon, and our forward line is all fit.
Tommy Tactics calling the squad out for attitude is good though, because we keep throwing leads and such which is his issue.

Oh yeah what happened between that 19 game streak and that 4 game streak is indeed, Kanté became injured. Most essential player award goes that way.

If you're doing FPL remember to transfer out any Spurs or brighton players in the next couple of hours
