I think going with the franchise style ownership will make it so that a team will be bought out and move to a different city\country is inevitable.

If our government stops work permits for players in the ESL then all of our teams will have to move, because they won't be playing in England any more.

The latest agreement is 30% of total revenue in Europe is given based on "History" performance in Europe rather than giving it to teams who finish 1st 2nd or 3rd in the competition lol. I dislike UEFA as much as the next guy, but they were pressured into changing the CL structure/payouts by the teams that now form the SL, because it wasn't enough for them.

I'm treating all of the big 6 as bad guys, and I will until they change owners. Liverpool & United were always the enemy, but now City too and Chelsea. 'Merseyside Reds' haha

That said, I am quite surprised to see uefa as a lesser evil lol Franchised club in a closed league is really a pretty stupid exportation of an american system which doesn't fit the european foot system. To the regular football fans, don't you think the charm of the biggest opposition in cl comes from their uncertainty and rarity ? Cuz watching every week liverpool real or juve City will break it for sure.

I had interesting conversation about the proposals with a few friends. One of them quite openly said that after a year or two he'd want to watch the games regardless of the outrage. I think that illustrates the urgency to kill this ESL nonsense right off. If it starts it won't stop and top level football is even less about the game and more about corporate interests.

That would be nice news, i do hope my club does the right thing now. It looks more than likely the ESL is going to fail before it gets started with the backlash etc and the government issues, so lets just do the right thing and quit it now. The first club to do this and bail on this project will be applauded.

That's, like, the number 1 scenario for me.

The ones that did and now are bailing out are just doing what they should

UEFA is in discussions with Centricus Asset Management over a 6 billion-euro ($7.2 billion) financing package to overhaul its flagship soccer tournament and stop plans for a new breakaway Super League, according to people familiar with the matter. The Switzerland-based sporting body is working with Centricus on a plan to fund a new-look UEFA Champions League tournament, the people said, asking not to be identified discussing confidential information. https://www.aljazeera.com/economy/2021/4/19/uefa-discussing-7-2bn-deal-with-centricus-to-halt-super-league

The Super League is a reality. 100%. Unstoppable. Leagues, UEFA and FIFA will go through the hoop because without these 15 great clubs their tournaments do not survive. Florentino did not swallow with these arbitrations, schedules, calendars and economic distribution: he was preparing his winning move. Because it will be. The Super League is NOT going to kill the national leagues: a large solidarity fund is being prepared with the INGENT income that will be generated. And five of the 20 spots (those of non-founding teams) are open to promotion and relegation. The system is perfect and nothing unsupportive Expanding the squads is being studied, because the 20 members of the Super League will continue to play in the national leagues and the calendar will be demanding. UEFA or FIFA will no longer command, only in their national team tournaments. They are going to command the clubs. And yes, no one is going to expel the players from the Super League, the National Leagues, or the national team tournaments. You will tell me a European Championship without Mbappé, Haaland, Lewandowski or De Bruyne what it is (because Bayern and PSG will enter). Or the Spanish League without Madrid, Barça or Atleti ...

It needs work on the details, of course, but say we get a top 20 league across Europe, 3-5 teams relegate, other teams take their spot from the same league, or from a different league if the country has lost too many coefficient points. I'd absolutely hate if it was just like NBA or NFL, where the worst teams even get draft advantages, but if it's an extension to normal leagues, I'm not so sure.

Kicking out teams from just CL or EL this season won't matter all that much to the involved teams, and I'm sure they'll take SL participation and money over that. But participating in the domestic league is essential to them.

Our government must be spotting the most amazing opportunity they've ever had to win votes.

like if they came out with a concrete plan with numbers etc, that for example, makes the super league more beneficial for the lower leagues of each country than the CL.
