Barca meanwhile is pretty aweful. Shutdown Messi or Messi have a bad day and its a bust. They cant play out of the back and they cant match the intensity and hunger of their opponents in big games.

He's lying on the floor so how much can really be blocking De Gea's line of sight. edit: Oh Wolves beat Spurs too. They're more than in the Champions League hunt now by the way. Hmm 5 (online thanks to the virus) classes tomorrow watch the cup final or go to bed. Tough decisions life throws us. Isn't that exactly why the offsite should be called?

You are probably right. Sometimes following the rules doesn't seem like the right decision. But you can't just choose not to follow them.

... and then came the 2nd half. Wtf. Barça started attempting super vertical passes that ALWAYS backfired. I get it that Madrid's press was good, but it wasn't that much better than the 1st half. In a normal Barça game the opponent gets tired of running after the ball around the 60-minute mark but it seemed like it was Barça that got tired this time. They just can't compete 90 minutes against top opponents. No way this team wins the CL. I don't think Madrid can win the CL either, they lack the finishing and in CL it's a deal breaker. They're however looking a lot more promising for future seasons than Barça. They have good youngsters and I'm sure Vinicius can become a bit smarter in the last meters and he'll be a beast. Meanwhile Barça need bigger changes than just a coach. Semedo, Umtiti/Lenglet, Arthur, de Jong, Dembélé, Fati, Riqui Puig, ..., they have good young players but they all look like they've been infected by the old man syndrom that Busquets, Messi, or Piqué have been showing.

I guess going wide creates room for De Jong and Busquets to move closer to the box, but neither of them are really the finishers you're looking for when being 1-0 down. I'm not sure how common that wide movement was, but it definitely felt out of place when I noticed it.

I like that he works hard for the team, you can't take that away from him, but that's just not enough right now without a 3rd like Dembele or Suarez. The best games he played was as the 9 and I think it's the way to go; but long term Suarez will be back and he won't play there so what's the point.

Players of this level should be able to play together but the team has been struggling tactically with Valverde and Setien hasn't had time to fix it so it's really not helping. Personally, I think that's a very inaccurate statement. If anything, a player who excels at certain position, would find it much harder to fit into a role that not meant for him. It's the mediocre players that can pretty much be positioned anywhere in the pitch and can still deliver acceptably i.e. utility players. Sure there have been exceptions where a player was great in a role and transitioned into another pretty well, but in most cases, these happened as they aged and could no longer playe their initial role at the highest level.

In my experience, the burden of proof is always very high in these kind of situations and therefore I'd be very surprised if both panels (remember this went to the appeal panel) decided to go with such a harsh punishment with couple of vague text messages.

I wanted to put "should" between quotes because I tend to agree with you. I think that with a coach with clear ideas or if the team has a strong common goal, this works. Examples that come to mind being Henry which didn't play well under a dysfunctional Rijkaard team, then went to excel under Pep; and Suarez and Cavani for Uruguay where they make it work for the good of the team. Griezmann is a flexible player to begin with so, in theory, if the team had a clear idea of what to do on the pitch and he was given a specific role and enough time, it would work. But they haven't had any of that. Signing a pure winger would have probably worked better. Dembele should work more easily if he wasn't injured all the time x)

Chelsea finally took some shots and played the way they had at the start of the season. Nice victory and hopefully they springboard on from this....only issue is we have more injuries now with Kovacic and Willian now sidelined ![]()

At least there will be for the first time a Basque Derby final (One of the top 3 derbies in Spain alongside Sevilla derby and Madrid derby). It will be an insane and very intense final with all the Basque Country mobilised. Let's see what can do La Real Nordic kids.

Definitely still in the top 4 race, most likely semi in FA cup, and one of the contenders for EL. Season might still end up a reasonable success, tbh.
