I recently watched this analysis on Metcalf, and he agrees completely:
One should give credit to Schottenheimer on how he is used. They saw him fit a role, and made him do what he is good at.
Oh, and I watched the Clowney tackle on Wentz a bunch of times and this is my conclusion:
1: The Seattle D-line destroyed the Eagles O-Line. 2: Wentz is boxed with 4 defenders with nowhere to throw, but tucks the ball and decides to go for a run as he sees a few yards of green to his right. This is a really stupid decision. 3: Wentz trips in a defender before he really gets moving. 4: Clowney is in full speed and goes in for a tackle from behind, trying to strip the ball from underneath Wentz before he hits the ground. Clowney also wants to make sure the play is stopped right there. 5: Unfortunately, Wentz is falling in such a way the 2 helmets bump right before Wentz is all the way down to the ground. 6: Predicting exactly how someone will trip is almost impossible. Clowney also failed to strip despite his best efforts.
It was tough play, and I can not rule out that Clowney wanted to scare Wentz for ever trying a run like that again (rightfully) but the play was not flagged for a reason, and imo he did not jump head first onto a downed player like some seem to claim.
i assume they got him because no other decent hc candidate wants to go the giants with gettlemen on the hot seat. That is begging to be a lame duck coach in 2 years when Gettlemen gets fired. That team is bad and not getting better any time soon
If Bienemy takes an interview with the browns, his wife should institutionalize him, unless he gets like a Gruden contract. What's the point of leaving the best OC job in the NFL to go to a dumpster fire and get the boot in 2 years?
Plus, its not like Andy is healthy and young. He's 61 and that's an old 61. If they won the title I could even see Andy walking away for a while. He's been grinding as long as anyone.

I rarely find myself wishing the NFL sped things up, either it is a great game and I'm happy to watch or if its teams I'm not that into I just pvr it and FF through commercials and use the 30 sec skip to get to the action. With todays tech you can easily watch a NFL game in under 2 hours.
I do like the idea of them testing some things. I was pretty disappointed in the one foot down rule. I love watching NFL receivers make crazy catches and still have the body control to tap both feet.
I don't expect the XFL to last though, it seems like they are trying to compete with the NFL instead of co-exist with it and I can't imagine it competing.
The NFL has to many rules, refs throwing flags every other play reallly slows things down imo

I mean yeah but what rules are you seriously going to drop? I think the spotting only ref and an up tempo adjustment system will make a difference
I'm actually looking forward to the double forward pass and shootout ot rules in effect

Plenty of rules. Offensive & Defensive holding within 5 yards of the LOS should be allowed, pass interference should be redefined to exclude 50%+ of current calls, roughing should be limited to only concussion shots and aggression after the play is over (or other extra curricular activities). That's like 90% of penalties called when action is happening.

Not contact. Holding like what is called on linemen.
But you certainly could also remove the illegal contact rule, which would decrease penalties and reduce concussion risk.
I'm not sure it would be good if the DB's are allowed to grab onto receivers for the first 5 yards, or am I misunderstanding you again?
No you're not wrong about what I'm saying, but I think it would be a better game (for me) if they could. If you don't think that would be good, then you have to amend it somehow. My key goal with the rule would be to eliminate holding penalties on blockers and defensive personnel near the LOS inside. But the hashes are too narrow to use as a cutoff point for the rule.
James Harrison had a interesting take on how to stop Lamar, whenever u see Jackson do the read option, hit him NO MATTER WHAT because he loses QB protection and eventually Lamar will knock it off. Buying time for your players to reach Jackson by beating him up and wearing him out is a good strat, but its kinda like trying to KO Floyd Mayweather jr, at least you have a punchers chance.
