What a boring race...

That's not exactly inadequate, as that's the rules they are operating under. They can't red flag so the race can have a sprint finish.

I do think that red flagging would have been better, of course, and I hope they'll adjust the rules so that it is possible in the future. But don't lay the blame on race control for doing their job properly

Not a Ferrari fan; but that that happened at the end there is unacceptable;

Is this a racing sport or not? Safety car should have come in before last lap; period.

This race was a joke

FIA and the teams will have to agree to change the rules. I've my doubts about it...

What do you want exactly? If RC rushes the SC and relaxes the rules so you can get a one-lap shootout, it's a controversy that lasts for months at end, ending with RC being fired. Have everyone already forgotten Abu Dhabi last year or am I going insane?

The Safety car couldn't have gone in a lap earlier, because it still had to release all the lapped cars, which takes one lap to do. These are the procedures which were tightened after last year's shenanigans.

I understand you as a fan would rather the race ended under green flag, I'm absolutely with you. But try to keep some perspective. The only way for the race to end under racing conditions would have been with a red flag, and that is currently not allowed except for safety reasons, which wasn't the case today.

You're not going insane Excludos, you're absolutely right. Horner just made the Sky crew realize that what happened in Abu Dhabu last year was done to prevent exactly this unsatisfying end to a race. It was quite funny to see I have to say.

You're not going crazy. This whole thing is ridiculous. F1 races have finished under yellow flags for years and it was never a controversy until recently because of Masi's horribly inconsistent race directing that was frequently at odds with the rules as they were written. The fact that the race people are pointing at to say "see, they've red flagged races close to the end before! they should have done it here!" was Azerbaijan 2021, which was arguably one of the worst instances of Masi being god awful at race direction really drives home the point that race directors need to first and foremost follow the rules. That race was a complete disaster and I remember the commentators at times talking about how it felt as if that race was out of control.

I would also like to see races ended under green flags if possible and if rules need changing to make that happen, then I'd be fine with that. But until those rules change, they should follow the rules as written and not just wing it then go back retroactively to justify questionable decisions with weird interpretations of the rules like Masi did.

edit: Oh jeez I just realized Latifi is now 21st in the standings. Oof. De Vries was fantastic filling in for Albon. This has to be game over for Latifi. A guy who had zero practice in the Williams dumpstered him.

The Alonso curse continues. The team he signed with is now having an awful turn of form and reliability problems.

I feel bad for Ricciardo. He was finally having a decent race when his engine went. He just has nothing going for him lately.

I believe they explicitly have said that they don't need his sponsorship money anymore since Dorilton Capital took over the team. Williams has Dorilton's money plus an increasing number of other sponsors as well. A bunch of money has been dumped into Williams in the last year or so which is why we're finally seeing them improve a bit rather than barely scraping by.

They kept Latifi for this year because they believed he was improving. To be fair, he was genuinely getting better in the second half of last year but it seems like that improvement has completely stopped and he can't get a grip on the new generation of cars at all. Albon's been beating him this season roughly as badly as Russell did, and now that Williams has the performance to actually race in the pack rather than far behind, it's really sticking how much Latifi is struggling.

It's too bad because Latifi seems like a genuinely friendly and pleasant person but he's just not suited for F1.

I know Logan Sargeant is Williams' longer term prospect right now since he's in their driver academy and is doing well, but I wouldn't be surprised if Williams signed De Vries for next year at the very least. De Vries was apparently already on their radar and his race result today showed he could do the job.

Holy shit he's fine now but Albon had serious complications to his surgery and had to be ventilated overnight on Saturday. Williams put out a statement saying he went into respiratory failure because of a rare complication with anaesthetics and had to be intubated. He recovered overnight and is now heading home to the UK.

I hope he recovers well. That's horrible, especially since the surgery he had is usually quite routine and low risk.

From what I've heard, he's on his way home now for recovery. That being said, I wouldn't be surprised to see him skip Singapore. It's the most physically demanding circuit on the calendar(hot, humid, long), and he is skipping at least one week of training, and he's going to still be hurting when he starts training again.

I think the same. It's not worth the risk for him to get hurt just to do one race. Better to allow him to recover fully, especially in light of the recent news.

De Vries is gonna have to spend the next 3 weeks solely working out his shoulders and neck. Either that or Williams will have to get a tiny crane to hoist him out of the car at the end of the Singapore race since his entire upper body will have disintegrated into jello.

As you can see from the spray, it's very much not dry

Sector 1 and 3 are wetter tho. Sector 2 is nearly completely dry

Urk. I think Hamilton is a GOAT like anyone else with half a brain, but my god does he whine a lot, every single race. Does he really think he would be anywhere remotely competitive with full Wets against literally the entire rest of the field on Inters, who seemingly make them work with no issues? Half the track is bone dry

Unlikely to be competitive but he had to take a gamble.

I cant blame him for trying to roll the dice
