Simeone is successful asking that much efforts from his players because he is in Atletico. He raised this team from top 5-7 in Spain to top 5 in Europe. I'm amazed he's still getting anything from his players, I thought they'd be burnt out a long time ago. But it's "easier" in an underdog environment. Mou needs this.

I'm actually not entirely convinced on the underdog thing if I'm honest. Mou did well at Porto and Inter in a time where neither were really underdogs, certainly not Inter. I'll also never see Madrid as an underdog. People just can't tolerate his antics and his system when he's not winning, it's as simple as that. A more pleasant Mourinho wouldn't have been fired during his first Chelsea stint (Ambramovich was looking for any excuse to fire him then), which honestly could've kept going on just like Simeone's Atletico.

I think I kinda get what hes saying but I dont think he explained it that well so Im not sure if he quite means what I do. But yes there is for sure an "us against the world, no one expects us to pull this off so we will" attitude that has been a hallmark of the times he has succeeded in Europe atleast. I am more in line with your thinking though. Its more about antics and system which after a certain point just steals your soul. To the point about Atleti, the squad has been accepting of the way they play for a long time and Simeone also brings in players that align with that philosophy when he has had to adjust/add to his squad, so for him it works. Simeone isnt going to put a Paul Pogba in his team even if you sold him to him for half price because he knows it wouldnt work. Or well maybe at half price but you know, its a hard sell.
