Edit: Speaking of Delph, who are the left back options for City right now? Mendy had that late nightclubbing thingy Guardiola probably doesn't appreciate at all. After that there's Zinchenko (sidelined with small injury) or Delph I guess. That doesn't sound ideal at all for Guardiola football. Mendy still by far the best left back and when he gets a run of games the City left hand side is nuts. He played in the FA cup semi final vs Brighton for 90 minutes and that is his first game back due to knee injury issues which keep sidelining him for 3-6 months at a time. He will play the weekend game rotation with Delph i assume. I know the nightclub situation probably pissed Pep off but that wasn't the reason he wasn't playing last night, its because Mendy is not ready for a lot of games right now.

Mendy can be good, but injuries and behavior are an issue. I think Zinchenko was doing it well until now, but sadly got injured. On the other side, Walker isn't world class and did nothing yesterday.
I'm a Pep fan boy but this loss is on him. He seemed to be fine with a 0-0, didn't take any risk yet easily conceded counter attacks in the first half. Second half when Tottenham weakened, it was a clear Sané sub but he didn't enter until the 88th. Gundogan and Silva trash, de Bruyne 88th, wtf.

Late subs were really wtf from pep

I think he really wants to look after his squad and rotate a lot with the chance at going for this immortal quadruple which will be the craziest thing in world football!!!!!!!!!!!!!! But i don't think its going to happen and he has a chance of losing the league if he makes these kinda changes in the wrong games. We shall see though.
|
I think he saw his team starting to walk over Tottenham so he didn't want to disrupt that. But then changes should have come right after the goal. Even before, I think Sané would have wrecked Tottenham's defense with the space they were leaving, and Mahrez wasn't playing well anyway.
Oh well, hopefully tonight Valverde doesn't play it too cowardly himself. It should be an 'easy' qualification as long as the team plays seriously. A short victory or a draw with goals tonight should suffice.
The other game should be fun too, good clash of styles. Sadly for Ajax, I think Juve is a little better at being pragmatic than Real, and Bonucci is no Ramos.

I think Ronaldo touched the ball 4 times before the goal, and 3 of those were on their own half. But he's just so so dangerous.
