A 75+ percent conversation rate out of a 100 odd penalties isnt particularly impressive. But its not bad.

It might be surprisingly hard to keep a high succesful conversion rate at such high quantities. I'd assume it's a standard practise to go through some Messi & Ronaldo penalty routines whenever you're facing Real or Barca in La Liga and anyone doing that has a nice sample size available.

I mean it's like one of the few things that he does on a regular basis (nobody expect Messi to track back :D) in which he's definitely average. Which is surprising considering his finishing and free kicks skills, you'd expect him to be top tiers at pens. (I checked and someone like Lampard & Gerrard who were very good at pens ended up with 85% record with over 50pens taken, quite a bit better than Messi). On the other hand I wonder if there is a better free kick taker in the last 5 years.

So it would make sense for great captains like Gerrard or ronaldo to be good at them

Not sure what you mean, I didnt mean to stir anything, and I dont see the need for such a butthurt reaction either. He related being able to handle pressure as requisite to being good at penalites. And there is no disagreement from my side that is true and that Ronaldo has generally been excellent in the majority of pressure situations hes taken penalties. I also agree that dealing with pressure may be a trait that can be found in great captains. (you said good, thats not what he said, there is a big difference between Great and Good btw, but lets leave that aside for now.) I think Ronaldo is an average to maybe good captain, but hes not a great captain. And while being able to handle pressure may be the quality of a great or good Captain. The most important quality of a "Great Captain" is leadership. This is the premise of my argument, so if you dont agree here then you we would be at an impasse + Show Spoiler + (you would also be wrong, but I dont care enough to argue the point) And because I believe Ronaldo is lacking in the leadership department, I simply pointed that out while tieing it back to the fact that the original point used penalties as a subject to offhandedly just assume that its generally accepted that Ronaldo is a great Captain when there is no evidence to suggest that is acceptable as fact or even a popular opinion. The LOL was because I was amused that he put Ronaldo and Stevie G in the same bucket of "great Captains" as a casual fact, when Stevie G despite being significantly less successful, as a leader was in a different league to anything Ronaldo is as a Captain. Great Captains are people like Puyol, Vieira, Stevie G, JT, Keane, Maldini. Ronaldo doesnt fit that list at all.

you just wrote an essay about why you made your response but it doesnt cover the fact that your response was an attack at a detail that was largely irrelevant to the original point. whether or not you agree with sharkies opinion that ronaldo is a great captain is irrelevant to the fact that great penalty takers withstand pressure well and gerrard/ronaldo are examples of these people. also i find it hilarious that youd be willing to go off on a tangent and argue against someones post, write a detailed explanation of your opinions, and then say that if someone has a differing opinion theyd be wrong and you wouldnt be willing to have a further discussion about it. it just makes it blatantly obvious that your actual intent was to attack sharkies post, rather than bring up a point in good faith and have a discussion.

I am free to raise a point if I disagree with something. I disagreed with a comment I pointed out my disagreement. Whether it was the point of his post is also irrelevant. If it wasnt meant to be relevant then he shouldnt have said it. The rest of his comment I didnt disagree with and I didnt feel the need to address. If you want a circle jerk around the rather obvious platitude that great penalty takers withstand pressure, well good for you. That Sharkie happens to be someone I disagree with more often than others is simply because we view the game differently and have different opinions around certain players. Hes an adult and im pretty sure is pretty good at making his own case, + Show Spoiler + heck even his shitty one liner counts gone down. I am glad you find the tangent hilarious. It was meant to be funny. I am at a bit of loss here because I am not sure why I should take this seriously. Also please dont misrepresent me even though half of that was in jest. People having differing opinions is fine. People rejecting facts is not. Great Captaincy requiring great leadership is a fact. Dont flat earth me on this buddy. Whether I was looking to bring up a conversation in good faith or not is rather premature for you to decide because of a semi serious explanation of what great captaincy is. Honestly reading it back, it looks more like your just upset I dissed Ronaldo and are using defending Sharkie as an excuse to have a go at me. Which I still dont see why you needed to do btw. Its not like im sitting here having a go at Sharkie everytime he posts. Assuming I did make the post in bad faith. Well then well done, I just got a rise out of Ronnie fanboy, you gave me exactly what I wanted. Imma peace out
