He did miss 2 important penalties vs Chelsea and Chile but so did Ronaldo vs Bayern, for example. When you take all the pks, you're bound to miss some. And if you're a top player, GKs are going to study your shooting pattern too. Defenders too, see what they are doing when they have to face a Messi free kick. Now they're having a guy slide below the wall and one run back to the first post, it's ridiculous haha | ||

His finishing and efficiency even in live play is off the charts compared to Ronaldo or really anyone else. Given that, the suggestion that he is "bad" at penalties never made intuitive sense to me, but that link if accurate is very useful to throw at people. Thanks for sharing | ||

edit: In fact, I don't understand what the 'global conversion rate' is supposed to mean? I assumed the one on top was supposed to be 'every game', but then I see this is only 113 penalties for both players, while the real madrid vs barcelona statistic alone is 188 penalties for ronaldo (scored 160) and 184 penalties for messi (scored 140). Is it something weird like 'global' being supposed to be 'games not played in leagues', so you get ronaldo's portugal performance making him look relatively worse? I'm too busy to go through it all and tally up the numbers, but from looking at the statistics overall, ronaldo does in fact come out with a better % than messi, even if the top number indicates they are the same. So I'd be careful throwing that link around, it seems deliberately misleading to me. | ||
