He will probably be one of our most important players at that point with or without Löw. Probably even at the next EC. Not taking him was a ballsy but correct decision, though, which I didn't expect Löw to be able to make

We'll see what that means regarding the players that have left the club.

Despite the good news for the club, whoever comes next has a tall mountain to climb given the state the club is in. The effect of such a character is also visible in the division among the fans - many Bruno de Carvalho supporters are now claiming they'll never support the club again. We'll see what that means regarding the players that have left the club. Why does he still have such fanatical support? I do understand people wanting to stick to the present leadership, but disowning the club because of a leadership change seems like they're fans of the guy rather than the club. Is he some kind of a cult figure there?

Is he some kind of a cult figure there? Yes, it's pretty much a cult. The guy basically followed the dictator's handbook - blaming the media (at one point he ordered sporting fans to not buy newspapers or watch sports shows on TV other than the club's official media), alleging a conspiracy from the elites (a share of their fans are indeed upper class), clinging onto power, changing the club bylaws to consolidate power, etc, etc. The similarities to Trump are numerous, starting with the narcissism. His discourse fit a narrative that hit the right spot for many fans. Thankfully, this was only a sports phenomenon and not a political one. EDIT: After conceding defeat and saying he would never support the club again, Bruno de Carvalho just turned around, saying he would challenge yesterday's assembly in court and saying he will run for the next elections.

I found this piece to be particularly amusing.. https://www.fourfourtwo.com/features/a-witchdoctor-believes-sporting-president-bruno-de-carvalho-a-victim-black-magic

Well, the titularisation of Neuer seems a bit weird and a sign of conservatism which was their downfall, Germany played like senators, without any envy or passion. Gratz to South Korea !

The loss of Schweinsteiger, Klose and Lahm is huge. You need leaders like them on the field to avoid such disaster games And this is not in hindsight, I said this before the WC already
