Yeah. You can complain about football economics all you like, but when Czech Republic, Belgium and Switzwrland consistently outperform Dutch teams, it clearly isnt the money. Or if it is, then it is financial mismanagement of the Dutch league, because I really really doubt that Club Brugge or FC Basel are worth more as a brand than Ajax or Feyenoord. | ||

Well In the late nineties and early 00's all clubs were massively punching above their weight. The salaries we were paying then were just ludicrous in comparison to what was being earned. The effects of this nearly bankrupted Feyenoord, while the rest of the league also suffered a lot and continue to do so. In order to counter what happened the knvb has obligated all clubs to turn in a profit every year and have no debt or else suffer point penalties. While the top 3 is pretty much free from any money problems currently and were honestly just very unlucky with their draws (Zenit is just lol, while Roma were motivated by all the crap that happened in Rome). The rest of the league however is just incapable of raking in any points in Europe and this will take some time to improve. | ||
