I wonder what would he do if he had Welbeck and Giroud instead RVP, Rooney and Falcao... Well, he'd have a striker who scores 20 goals a season, seeing as Giroud scored 22 last season, and is on pace to do it again, with 12 in 21 so far this season...guy's got 9 goals in his last 13 games. And Özil has 3 goals and 4 assists in 9 games since returning from injury. I think the hate in this thread is unwarranted. Just gonna quote myself here with the penalty ranking in this Liga season. Gotta be a real believer in great (called) coincidences:
Ranking de penaltis a favor en la Liga 2014/15 (gameweek 25) 1.- Real Madrid 10 2.- Sevilla 7 3.- Atlético 6 4.- Málaga 6 5.- Deportivo 5 6.- Celta 4 7.- Valencia 4 8.- Almería 4 9.- Elche 4 10.- Levante 4 11.- FC Barcelona 3 (...)

Fanboy at it again. Real obv get more penalties since a lot of their attacks happen at speed and defenders simply have no other option but to hinder the attacker to try to stop them. Against Barça, they simply get outplayed even while staying back and have no chance to even make the challenge. And Messi not falling over helps too ofc.

You can't do this kind of analysis without taking into consideration the way that both teams play...
Real Madrid has a style where the 3 guys in front are constantly changing positions and they play at maximum speed.
Barcelona plays a possession style with certain passes, and they are way more cynic in they way they attack. Although the team has really fast players they don't rely their game on them. You rarely see Barcelona doing a counter attack.
Just for reference I like Barcelona much more than Real Madrid. This is just an unbiased (as much as possible) opinion about this.
People tend to use statistics without any kind of context to justify their biased opinions...

Holy crap the lame excuses. If you really think the "counterattack style" is a better explanation than bs dives and ref bias (2 of the 10 penalties were outside the box) I'm at a loss of words. Just check the tapes lol.
It's also fun how hard it is to find official data about the Liga penalties in the internet, unlike Premier League stuff.
Unofficial data says between 1994-2014 RM is on +82 penalties while Barça is on +37.
I don't think they always played this counterattack stuff against smaller teams 10 years ago, logic says the smaller teams should defend and the monster team should have the ball... But if they always did (they didn't) holy shit it is good at getting you penalties.
As someone said, it does even out in the end: Madrid consistently gets about 2-3 times better penalties ratio than Barça. And 0,40 penalties per game this season.

I too disagree that simply throwing out the number of penalties is enough evidence to suggest that their some sort of favourtism to Real.
That having been said the context you are describing tells me that you dont really watch very many Real league games.
Yes they are probably the most powerful counter attacking team on the planet but aside from the odd corner where weaker teams over-commit its not like they are spending a significant enough amount of time countering out of position defenders to justify the numbers. Only people who watch highlight reels would truly believe that.
They also dont interchange constantly and play at a higher gear for 90 minutes. The amount of "interchanging" if you can call it that is about as normal as any other top team because football, is by nature a fluid game. Maybe for a specific scenario but it is certainly not a part of their "style".
So when you present possiblly relevant but ill conceived logic then you really help more than hinder conspiracy theories.
Clearly you havent seen very many games or you are watching different games to atleast me if you really believe the argument yo presented.
Also most of the reason you get more data on EPL is because OPTA is allowed to release a fair bit of that data. Not so much for other leagues.

playstyle can have a big influence on penalties like boBaz said. I wanted to post exactly like boBaz. Counter attacks like Real Madrid is doing can produce a high amount of penalties. I am sure they are #1 in CL too.
Schalke played a heavy "counter attack" style in 2011/2012 in Bundesliga. Huntelaar scored 29 goals, 11 from penalties.

You don't bring anything to the table Rebs, except for thinly veiled insults.
b0baZ argument seems reasonable and I'll give three stats to tell you why:
Real Madrid has double the shots on the counter attack when compared to Barcelona this season. They have 3 men pushing the offside line as compared to two in Barcelona. Barcelona has 70.5 % possession to Real Madrid's 57.4 %.
A more sensible discussion would be regarding the reason Barcelona have had 3 penalties this year.

Liverpool actually looked really good against Manchester City. I feel the way City played really helped them. Liverpool have looked really poor more often than not this season and have struggled to break down teams set up defensively. But the way City expected to win and came on to them very aggressively and open really played to Liverpools strengths. If Liverpool could managed to play with that much energy and excitement against every team they would be so much more fun to watch and be closer to the top 4 and title race. But I strongly suspect that was a one off brought about by the way City allowed them to play.
Nothing really to add about League cup final. Better team won. Spurs did not look as on it as they had when they beat Chelsea earlyier in the season.
It was surprising to see Derby turned over by Fulham who have been largelly poor this season. Perhaps some of the damage caused by Felix Magath is starting to heal over. Middlesbrough also losing to Sheffield Wednesday and Bournemouth drawing opens up The Championship to the chasing teams. This includes both sides involed in the passionate East Anglia derby (by far the most important game in this rgion of the wrold this weekend). Nowich not only took the bragging rights but move above Ipswich for the first time this season and up into third. Watford have worked their way into the promotion race too.
Football returns to USA, Japan and Korea this weekend. There's a few new clubs coming into existance for the first time. It will interesting to see how new clubs with no tradition or history go about trying to attract a following and filling their stands. There;s a new club in the Korean second League playing in Jamsil Olymic Stadium as well as the two new clubs in the MSL. Central Seoul has long needed a second club regardless of the slightly questionable backers.

What are you guys talking about? Aubameyang is clearly the best counter-attacking team in the world.

I morally object to SKY on principle as their business model is to largelly take things that are free and charge people money to watch them. Football, Cricket anything they can get they're grubby hands on. I also dispprove of the Americanisation of their sports coverage and continuous forcing American Sports and TV shows down our throats. However I suspect that last point is more because Murdoch owns all the rights to this stuff and it's very good buisness to force feed the British this kind of thing and try and get people to like it since it costs them almost nothing to ship it over here. The argument pro SKY sports people tend to use is that it's feeding money into the Premier League and making it better quality as a result but this is at best questionable to me.
Having made that rant the reality is I want to watch Football and Cricket and am forced to watch SKY and their coverage is really not bad at all despite devoting large sections of broadcast time to try and force me to watch the lattest unmissable unwatchable US drama.
With regards to MLS I have watched a few games when the Premier League is out of season as some kind of Football withdraw symptom and been reasonably impressed. If you feel the need to pick a team pick an East Coast team beacuse of the time difference.
edit MSL, MLS whatever floats your boat

Yeah i might punt on Orlando city due to i have been to Orlando multiple times during my teens. However i will jump to the Vegas franchise if they ever get one :3
Yeah i see your point about Sky which is no doubt 100% correct however, i feel that id rather just pay 1 company a fee than having to purchase BT Sports on top of Sky Sports package. But then i accept that Sky are then free to charge whatever they want as they own it all. However you pay like £40 a month for BT broadband to get BT Sports for free then between having multi room and lots of channels its like £80 a month for sky. So between them both and telephone/broadband its £120 a month to have access to everything sport :') However next year i dont think you get BT Sport for free with the broadband as they need to milk you as they spent shit loads of money on Champions league so it be interesting.
