On March 03 2015 21:46 Arevall wrote: You don't bring anything to the table Rebs, except for thinly veiled insults. b0baZ argument seems reasonable and I'll give three stats to tell you why: Real Madrid has double the shots on the counter attack when compared to Barcelona this season. They have 3 men pushing the offside line as compared to two in Barcelona. Barcelona has 70.5 % possession to Real Madrid's 57.4 %. A more sensible discussion would be regarding the reason Barcelona have had 3 penalties this year. And those stats all look great but the problem is I wasnt comparing them to Barcelona. It was just to any top team. Please also advise an instance in the post where I even mentioned Barcelona ? What does Barcelona have to do with Real getting Penalties ? Lets address them anyway. Yes Real has more shots on the counter. You can also pull up half the rest of the league and Barcelona would rank pretty low on that. What the number of shots on the counter has to do with penalties is debatable. Any team that has Ronaldo on their team also has dubiousness in terms of quality of shot. We know he shoots alot but I digress. If anything that tells me that they counter alot and the counter results in getting a shot on goal. This suggest Real is great at counter attacking and very good at getting shots on goal as a result. This has nothing to do with penalties. The possession stats are pretty normal for a top tier team, as I made very clear. Barcelona's stats are the outlier because they play significantly different to every one else. Which is both great and also their Achilles heel.So actually comparing Barcelona to other teams makes even less t than it does Real. Saying Real has less possession and more counter attacks than Barcelona to suggest why they have more penalties than everyone else not including Barcelona is a lousy explanation still. I bring plenty to the table, fortunately not stats that arent completely relevant to a discussion. Now if those 3 stats are up for comparison to other top teams in the league itself and abroad then we can start having a meaningful discussion. Next time you try to discredit an argument by calling me insulting try to provide something useful and maybe with a little less bravado. Best part is I dont even buy the argument that Real is being helped by Refs. In my opinion it averages out for everyone. I said I didnt think he watched very many games because I dont believe he has. And if anyone did see all their games and not highlight reels they would agree. I have no misgivings toward Real either. I quite enjoy watching them play which is why I watch their games in the first place. The only problem I have is that the reasons being offered are very generalized and hence weak. "Oh Real has top quality players and counters alot". isnt something that flies with me. Especially since alot of those penalties arent even on the counter. You know what meaningful reasoning to discount the theory would be ? Something like the fact that 6 out of the 10 penalties did nothing but pad results that were pretty much over. Now that is strong evidence to me. If penalties start getting offered on a consistent basis to save games or open the scoring. That would be problematic. Thinly veiled enough for you ? edit: Or as SKC says it could merely be coincidence. Thats actually fine too. Its not some over cooked BS about Real being more #counterattacking. The fact that they had just 6 last year actually suggests even more that the counter attacking theory is misguided.

http://www.myfootballfacts.com/Premier_League_Penalty_Statistics.html 12/13 Chealsea 11 2nd 7 13/14 Liverpool 12 2nd 7 14/15 Arsenal and MCity 7 2nd 4 So using Real's penalty numbers without comparing it to what ussually happens in similar competitions is kinda bullshit. Unless you are saying that all those teams are always helped by the refs. The stat in a vaccum is meaningless, penalties isn't something that should average out, this kind of distribution is common. It has only been brought up because of confirmation bias. http://www.whoscored.com/Regions/206/Tournaments/4/Seasons/3922/Stages/7920/TeamStatistics/Spain-La-Liga-2013-2014 In 13/14 La Liga: 1st Barcelona: 10 goals from penalties. 2nd RM: 6 3rd Athetlico Madrid: 6 If Real numbers cannot be a coincidence, can those be?

Meanwhile Dresden is living up to the reputation of its fans. Reus out because of an unnoticed off ball kick and Immobile getting an elbow to the head in the penalty area, also uncalled. Poor BVB, every time they have to deal with these idiots.

Such hard evidence in any other sport would be blatant but this is footie and nobody wants to discover it's corrupt as fuck (most people here have no clue about spanish politics I guess) because it will be a Santa-dissapointment level. And it's the same for the media. A few months ago some spanish ex-player said he and his team played in a sold game like 10 years ago and nobody believed him, even when he was accusing himself lol. Look at cycling, nobody gives a shit about it because we assume they all use drugs since Armstrong. After all the refs are human and as such they are biased... and so many people in spain hate catalonia. Some PP dudes (the party in the power) often compare catalan nationalists with nazis and Barça is pro-catalonia, openly said so. But ey I don't wanna ruin everyone's day. It all started because I said there is ref bias in spain and people choose to make up excuses to believe otherwise.

I checked and that's right, for last year it's not true. So I'll stand corrected. Anyway thanks for the webpage it's hard as hell to find official data. In 2013 the tv channel 8tv showed a graphic with the numbers since the start of La Liga, which is not as blatant but considering it's the whole thing it's more solid I guess: Pens called: RM 453, Barça 417 (+36). Pens against: RM 247, Barça 316 (-69). I guess the "counterattack style" argument will go now into "well RM clearly had better defenders herderp" so I'll save me some time and facepalming and leave it already. Cheers and see you guys in CL.

Villla have not been given a single penalty this season. Is this a huge conspiracy against them by Premier League refree's? No it's because they never go forward and bloody attack.

Rumor has it he is wanted by Man City to replace Pellegrini THIS SUMMER. Now if Bayern were to win the champions league this season then you pretty much have Pep winning everything he wants to in Germany so he could leave. Depends though, he might be really happy and finding life much better there.
