As always the problem will be that they won't punish the foul... Players should be allowed a little slack when someone tries to break their leg. Agreed even more credit to Matic that he did just push and didn't punch him, but they can't drop the zero tolerance of violent conduct. There's enough idiots that would try to abuse that, it isn't worth risking.

Isn't the rule if the referee doesn't punish it in the match they can come back and review it and hand out retrospective punishment. It was an awful tackle and should be punished but ovbiously the refree was right to send Matic of for reacting like that even if it's understandable why he was so angry.
Hopefully both players will get a 3 match ban.
edit: Is it a 3 match ban for a red card right?

It wasn't just one bad challenge though. Barnes has been making them all game and getting away with them, which only builds up to further frustration. I didn't expect Matic to snap but I was betting that if the ref didn't send off Barnes someone would snap. Only human.

It's no accident that before the big game barca played like crap. They obviously had their minds on the man.c game, it's lucho's fault for not motivating them.

CP - Arsenal game what a joke, 1 goal from wrong penalty call 1 goal from offside, two palace balls off the post, hand ball in pen area not given, they had the possession from min 1 and still lose 1-2 unbelievable...

As always the problem will be that they won't punish the foul... Was it even a foul though? The guy passed the ball and then Matic kind of ran into his foot. It's not like he went over the ball or anything, he played the pass and his follow-through was what looked so ugly. He is going after the ball, so is Matic, he has to anticipate that and cannot tackle in a way that risks serious injury. From the laws of the game:
A player is guilty of serious foul play if he uses excessive force or brutality against an opponent when challenging for the ball when it is in play. A tackle that endangers the safety of an opponent must be sanctioned as serious foul play.

Hopefully both players will get a 3 match ban. I think the rule is if the ref hasnt seen it, they can review it. If he has seen, but not punished it, they cant punish it afterwards. But I'm not (edit) 100% sure about this.

So they should be able to give him a 3 match ban for that awful tackle then, we think.

Rules have changed. The FA can go back and review whatever the fuck they want. It just so happens that they only review the high-profile moments because they're wankers.
Don't see what Barnes does wrong in the context of only having seen the gif. He's trying to pass the ball, it looks like. he even tries to get pressure off Matic when he notices he's hit him.

Will be interesting to hear the Mourinho rant after the game, don't remember if he is still boycotting.

Being terrible is not an excuse for hurting people. He is trying to pass the ball, but is awfuly slow and he completely missed the fact that Matic is next to him... And Matic managed to steal it. Then Barnes didn't pull back his leg, again, because he is awfuly slow. Red and at least 3 games... Same for Matic.
btw. I heard that the celebrations in Barcelona for the upcoming treble are postponed.

A similar challenge broke Ramsay's leg so I have no sympathy for those kind of accidents. I still find it bizarre how much weight there is behind that challenge when all he needs to do is pass the ball.
|
It's fine if you're upset, but comparing the clash between Barnes and Matic to Shawcross breaking Ramsey's leg is silly. Shawcross came flying in recklessly. Barnes is clumsy as shit, but he comes in with little power, and looks like he (unsuccessfully) tried to dampen the impact.
As far as suspensions go, I guess he could be off for three games if it's found to be intentional. I'm on the fence about it.

I missed the goal but Man City appear to be 1:0 up

Could be a drubbing coming up. Already 2-0 to City.

I was talking about how both Sunderland and West Brom would both be fine because they are both scoring goals now. Please everyone ignore the fact that the game between them was the only 0-0 draw this afternoon.
edit: 3-0

Mother-fucking Andre Wisdom not playing when I've had him in the team for two straight West Brom clean sheets.
3-0 City, lol.
Coloccini with a nightmare tackle. Should have been red, even if he did miss. Studs at knee level and follows through with a right-legged kick. Not even a yellow. Wow.
