I was in the middle of an edit, hit post instead of preview sorry.
Sweden the only country to come close so far, which is the worry surrounding womens hockey in olympics if Canada keeps being so dominant.

Indeed, mass start cross-country is one of my favourites. Hopefully Northug will deliver.
Oh I prefer individual start for cross country, but with Biathlon you get these awesome duels where it's determined when they're shooting and sometimes you just see people crumble under the pressure, rather than most of the race being irrelevant other than the end-game sprint. ;p

The US team has best Canada a few times.
That being said, I necessarily think that one sided competition is bad. Without the Olympics no other nation gets to compete with Canada anyways. If no nation gets to compete, the gap will never close. Look at sc1.
Also, the beginnings of men's hockey was way more lopsided. Basically twenty years of only Canada winning, one year of GB (aka Canada B) winning, then twenty years of the USSR winning everything.

The last coupe times the 2 female hockey teams have played eachother outside of the olympics its gone Americas way. They've also had some vicious fights so there has to be a bit of bad blood coming for the gold medal game.

actually in a recent 6 game exhibition series .. that was hardly an "exhibition" or "friendly" if u watched how nasty the games were... the US won 4-2.
it was a close series.. but a 6 game series is a much truer test than these 1 game elimination formats that happen in the Olympics and "4 Nations Cup" things.
Therefore, I'd have to say the US women's team is slightly better than the Canadian women's team and the IIHF rankings reflect this fact.
This stands regardless of the outcome of this olympics, as fun as it may be to watch, and as grand a scale that it may be
even if Canada wins the gold i'd have to say Team USA is better right now.
i'd say the USA is just as "dominant" as Canada.

I see manly men discuss hockey here... Let me speak a little bit about figure skating since it's on air right now. I hate the new score system. With the old one a fall down was like a death sentence. Now they just deduce 1 point from the >100 score. Makes f*cking sense...

I didn't think Italy was gonna score higher than USA there on the pairs
Canada just wrecked though.

Watching Freestyle skiing atm. , does anyone have a clue, how the rating system works? Do all three final scores add up, or does the highest one or the third one count?

YEP Russia deserves the gold in Figure Skating

I saw that they now have bonus points for wind in the ski jump. Never seen that before. First thought was to cut down on waiting time but I guess it's just to make it all a little more fair in a way.

Yeah, they made that rule 4-5 years ago, to equalize stuff and have bigger corridors, they can jump in. They also have gate compensation now, so if the wing gets to strong, they can change to another gate without restarting everything.

I think the main point is that they don't have to restart the competition if conditions change by a lot.

YEAH actually that is bad. Canada out shot them something like 69 to 11. if Women's hockey continues to be just a contest between 2 countries it'll get removed as an olympic sport. i'm cheering for closer games and i hope the rest of the world catches up with the USA and Canada. i was glad to see the Finland/USA game end up 3-1. i think Finland is ranked #3 in the world. I mean, I'm happy we won, and I'm happy it wasnt a worse blowout. Remember 8 years ago? No one even came close to scoring on Canada or the US, and they would blow everyone completely out of the water worse than this. I want the sport to stay and i want it to continue, but for the goalie to let only 5 in on 69 shots, thats a really good performance. It will take time for the rest of the team to catch up and years of training and rotation. But the other countries are getting closer, and hopefully this convinces more girls to pick up the game so they can play womens hockey when older. if hitting were legal, the less skilled teams might at least have a slightly better chance since they could just grind down the opposition. no hitting = beer league free for all for skilled forwards
is there a link to the full opening ceremony anywhere? i cant find on nbc's stupid site, bbc said it will be up soonish. havent looked elsewhere. but i have a vpn so i could watch other streams
it would kinda suck to see it removed, but a sport is no fun when it is one or two teams that absolutely curbstomp everyone else. it is prob as bad as it would be if american football was included in the games
