After having my mini-meltdown ~6-8 weeks ago or whatever hurting my back again, saying I'm not going to lift heavy for the next 6+ months... Well, I've worked my way back up again. Can't help it! This time I squat/deadlift in socks. Close to my previous maxes. Have no pain so far. Feel pretty good. I wonder if it'll last. But now today I'm sick as fuck. Missed my first workout in quite a long time. Too bad.

Given that you've been training for a considerable amount of time, your body's work capacity is likely at a point at which rhabdo is exceedingly unlikely save for survival circumstances. Yes, there are documented cases of seasoned athletes suffering from it, but more often that not, it crops up when a relatively untrained individual increases their workload far beyond their capacity too quickly, which is what crossfit ends up being for some people.

Yeah, it's kind of scary. I think farv probably knows about it better than I do, but the gist of the story seems to be pretty typical of CrossFit: coaches tell athletes to go way beyond the point where their form is broken down, they keep pushing, wake up the next day with brown piss and a near death experience. From what I heard, it sounded as if they were just doing bodyweight exercises for huge amounts of volume, and he probably just didn't have any work capacity built up to just jump into that.

If his kidneys had failed, he would have died. It's pretty scary, especially considering I've never known anyone who has gotten something that serious from working out. He's okay no, but I don't think he'll be doing CrossFit again any time soon.

Rhabdo is just the result of incredibly severe muscle damage. It causes a release of toxic byproducts and of muscle proteins themselves in to the blood stream. The toxins cause fever and other immune responses, further stressing the body, and the muscle proteins cause blood pressure problems, and do damage to the very delicate blood vessels in the kidney. Once those kidney vessels are damaged, you get the brown urine and the whole thing.

It's incredibly difficult for rhabdo to happen from working out in anyone who actually has a history of working out. Even for an untrained individual like this kid, to get to that level of muscle damage, he must have been continuing to do the workout well past the point where he had vomited, probably more than once, and was very nearly passed out. A little bit of common sense goes a long way in preventing these things.

You're more likely to get rhabdomyolysis from a traumatic injury like a car accident than you are from crossfit.

So first week completed with my altered routine. Trying to start the training for the tri, let me know what you guys think:
Mon: Lower body weightlifting
Tues: Shorter run and shorter bike
Wed: Longer bike
Thurs: Swimming (endurance)
Fri: Upper body weightlifting
Sat: Swimming (w/ technique work)
Sun: Rest
I may be able to squeeze an accessory/whatever I didn't get to lifting on a random day.
Felt ok, definitely need to start the endurance work lol.

Isn't it more fun to only do lifting and swimming, so you can get good at them? I'd replace tuesday with another swimming or lifting session

You aren't wrong in that lifting is more fun. Swimming is still rough because I've never trained it so I'm super novice. However I'd really like to do well so I'm prioritizing the endurance work until end of summer probably. I'm also planning a tough mudder double lap run in May.

i tried the flye machine 1 set and it just raped my shoulders and stopped coz i was too fucked agh im so tired i just had 5 mcdonalds double cheeseburgers which is apparently 2225 kcal but i doubt that coz that wud be insane

haha, I started those a couple months ago. Fortunately I was working out at home, so I had no-one to watch me as I continuously had to remove weight from my dumbbells as I looked on incredulously at what I couldn't lift.

If my experience is anything to go by you should be able to add weight reasonably quickly (in terms of percentage at any rate...)

Lol I do my rotator cuff circuit with ~1-2kg And i'm usually sweating by the end of it.
how reasonable is it to eat off wood instead of your tummy?

Double cheeseburger at mcdonalds is a bit over 400 calories so that sounds right.

Dips +35 lbs - 6, 6, 6, 13(failure)
then biceps and triceps till my arms were dead.

First time I've done a set of 10, let alone 3x10 pull ups in probably 4 years lol.
