The real tragedy of Westbrook going down last year is we didn't get a final judgement on the Harden trade. Granted, the way SA was playing I think they would have spanked them, but it would have been nice emotional closure. They really should have gone the Miami route where they have their 3 max contracts and get the veteran role players for nickels.

The pick is mitigated by their success, they are on control of their own destiny so to speak. And that's a big haul of Gortat and mediocre, but rotation-plausible players.

Next year was the one for Wash to go all in but I guess Ernie's contract is up this year so the heat is on to make the Playoffs.

Rockets are full of young guys who probably think they are going to the Finals. Memphis is full of veterans that don't give a shit.

Gortat's a good pickup for Wall at least but is one of those guys who got massively overrated playing with Steve Nash. He's solid in the PnR though so that should be all he needs to do. Not renowned for his defence. Next year was the one for Wash to go all in but I guess Ernie's contract is up this year so the heat is on to make the Playoffs. Yeah, this trade just reeks of a GM mortgaging (some of) the future to keep his job. It's also worth noting that Gortat is a UFA after this season.
