Suns sending Gortat, lee, Brown and Marshall to Wiz for Okakor and 2014 1st round pick, source tells Y!
Wow, that's not bad for the Wizards. The pick is mitigated by their success, they are on control of their own destiny so to speak. And that's a big haul of Gortat and mediocre, but rotation-plausible players.
espn is reporting that they will likely waive those players. the funny thing is that the wizards have 15 guaranteed contracts
Can you post the link? All three guys?! Even Marshall? That's totally meaningless.
The Wizards will waive Marshall, Brown and Lee to cut their roster down to the league-maximum 15 players in time for opening night, sources told ESPN.

like i said, the funny thing is they have 15 guaranteed contracts without the trade , and well... who knows
tyty.
If Marshall is released, I hope this reveals, what I believe to be, the over-fetishization of mediocre 1st round pick. Marshall was the 13th pick 2 seasons ago. These picks are so overvalued right now, it's crazy. And honestly, Washington is probably going to be in that range - the pick is top 12 protected right?
A fun exercise might be to go back in the last decade and look at the #13 pick overall. There's a lot of junk in there, guys who'll never start, guys who can barely crack a rotation and Thabo Sefolosha.
overvalued cause with the CBA you kinda need cheap overperforming rookie contracts to be good. Plus for every Marshall there's a Jimmy Butler, Ty Lawson, etc.
Pick top 12 protected eh? Actually quite like this for Wiz and Suns then. Wiz get a solid starter at the C and Suns possibly pick up a new asset and more lotto balls.
I am really excited to see the Pistons front court this year. Drummond, Monroe, and Smith just seems like it'd be the biggest front in the NBA. No idea how they'll play together and how spacing will work, but should be enough bodies there to get all of Jennings rebounds from jacking up 3's.

Yeah, but it still depends on that year's depth and that particular position. Other than (soon-to-be-Laker) Lillard, who was somewhat of a reach at that pick by (ex-clip) Olshey, all of the point guards drafted that year have stunk. Marshall was not going to get any playing time behind Bledsoe or Dragic either, but the draft class for PG's that year was particularly weak. Add to that, the fact that PG has the most depth of all positions in the league currently and yeah.

CP3 is so good right now he has a shot. Maybe D-Rose or Curry or Harden? Drummond is almost the same age as Davis I think and not nearly as refined so I would disagree there.
I know you said NBA, but Wiggins would definitely be a legit answer also ofc...
And it might be time to go back and say it (though technically still too soon) but that OKC trade really backfired on them. Yes, they were acting with the punitive-luxury-tax in mind but it has not looked good after Westbrook went down with injury and Harden looking so good. OKC can still swing things in their favor (they have the young players coming up and have the trade-exception) so we will see if they can do that but things aren't as bright as they once were.
And I might catch some heat for this but (when has that stopped me -lol-) but even with Harden being so damn good, the best SG in the league (like said a few pages ago), I still don't know if he will ever get to the level Kobe got to in his prime. From what it looks like so far (if things keep going at this pace), Kobe's prime > Harden's prime. Harden is still only 24/25 so he has time, but Kobe was/is just that much of a skilled-machine.
I doubt it. He'll probably match his stats if he starts playing as many minutes as Kobe, but Kobe was also an exceptional wing defender back then and Harden's got a long way to go on that front.
Also, BleacherReport has the stupidest basketball fans I've ever witnessed (and probably some of the worst general coverage.) Not only are they arguing over that "Kobe should be top 5!" ridiculousness in ESPN's ranking, but they're arguing Carmelo should be in there too.

That ratio is so off. For every Butler, there's a dozen Marshall's. For every Lawson, there's a dozen Julien Wrights.

Hey don't you remember me railing OKC hard for trading Harden?
I have Wade's peak > Kobe's. I don't think Harden touches either of them. With Dwight in Town he'll look comparable to Wade with broken Shaq and young Kobe with 3pt Shaq but he doesn't have the defensive chops to stand toe to toe. His offense will of course be freaking elite but the other 2 guys were all around monsters.
People seem to forget that Harden was a decent defender in OKC, it slipped last year trying to carry the offensive load, but he certainly has the tools to do it.
Harden has work to do to be better than prime Kobe or Wade, but he has the tools to do it, we will see if he has the focus and drive on the defensive end now that he has more help offensively.
Apparently someone made a post on Reddit where the complete rankings of Grantland's NBA preview were revealed in a graphic, with Miami being at No.2 and Chicago No.1. Wonder if that'll be the case, and if so, how they are going to justify it. Either case, can't wait for Jalen and Bill to talk about how good Lebron is for 25 minutes.
so i have second pick in a fantasy league but people hating because i refuse to take lebron because obviously they will sit him for like, the entire last week of regular schedule, which is fantasy playoffs

Depends on the franchise. If I already have a pretty good, close to contending team with one or two All-Stars or borderline All-Stars, then there's a lot more players I'd take before Davis. If I'm a bottom of the heap lottery team? I'd probably take Davis, even over other young bloods like Irving/Wall.

I was already gearing up my preemptive indignation for Simmons discrediting the Spurs, calling them too old while not mentioning the Heat's age once. The Bulls thing seems really weird. It's generally weird to leapfrog a team up like that because you are essentially saying a team whose ceiling you haven't seen in two years is going to beat 3 very good teams. Saying the Pacers will be able to beat the Heat is one thing; saying the Bulls will beat the Pacers, the Heat and the Spurs (or whoever beats them) is a much bigger stretch.
I defended (defended is a strong word)- commiserated with the Thunder when they traded Harden. The problem is that they didn't do anywhere near enough to replace him. They should have replaced their dollar with 5 quarters and they replaced it with 75 cents.

If you assume the east goes Bulls>Heat>Pacers regular season (aka) 2012, then the the Heat will have to face the Pacers + Bulls, which is like playing Alabama and LSU in consecutive weeks in 2012.
