I don't think anyone would call the Kansas or Duke teams bad supporting casts, though they certainly didn't play like it. As to the previous question of would I trade Davis for anyone: probably only Durant and even that's questionable. Davis is probably superior overall to Durant if you compare them side by side at 20-21, but Durant obviously did have a higher ceiling for scoring potential (and has quite thoroughly achieved it) as Davis is never going to be an all time great shooter, even if his midrange game has become above average between last year and this one. Defensive chops are important but team defense is probably more important that just having one good defensive big when it comes to the playoffs. Also in the playoffs Durant is a much scarier player than Davis seeing as even good defensive teams can't do jack about him -- Davis offense pretty much entirely comes from others, whether it be picks, dishes for under the basket shots, or even simple stuff like having the guard drive so he can sit 16 feet away and put up pretty jumpers. Most of the offensive moves he has are mediocre (run to the side, pull up from 14ish feet) or easy to guard by better teams (when he puts it on the floor from either post or his wacky spin moves). I'm gonna stop here because I feel like I could write a dissertation on Davis and this post is already gettin a bit big. Boiling it down, I think Durant's crazy offense is better/more important to playoff success than Davis' defensive potential on an individual level, which is where either has an advantage over the other. If you showed me both players in their second season then I'd laugh at you and take Davis everytime.

Who'd have thought signing Josh Smith and trading for Jennings would be a bad move? Not Joe D! That team is living proof that the most important ingredient to a successful basketballer is the grey matter between the ears. sneaky edit: Josh Smith is averaging 3.3 3PA per game at less than 25%. Tells you everything you need to know about Detroit.
