Ray Allen is Walter Ray Allen, Jr. Caron Butler is James Caron Butler No, Caron going by his first name would not make two James Butlers in the NBA. Jimmy Butler's first name is just Jimmy. Stephen Curry is Wardell Stephen Curry, Jr. Perhaps the best example of a junior, in this case the junior of a former NBA player, going by his middle name. I'd forgotten Dell Curry's full name was Wardell. DeAndre Jordan is Hyland DeAndre Jordan, Jr. Why not Hyland!? Why not "Hylander"!? Jamal Crawford is Aaron Jamal Crawford Of note: Aaron Brooks full name is Aaron Jamal Brooks. Glen Davis is Ronald Glen Davis Ronald "Big" Baby. Festus Ezeli is Ifeanyi Festus Ezeli-Ndulue Might just be because Ifeanyi could be tough for Americans to pronounce? Hollis Thompson is Keith Hollis Thompson II Jae Crowder is Corey Jae Crowder Interestingly, Jae Crowder's father is former NBA player Corey Crowder, whose full name is Jonathan Corey Crowder. So the Crowders have a different thing going on. Tony Parker is William Anthony Parker, Jr. Mike Scott is James Michael Scott I bet a lot of people are. Tyler Hansbrough is Andrew Tyler Hansbrough Khris Middleton is James Khristian Middleton! for those interested XD

It was against the Lakers, but if that is a preview of what Turner will be bringing, absolutely brilliant trade by Larry Bird.

He is and there's no doubting it. But I think there are quite a few furphies in this essay. Firstly, the players comparisons at the beginning are just ludicrous. How can the author in any way compare Love to guys like KAJ, Malone, Garnett? KAJ won a championship in his second NBA season. Kevin Love hasn't even made it to 40 wins yet in five and a half seasons (yet alone sniff a Playoff spot). I really don't think these parallels make sense in any shape or form. He rightly points to K Love's mediocre D. At best he's a net neutral but him and Pek have serious problems on that side of the floor. But as the author rightly says his huge offensive impact more than outweighs his defensive problems. Here's a legit question to ask: individually K Love is an offensive machine but it has never translated to anything resembling success for the T Wolves. Is it really enough to pin it all on his team mates? One cliche that is often thrown around in NBA commentary is "X player doesn't make his team mates better". This is a very arbitrary and subjective point but one that does actually have merit. An obvious case is Lebron on the Cavs. So if K Love's team mates are so bad, is it fair to direct some criticism at K Love for this? Does he make his team mates better? In his first five seasons he has never had an AST% above 12.9. That's very poor for a "star" player. A noted ball hog like Melo, for example, has never had a number this low even in his worst season. So does K Love need to share the ball more? Get his team involved? Well here's the outlier: this year his AST% is at 20.0. That's great for a PF like him who also does so much else offensively. Yet clearly this hasn't translated to winning--the Wolves may crack the 40 win mark for the first time in K Love's career but they likely will miss the Playoffs again. This gives merit to the 'his team sucks' narrative. So where's the truth? I think somewhere in the middle. K Love's a great individual but I'm not sure he's one of those guys who makes the guys around him significantly better. This is why I've maintained he'd be a better second banana. But there's little doubting the Wolves have sucked at building around K Love. Martin, Brewer/anything else are all very flawed players. It's easy to say 'team K Love up with other all stars and profit'. Well, duh. But I also think there are legit concerns to examine why K Love, for all his individual brilliance, has had no team success going on six years now.

I've mentioned before in this thread that I give Love a pass because the front office was so incompetent under Khan. Basically, only the last two and a half years are valid based on this assumption. That leaves us looking at the team essentially as constructed now, which is poorly done. They have two offense first bigs who provide zero rim protection and a PG whocan't shoot if his life depended on it. That's just not a winning formula.

That team is just built terribly around him. Even LeBron in Cleveland had a better "co star" (LOL) in Mo Williams. Not to mention how terrible the East was/still is vs how good the West is.

Its much easier to understand why the Twolves can still suck if you acknowledge they really only have one player in the NBA's top 40.

Not to mention I think Love needs more of an impact guard to go along with him rather than another good big man. Its not necessarily that Williams > Pekovic, but fit wise he was more helpful to LeBron than Pekovic is to Love. In a big man, Love needs a defensive stud of a center.

The t-wolves don't have that consistent second weapon. Sometimes it's Rubio, sometimes it's Corey Brewer, sometimes Pekovic was having a really good night, and sometimes the bench will pitch in. Love IS that team on the offensive end, and is the only reason why they are anywhere near the playoffs. I love Rubio as a utility player, but when it comes to the overall picture, he really needs to stop holding himself back.

He already contributes extremely well in other categories(4.5 rpg 8.5 apg 2.5 spg) but his ppg is awful at 9. The fact of the matter is that you can leave Rubio alone 90% of the time, because 1. he doesn't have a shot 2. he doesnt want to drive the ball, and when he does, he loves to dish it out for a perimeter shot.
