Like if they were to disband tomorrow don't think football would be any poorer without them. While roma has an insane history. Okay, I lied about not posting again. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/A.S._Roma#Honours http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tottenham_Hotspur_F.C.#Honours Roma certainly had more "prestige" in the 1990s and early 2000s when Tottenham had horrible ownership and Serie A was the best league in the world, but you have to look at the entire story. Anyway, none of this has anything to do with the discussion about the money being wasted. I'm just astonished that you consider Tottenham to be "considerably smaller" than Roma. Roma is the 5th-most supported club in Italy and Tottenham is the 5th most-supported club in England. For all their "prestige" in the CL era, Roma's trophy cabinet is empty when it comes to major European competitions. Also, I said "more desirable club" rather than "bigger club" in my original post specifically to avoid this argument. Players in 2014 don't care about Totti winning Serie A in 2001. They want stacks of money and a top league, which clearly makes Tottenham more desirable.

But you spoke about stature and rankings. Watch this picture then + Show Spoiler + ![]() Players that won the world cup wearing these jerseys. I imagine it must be pretty legendary signing for roma, meeting with some of these players that are now in managerial/publicity jobs under them. That's history mate. Meanwhile who you gonna meet on a tottenham walk around? Toad from down the road?

By the way, I wouldn't trade 3 major European trophies for a few WC winners scattered over the years. My idea of prestige is winning things. That graph is meaningless anyway, considering that for most of history, clubs consisted almost entirely of players from that country, and Italy has won four WCs to England's one.

Btw these so called major european trophies are from the grumpy, stunted, ugly little brother of the Champions league, the Uefa Cup. Which I'm pretty sure that multiple english people here have snubbed it, saying that their teams don't rly care about that trophy trying to explain their clubs' failures. So which is it, are you happy because tottenham has won some or you don't care everytime they fail in it? You know I met some fulham bros that rly thought that their club was about the size of milan because they went to that uefa final some years ago. Pretty much sums you lot up, init?

Levy is easily the toughest negotiator in football. im eagerly waiting for a negotiation between Levy and PSG. And what Tottenham did with the money ? Wasted it. They even finished worse than the last season. 26 million for Soldado and Lamela ? Like wtf. Knowing what Milan, Roma and Juve(and some other teams) can do with little to no money and what the english teams can't do with theirs is mind boggling sometimes. Milan is a great example of success considering they spent most of the season in the bottom half of the table. And they spent massive amounts during their recent spell of Serie A dominance. Juve are poor? Look at their financial statements. In 2012/13 they spent €149m on player wages (and on pace to eclipse that this season according to 2013/14 first half reports), with €60m in transfer fees (and ~€20m transfer income). They're one of Europe's biggest spenders. The Lamela transfer was a coup when it happened. He had 15 league goals in his final season at Roma and was linked with many big clubs, and even drew comparisons to Gareth Bale. And Soldado had 81 goals in his last 3 seasons with Valencia. No one called it a stupid transfer at the time.

Since you're such a history expert, you would know that the UEFA Cup used to be a prestigious competition, and the Cup Winners Cup was considered to be in between the UEFA Cup and the European Cup. It also used to be a pure knockout competition instead of the qualifier-playoff-group stage-knockout mess that is the Europa League these days. The UEFA Cup became meaningless when they started allowing non-champions into the Champions League (mid to late 90s), which meant that instead of second place teams entering the UEFA Cup, it was fifth and sixth place. Your Fulham comment is very childish and not worth dignifying with a response.

That's the finisher of the usual english knockout combo and it kinda grew on me. Depends on how you define "best." In terms of overall quality I think La Liga is the best league in the world, but the Premier League is the most desirable league for players because all the money in Spain goes to the big two and some La Liga clubs can't afford the electric in their stadium. Your generalizations are great though...they make you sound very grown-up.

No one called it a stupid transfer at the time. When did I say that Juve are poor ? I said that they can do great even with small amounts of money. Do you remember the season when they were promoted to Seria A ? Their biggest buys then were Tiago and Iaquinta. That same year they finished 3rd in Seria A. The next year they bought Amauri for 22M euro and finished 2nd in Italia and round of 16 in CL. Milan spent massive amounts ?? When ? During the last 10 years Berlusconi and Galliani are known for being cheap and not buying anything higher than 25M euro. Usually they buy one guy for 20+M euro and a bunch of free transfers and loans. What Milan won during that period is known to everyone.

But this is just for Brand value, it doesn't mean much. But it means more than the google trends comparison. http://brandirectory.com/league_tables/table/top-50-football-club-brands-2014 This is updated for 2014.
