A coach should never be so desperate As a coach you ask the player before the match if he feels ready to play. You field him based on that answer. Blame the player not the coach, but I'm not surprised he wanted to play a CL final even with an injury.

My impression was Khedira on the field allowed Atletico to be more dominant until a change was made. If that was Simeone's strategy it is fairly ingenious. On commentary: I harped on it earlier but I couldn't believe how bad Eric Wynalda and Gus Johnson were. It's the biggest club game in the world, hire some guys who know their shit. They kept comparing soccer to other sports; Hockey, Baseball, and American Football come to mind.

"I hope people can now appreciate parking the bus. All those people that claim its just throwing 10 men behind the ball better know the difference between throwing 10 men behind the ball and hoping for the best(Atletico) and actually killing the opponent(Chelsea)"

Do you think that having Diego Costa in the lineup forced RM to come out with Khedira instead of Isco in the starting lineup, allowing Atletico more of a respite in the early parts of the game? Khedira was played because he sits deep in the hole and breaks up attacks, Isco doesn't do that and Khedira was clearly poor. But think Khedira would have been there no matter what. He played a pretty ok game in the first half, dont forget that his role is mainly to support Modric and for someone who hasn´t played for 6 months he did his job.
